We're also probably responsible if the rest of the Europe doesn't get much rain in the following period, because it all kind of ended up here.
According to Weather Channel "A strong disturbance in the jet stream closed off into a swirling, stuck upper-level low near the Balkans, instead of sweeping through. The result is persistent, flooding rainfall." (http://www.weather.com/safety/floods/balkans-flooding-bosnia-serbia-croatia-belgrade-20140519).
Basically, three months worth of rain fell in just three days, or to put in numbers, between 140 and 200 liters per square meter (5.6 to 8 inches) per 24 hours (depending on the day).
At this moment over 1 million people in Bosnia alone (a quarter of the population) has been severely affected and don't even have access to drinking water. Tens of thousands of homes are destroyed in floods and landslides in the region. Evacuation of entire cities under water are still in progress since last Friday, as water levels reached second floors of buildings at the peak. Approximately 3/4 of Bosnia and 1/3 of Serbia territory is severely affected.
Casualties are at the moment measured in dozens, but it's feared to be worse as the governments have forbidden releasing more information in order to keep the morale high for thousands of volunteers helping the fight against new daily flood waves.
To make things even more complicated, some of the mine fields in Bosnia from the 90's war were washed away and moving along with the land slides.
One thing is only good in this entire situation: Even though there was war in Bosnia 20 years ago where all 3 countries that are affected with these floods were in, it feels now like nothing ever happened as volunteers, rescue equipment and any type of help are being sent from one country to another in order to help the most devastated areas. It's also nice to see Russian and US army working together.
On a more EVE related note, as large areas of Bosnia and Serbia are affected, as I said above, many of our fellow pod pilots are in the flooded areas. I'm trying to get in touch with the players I know and so far they are all evacuated and ok. I haven't managed to contact all local players for now, but I'll continue to do so. Electrical grid is the main problem for communication since flooded cities do not have electricity and a lot of people is still waiting to be rescued. Additionally, several major power plants are either flooded or in great danger to be flooded in Serbia.

In situations like this when danger is still present, it's best not to create panic and "every man for himself" mentality. It's been working so far. My signature got stolen (o.0) |

I know the reasoning, but, and I really don't want to have to say that about our neighbours, that is one of the most hairbrained excuses I've ever heard and it's usually used by dictatorships and other totalitarian governments to cover up their own screw ups.
Especially the volunteers need all thee information. They're not some kind of black ops soldiers that act on a need to know basis. Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Wow, sorry to hear about that OP. People's lives will be disrupted for quite a while, it sounds like. This has been a strange year for weather. "Were [sic] not your monkey and so what?"-á -The Sex Pistols (2006) |
