Maller vs other amar cruiser from a newbie point of view
Arbitrator - great ship, drone boat, but any decent setup needs at least average drone skills, medium nos, electronic warfare... so it needs skills
Auguror - can't say I know much about it. whop uses this ?
Omen - great ship, damagedealer, but needs skills or cpu will most often be insuficient, paperthin so you'd best do lots of damage and kill the enemy faster than he kills you. not a very good tanker
DuraMaller Can do enough damage to kill your enemy by outlsting in battle. Requires far less skills to make a decent fitting for it and with the new amarr bloodline character that can start the game with gunnery 5 and small energy 4 you need to train less and you use smalls on it.
Proposed setup:
High slots @ 4* medium pulse lasers - radio s for distance as it is a fairly slow ship and a set of multifrequency for when you get close @ 2* medium nosferatu - most fit a nos on their ship so if you fit only 1 nos you have a nother pulse so more damage but less cap and they could outtank you.
Medium slots @ 10mn AB - because it is a fairly slow ship and you need to get in range @ 20km warp disruptor - obvious @ webber - you need to keep the enemy in range
Low slots @ Med armor repairer - obvious / may use a small rep T2 @ Damage Control - uses cap? lol - simply gives a lot to a ships rezitances per total, and with this ship it's a shame not to use one @ Thermal hardner - need to think about damage types and what rezistances to get higher (best to know what you are goign against and if possible change the accordingly) @ Explozive hardner - || - @ Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane - overall rezistances , with the cruiser skill to a decent level you should have quite nice rezistances @ 1600mm plate - well over 5000 armor coupled with the nice rezs should make quite a tank
You will need Engineering 5 for a 1600mm plate but a 800mm plate is very good also. Another option is to loose one nosferatu for a med pulse and put the 1600mm plate. Depends on your taste.
With the minimum skills required to use this ship with this setup you won't be able to fly as effective the other amarr cruisers.
Regards, Rina

I know it's nothign new, but I didn't see a recent post for it. Plus the sticky up there does not have it, so for a new pilot it's hard to find it. Hope you see my point and some other time are able to be a little bit more constructive in your posts. :P

The DuraMaller setup is not, and was never meant for PvP. It was meant to handle missions effectively, which it does. With higher skills, it can handle level 3 missions as well, but that isn't easy for someone with their skillpoints on the lower end of the spectrum.
In any case, the Scrambler is a moot point, as the setup is not intended for PvP. Drop it, fit a cap recharger. I won't comment on the rest of the setup, I just felt like pointing that out.

I disagree, duramaller is also good for PvP.
Id cnage EAMN and DMG control fort 2x hardeners, or maybe just EAMN...

duramaller works well for PvP - firstly its excellent as a bait ship and secondly in small gang fights it can absorb damage for quite a while before going down - even with rubbish skills - which imo in small cruiser fights is very useful esp for people who maybe are just getting into PvP and would otherwise be much less effective in a poorly skilled and badly tanked cruiser attepting to do 'good dmg'.
Used this quite a bit (not me personally but in a gang) when we were in an empire war against mercs a while back - it managed to tank a couple of BSs and a HAC long enough for us to sink a bs and pin the other two down to finish them off. Very useful but prob not so great in a 1v1 against a higher sp player - but then if it was good at that it would be overpowered
Also not sure if this is right but the bait ship we were using had an entirely passive tank (two 1600mm plates with EANs - does it fit?) might be something to look into.

I've used it in PvP and it causes more than a small hicup for enemy cruiser gangs. I enjoyed it.

Any intelligent opponent would simply save you for last. You're not doing a lot of damage, and tanking doesn't harm them any. It's not meant for PvP.
For 1v1, that might be different, because the opponent has to defeat your tank before you defeat his. However, I'd like to see you catch anything in a plated Maller in time to kill his tank before he kills yours. Caracal, etc.

PvP dura maller - Which forced a vagabond to warp out in structure (no lie, he must have been a noob)
5x Medium Beams T2 (good for taking out ships up to 20km) AB WEB SCRAM Med Rep T2 - 1600mm - 3x Energized adaptive nano 1x damage controll (or WCS )
The more T2 the better - but extrememly good (and relativly cheap) with T1 armour mods. High resistances all round and enough damage/tank to get rid of 5 R.A.T in hed-gp

The original idea of DuraMaller is to use small gun and repper as well as LARGE prop device.
Any DuraMaller below 600m/s is a bad idea

excellent ship, too often overlooked.
definately one of my favourites after tech II cruisers. and can quite easily pack a punch with other fittings also. managed take down a Prophecy one on one in a fully kitted tech 1 maller a few weeks back. long fight but skills prevail

Yeah, I'm having a pretty hard time believing your setup. m8. Think you might be blowing smoke up our collective areses :P
5X Medium T2 Beams @ 275 grid each = 1375 e50 NOS = 175 pg Y-T8 10MN MWD = 150 pg 1600 Rolled Tungsten Plate = 500 pg
For a grand total of 2200 pg
My base available PG for Maller is 1125, and I don;t see any mention of RCU's, so basically I think you're full of poo.

Autoprophs are much better for PVP than a duramaller. More expensive, sure, but a far better tank, far better DPS, a higher resistance to nos, and you arn't all THAT much slower. Sig removed, lacks Eve-related content - Cortes |

Yes, they're better in the same way that getting run over by a car is better than getting run over by a truck.

I have a Duramaller. Went to 0.4 look for trouble... eventually I got a duel. It was Vengeance. I destroyed it so fast I didn't even have time to deactivate my guns after my oponent declared defeat. All of those setups are flawed in one area: wrong guns. More I won't say because I already posted my setup in another thread.

Try autocannons. You don't want uber damage anyway, and they save capacitor for repairing. You will last longer for sure. Besides, lasers suck, EM is the wrong type of damage for PvP. And maybe 2 reppers, small t2 + medium ?

So he brings up all completely valid points and you shrug them off because he has a "!" for a portrait. Stop being being an idiot please.
Anyhoo, I personally Don't like plated setups on a Maller. I think cap injected double med rep setups are the most viable. You open up a huge amount of grid and a 5th turret point as you don't need 2x nos to run the tank when you are cap injected. However this thread is about plated dura maller setups so I'll leave it at that.

Here is my buid, good at tanking and good at long-medium combat High 5 X 200mm 'scout' i accelerator cannon 1 X medium diminishing power system drain med 7.5 km jammer web y-s8 hydrocarbon i afterburners Low t2 arm rep 4 X energize plating (Kin,EM,Exp,Therm) 1 X 1600mm reinforced crystalline carbonide plates I
I put hybrids instead of lasers while laser has no use on PvP any more. Pretty good on tanking and good for long range damage, so I dont have to go near a target whit my slow ship, I use it on piracy and a frig wingman whit me who run close jamm web and survive till I get in range, only a Apoc couse a trouble till now

Here is my DuraMaller setup which is pretty close too the original post from over a year ago.
5x Focused Medium Pulses II 1x Med Nos
10Mn AB II Webber Medium Cap Booster w/800s
2x Small Armor Reparier II 1x Active Hardner 1x Active Hardner 1x Active/Passive Hardner 1x Passive/Energized Adaptive Nano
Depending on how you fit it your resistances will top off around 70% accross the board. When you swap out the harnders for rats or a mission then you can get them up to 76% in two areas like Kinetic or Thermal. Because this ship is kitted for short range you need to be under 10km where you can web and NOS your target. With the Focused Pulses and T2 crystals you will do decent damage and can tank for days.
This is not a PvP setup but can be used for missions and complexes. You could probably swap out a passive hardner for a RCU T2 and maybe add Medium Pulses T2 (don't quote me on this.. just an idea) and turn it into a mini Sacrilege. Good Luck

Heat sink boosts lasers, you need a gyrostab if you're using arty.

While correct advice, was it worth bumping a 5 month old thread for?
Anyway, this probably doesn't need a lock, since it IS linked in the sticky, so could really expect to be bumped every now and again.
On topic, the duramaller might look up a little in Kali with the increased importance of Nos and the HP boosts.
