Being war declared out of the blue, merc corps

Zebba	Posted - 2006.06.12 23:16:00 - [1] Hey there, I don't know if this is the normal way. You log on, see the mailbox blinking. It is Concord telling you that you'll get some action in just about 24h. Fine, nothing wrong with that. Well, there is something wrong with this. If I would start a war I would contact the guys I want to war declare before I do so. Maybe because I'm nice guy? Dunno, doesn't really matter. Now that mail is there and you check who war declared you. Voila, a 2 member 2 days old corp. Uhm, we are around 25 members. Weeee, a merc corp. So wtf? I don't care how many merc corps are just 2 days old and protect their clients name. But before you war declare somebody talk to them. Send the mail while you talk to them but geeeee ... don't war declare right away. And it would be so nice if you have actually something you want to achieve or at least tell me how to end the war. I'm looking forward to this war, though I think it will be boring as hell .... If we find out their contract came from mining carebear corp start running ... Is this daily business in EVE? Being war declared without a notice before?

Basically whats gonna happen is that from those 2 people(Whom I'm assuming arent all that old) will suddenly spring about another 10 vets. From there your industrial section will be isolated and targetted while any conbat ships you field will not find a single target. The corp of my main (posting with alt, deal with it) has been war decced 3 times since I joined them. First time was by a merc corp. We still haven't found out why (other than it was a contract), even though I'm on quite good terms with some of the mercs today. Second was an RP PvP corp that war decced us because of our corp name, but we had to do some research to find that out. Last time was a pirate corp that war decced us just because someone in our corp podded someone in their corp in Empire. Some research was needed here as well. Never did we get any kind of notice before the mail from CONCORD.

They stated though that somebody from our area hired them coz some of our member provoked them in some way. I'll get over it but still I would like to understand.

Ignoring that fact that these 2 sound like they want to kill some new players and easy targets, why should they give you more time as warning to prepare than they have to? If I'd like to fight you, I wouldnt make that any harder for me by giving you what, 48hours warning time. The 24hours you get IS already a pretty nice buffer for you as warning imho. And generally someone of your corp p*ssed them off, so I dont see a reason for a friendly "We gonna wardec you,thats ok with ya?" either. Anyway I doubt you'll have a problem fighting that off, but its valid behaviour.

Sadly i think it would be too hard to implement some sort of 'rules of engagement/warobjective' where the wardeclaring party has to send a 'reason' for the wardeclaration to concord at which concord (aka ccp) decides if the war is valid or not. This to stop random wardecs(which impo smells a lot like legitimate griefing) Anways if it can't be changed for the better then don't change it at all.

Or is it because, he did'nt come here crying about haveing someone declare war on him? OP what ever you do dont make it mutural, they declare hostile toward your corp, let them pay. Second thing Park all the techII ships and gear. Get back into the tech I frigates. Do not stack anything in the hold, make multiple stacks, that way there is less loot for the mercs to scavenge from. Some of these guys are seeing a payday, well dont give one to them. Dont fall for their tricks, you will probably see pilots come into a system with cruisers and BS and fly out in a shuttle. And they will be in a NPC corp... This is as bad as it can get, but don't bet on it.

It could be abything..you could have called them a nublet in a trade channel 2 years ago, or podded thier alt hauler by accident. It doesnt matter to a merc because mer+ce+nar+y ( P ) Pronunciation Key (mvrs-nr) adj. Motivated solely by a desire for monetary or material gain. Hired for service in a foreign army. now to the matter of forewarning... If your were in a pub/bar/club/disco/jazz night and some guy was hitting on your girlfriend, would you walk up to him and say 'excuse me old chap, but im going to biff you on the nose now, hold still' no. i didnt think so. the fac that you didnt know and are in a huff about it, means the idea has worked. we dont tell our targets over tea and coffee because we dont want them to be ready at all. Our job is not to meet you with equal fleets and duke it out. The goal is to cause as much damage (be it isk or morale) to your corp/alliance as possible while also fulfilling any specific goals the Customer may have *See You In Space Cowboy*
