Two days ago I got jumped at a gate by a gang of 5+ ships. I didn't lag whatsoever and could watch my armor going down steadily, while enjoying superb framerates.
However, as the last of my structure disappeared, my framerate suddenly dropped to about 0.01 FPS (yes, I was staring at the same frame for over a minute). Obviously I had already started spamming the warp-to button like crazy. I mysteriously made it out (they must not have been interested in my pod), but that's beside the issue. It's not usually this bad, but whenever I get blown up I consistently lag out when "entering" my pod. And it's not just me, many people seem to suffer from this. I used to think "wtf are these people waiting for" while I was locking their pods, until I found out (I had to wait a long time for my first podding ).
Whether this is due to client-lag or fluctuations in lunar orbit doesn't really matter, what is obvious is that there is something very very wrong with the way the switch to the pod is implemented.

ctrl+alt+shift+e and +t removes all effects and turret effects, eliminates a lot of lag and spam the warp to button at 1/2 hull, should go through with the warp when you go into your pod

Edited by: TheMantisCH on 17/06/2006 10:52:03 Turn off your eve-mail blink, the killmail from your ship can cause a bit of lag. Saying that I've still lost a pod with all effects and eve mail blink turned off, but it does seem to reduce the lag time a bit.

Same thing happens really when you change ships in a station, nothing you can do about it really

yeah - it's more client-side graphic lag than anything else ... ___________________

i hate the way it grinds and zooms and shows the "entering pod" thing... i don't mind the fighting when i'm about to die, and i don't mind losing the stuff, or even being in the pod. I just hate the moment of death because of the pod entry

It is a bit poor tbh.
Shame the warp out trick doesn't work anymore too.

Around half of the times when I lost my pod was due to this graphic delay. My solution? Stabs, stabs and more stabs so I never end up in a pod again _______________________________________________

The problem with spamming the warp-to button is that you end up with a screen full of the "info" windows of the planet or whatever you warped to, which prevents you to move on quickly after the warp (having to click them all away first). I really think this needs a "real" fix.

No particular lag here, but the one thing that does annoy the crap out of me is session change timer which prevents me from opening the popup menu using right click to warp away when being podded. It's a 2-3 seconds delay you get where you can't open the right click menu, much like the delay you get when jumping.
It goes like this:
[9:00:00] Ship Out of Control [9:00:01] (trying to right click, nothing] [9:00:02] (trying to right click, nothing] [9:00:03] (trying to right click, menu opens) [9:00:04] (selecting Warp at 15 on object) [9:00:05] (finally warping)
Still haven't figured out how I managed to save my clone with a full slave set twice now.

You get 30 seconds of untouchability when undocking. You get 30 seconds when you jump through a gate to review your situation.
You get 0 when your ship goes pop - but you get the same lag there as you do when undocking or jumping. So why don't you get a short time, say 10 or 15 seconds, for your client to 'sync-up' after the ship-death lag?

10-15 seconds of pod invulneraility will make it extremely hard to pod people. You'll need a frig or dictor just to get the pod locked down in time, maybe.

tbh - why should it be a problem?
when you undock you don't know the situation and are probably in ship that can't instawarp (and you have a graphicschange also - remember the blackscreen when leaving station?)
when you jump you get some lag - yeah ... but most of the time not that bad - and if it's really bad ... you'll have a chance to e-warp. when your screen has loaded you have a delay before you uncloak to check out the situation.
when you get podded - you allready know the situation AND you sit in a ship that has allmost instawarp ability. so it's no need for some delay. at least in the overview the jumpout works (even it doesn't show up in the first moment on the client - on the serverside it works .. and THAT matters )
spamming the "warp to" button saved so far everytime my pod. got only podded once when i forgot to do my "safe the pod!1! routine" ___________________

If I'm ever planning to be in a fight anywhere I set a destination AWAY from the area I'm warping to. So then when I pop I click A and sit back and enjoy the ride. I've only ever been podded once.

I've lost most of my pods this way, sadly enough. Podding 35 was no different.

Ram Drive, we all need one :P
get 4x 1gig sticks and convert 2 of them to a drive letter on your computer then copy eve over and start her up. that'd annihilate alot of the loading problems, next stop your videocards memory buffer :o

Originally by: turnschuh eject and you should be able to warp away.
In most cases that would make no sense, because: 1) You give your enemy a free ship 2) You get no insurance since your ship isn't destroyed - or even if they still destroy it (dunno why they would though) for some reason, I'm quite sure you still get nothing 3) If I recall correctly, there's slight lag when ejecting as well (only done it once, to board another abandoned ship, so not sure about this)
Anyway, I plan on using the autopilot trick myself (haven't had the need ever since I figured that'd be the best way), trying to find something to warp to and actually managing to make it warp there just isn't nearly certain enough.

I eject also, but thats because i'd rather loose 100milion on the ship than 600 million in implants.

Well if you time it right you're ship will most likely pop as attackers are definetly not going to be ready to stop there guns, especially if there are more then 1.
You do get insurance if your ship blows up and you're not in it as long as it is your ship (as long as you were the last one to pilot it). - _____

Argh, I hate the pod lag, with some button spamming and luck I managed to avoid getting podded for quite a long time, but every time I either get :
The Stargate to warp with me (o_0) My map open My pod warps as soon as fifty celestial object descriptors pop up
I agree it is a problem, I always spam warp or have an ap destination set as I'm about to lose my ship.
