I am in the process of purchasing and transfering a character. I need a new account to do this with. When I check on the New Account page I see my options are either to enter a timecode or to pay 20 Euros to purchase a new account key. However, as an existing player I can send myself a Buddy code, obtain the key that way and use that to set up an account for free.
So why does the "purchase" option still exist? The point is to get people to pay their monthly subscriptions, not buy accounts, so is this merely a legacy item from the start of the game or are CCP still desperate for ISK from any source possible?

When you have the expereience that CCP does marketing MMOGs, makign budgets and estimating costs then you can kibitz. Until then either suck it up and pay or dont but stop complaining about it.

Give it up. That was a sensible question and not designed to spark a flame war. If you can't be constructive stay out of the thread please. |

I am almost certain, that when you activate that free trial and go to make it a permanent account, you are going to have to pay that 20 euros just the same. Most pay-to-play games I know of work this way. Each account is a seperate entity, and has to purchase the initial code/key/whatever to activate the account. I am not saying this is the best way to do things, just that it is common practice for mmo game companys.

Two reasons:
1) if I am not mistaken, the terms of the buddy keys and trials stipulate that existing account holders are not elegable to use buddy/trial accoutns.
2) as mentioned, you still have to pay the activation fee (or enter a CD Key) after your 14 day trial.

having recently activated a new account, you do have to pay $20 to activate a trial. I was going to anyway, but i decided two free weeks was worth it, so i waited until the trial ended to activate.

Compared to other games I played, the extra $5 to start a new account is pretty cheap. That is especially true cosnidering the first 2 weeks are free.
What you seem to want is a free 2 weeks plus a $5 discount, is it not?
