I need a laugh, thank god I found this post.
Yukfoo, you made a mistake.
Solution 1.
Join the corp/alliance who own the Outpost and collect your BS.
Solution 2.
Create a new escrow and sell the BS. BS in 0.0 space are in demand and some folks will pay over the odds.
It is not a scam or exploite, just a simple mistake on your part. Live and learn.
Good Luck
PS
As for offering sexual favors to Hippo and others its not a good idea, you just don't know where they been.

Edited by: Inertia Foryu on 19/06/2006 23:30:22 I almost made a similar mistake. When I checked to see where the ship + modules were located (a player owned station), I just didn't buy it.
Which brings me to ask that player owned stations also be identified by thier location. I ended up going on eve search forums to try and determine what sys it actually resides in.
Anyway, be smart. Fly safe. /I go now. |

This situation is much like going to a cafe wanting a salad. Instead you order french fries, then complain about it... And to make it more simular, the waiter would have to come out with a big sign saying...
You are about to order french fries! Are you sure that you want to order French fries?
The funny thing is, I'm not at all surprised, this happens all the time. I once worked in a resterant, and yes, people are that dumb... Like the people who are alergic to shell-fish and order the Surf and Turf. Or the constant stream of people who don't like onions, then order Liver and Onions.

Stories like these make me wonder if whoever designed the "escrow" system in EVE actually knows what an escrow service in real life is. AS it stands now, it's basically just a second market window with a little added potential for scamming shenanigans. There is no impartial third party escrow agent involved.
Here, CCP; you might find this article helpful.

qft... the fact that you can escrow an item, then shoot the person who comes to pick it up, *and the playerbase blames the buyer* really reinforces the point.
But then, anyone who's buying a BS should know that, so it really comes down to semantics.

Good article. It would be better if they called it the "gray market" or something. Escrow implies some sort of saftey.

I went to go pick it up, and it was at a player owned station. Long story short, I didn't have access to the station because it is restricted. The guild says "Tough Sheeeot". After it was reported to the CCP, they said "Tough Sheeeot, you should be more careful!"
Are you flippin kiddin me? Cmon CCP, this is a total bug, and yet they will do NOTHING about it. So, I will never EVER use escrow again. I know that there are bugs in any game, but I just spent 130mil isk for NOTHING! And they will not raise a hand to help out!
They cannot even police their own game. I'm VERY disappointed!
So, I've decided I'm going to go blow that station sky high to get some "satisfaction".
I'm not a whiner, just sending out a warning to any and all. Buyer beware. Seller? Well.. PODS taste like chicken!
So just how were you planning to get a BS out from 0.0 with no standings?

Bug or not, it is a lame way to make money. Agents warn you when you need to go to low sec, the market warns you when you pay too much ... so whay not a warning when you buy something in low sec? If you check the little box "don't show me this again" ... well, then the user is at fault.
Inconsistent user interface behavior is a bug, the developer chooising to accept this or not is something else. Should CPP give this guy back his money? No. One should check these things before you buy anything because we all know Eve has inconsistent UI behaviors, bugs. Anyone with 130 mil isk to toss on a BS should have been playing long enough to know better.

I bought a palace from some guy in the Internet, it cost me all my savings.
Now it turns out there's a war in that country, and I can't go live in my palace.
Are you flippin kiddin me? Cmon UN, this is a total bug, and yet they will do NOTHING about it. So, I will never EVER use eBay again. I know that there are problems in any country, but I just spent all my savings for NOTHING! And they will not raise a hand to help out!

A lame way to make money? You think this guy was selling it as a scam? He was trying to sell it to allies who have docking rights, so it benefits him and his allies. I severely doubt he expected a non-friendly to buy it.
As for the warning, doesn't the "You are buying an escrow which contains ____ for ____. It expires in ____ and is located in _____" where the location is the name of a station which is clearly player owned let you in on the secret?

Although this was a mistake on your part, I wont flame you like others did -- there are a lot of jerks on this forum apparently. I would be interested to know what corp it was so I dont engage in any business with them.

Edited by: Plutoinum on 20/06/2006 11:16:47 CCP is right. It's your job to check, if you can get it from there or not or if you have a friend who can bring it.
Btw. once I saw a cheap domination warp disruptor on escrow and claimed it. It was about 40-50 mil below usual price. Immediately after I'had bought it, I noticed that it was on a station of our enemy. Anyway, I tried to resell it on escrow for more, but didn't work.
Many weeks later I helped to take a station and after I docked there, I saw that item in my hangar. I had it already forgotten. Was somehow funny.

The OP author states that he tried to speak with the seller, but was shut out, he also states he spoke with the CEO and was laughed at. Pretty strong evidence of a scam, at best, rude. If you have evidence other than what is in this thread, you can't blame me for not knowing it. :) I have no idea who these people are, it's all anonymous to me. If someone else in this thread says it was me or him or frank or sally-sue, well good. I don't read everything post in a thread either.

Apparently, for this guy (the OP author), no. Every escrow purchase does what you describe. Just like every market order has a basic, unwarned dialog box, and yet another dialog box if there is a warning. Every mission page shows the basic mission whyto and howfor verbage, but special note is called out on low sec. The UI is not consistent in its behavior.

The UI used to be consistent in it's behaviour. There were no low sec warnings in missions, or warnings when you were about to buy something extremely overpriced.
Eve has been 'dumbed down' a lot already, let's not make it worse. If you don't pay attention to what you're doing, something bad might just happen.
