That's right, CCP Games is proud to announce pre-orders for a collectible card game based off of EVE Online. At the onset, you can order themed 'megapacks' based on the Amarr/Matari or Caldari/Gallente conflicts. In the near future, other purchase options will be available, including booster packs and boxes.
There are a number of questions about the CCG, most by players who are unfamiliar with CCGs in general. Jin Entres and Matthias DuBastyra have both posted excellent information regarding CCGs in general, pricing and other highlights.
I've played around with the CCG since the FanFest with beta 1 and 2 decks. The times I have shown the game to others, they have found it to be fast paced, interesting and most importantly, easy to play.
This has been another labor of love, Petur and many others from CCP have spent long hours making sure the CCG follows in the footsteps of its online sibling. From the artwork to the cutthroat playability, we hope the CCG keeps true to the spirit of EVE.

Edited by: Derran on 19/06/2006 21:55:14 I'm a long time CCG player (12 years or so) and while I have to say the art previews I have seen are among the best I have ever seen in a CCG, I'm trying to hold back huge doubts about how well the game will do. So many CCGs have come and gone the way of the dodo. I think I'd like to be able to see some sample turns of how the game flows before I'd actually buy it.

I'll get em if only to give CCP more cash and to have some sweet looking collectors items.

Spoken like a true collector. I have a couple beta 1 cards left that I am probably going to frame in some fashion or another. Even in the early days of the CCG, the card design was excellent, and it has nicely matured with time.
Even if I didn't work for CCP, I would still purchase the game. It's easy, fun and looks great.

ZOMG Kieron quoted me!
Also, the two "main decks" for Caldari/Gallente and Amarr/Minnies, I'm assuming you can mix the decks together and use the "prebuilt" sets between the two main sets?

As a poor student who can't afford to buy whole boxes at a time, I was wondering if CCP would be distributing the game wholesale to gaming shops like every other CCG does?
I'd like to buy a starter deck to check it out and as the store doesn't seem to mention being able to buy them seperately (that I can see), and anyway shipping costs would get silly for single decks and a couple of booster packs, I was hoping that I could pursuade my local gaming store to stock them
(btw I'm having utter hell posting on the forums this evening - it keeps bringing me back to a blank reply screen with a random alt instead of actually posting when I click post...)

Yes, there are cards that are playable by all races, by only 1 race and a number of combinations inbetween. If you like, you could build up a Matari deck and play against a Caldari or Gallente deck, or any other combination, including against a player playing the same race.

I'm taking bets on the first person to open a thread saying that they are going to host a CCG tournament... I'm betting on Blackhole Bob myself
Then again, people coming from miles around to play a card game? Can't see it happening to be honest, but then, I think card's are only useful for making castles on long train journeys... I smell a new E.F.F. attraction though. ___________

I did a brief search, and it appears CCP is the producer, though I'm curious who the printer/distributors would be?
As a former gamestore owner I have to say, seeing a MMO company move into the CCG market is further evidence of the internet games business meshing with the old rpg/wargame/ccg community. Of course, its a dog eat dog world out there, and CCG's flop more often than not.
A mini wargame and a pen-n-paper rpg should be next. I would like little pewter mini's of the ships for my mini collection.
Oh, gawd, I'm such a nerd...

I am sure I will pick some up.
As for people traveling miles to play card games together, it happens all the time. If you check out Magic: The Gathering, you'll see that a large number of tournaments around the world have formed around this one game. It is the same with Miniature Gaming.

Can we have a couple of screenshots of some cards, or the manual ?
I have got no clue what they look like or what to expect.

Damn I really wanna order both sets, I'm an ex-ccg junkie (so yes damn you for doing this CCP) and I'd love to get these, but I can't seem to get past the order page because when I try and get something in the cart it's telling me I have to enable cookies, now I've tried everything even going as far as downloading Firefox but it still saying that :(

That would be something I'd buy into, if they weren't so damn expensive ___________

Edited by: Malachi Nefzen on 20/06/2006 00:50:37 would it be possible to see a demo fo the card game in action(like a sample game or the rule book, video etc..), as it sounds interseting, but I am worried will it be worth buying or be as good as a more established game like magic?
possible something a kin to this

Hehe, just dont let Games Workshop make them, and they'll be 50% cheaper.
A space mini game would sell though. Little spaceships would be a great collectors item for the online players, and ships woould be easy to paint by almost anyone. Maybe even 25mm character figures based on the artwork, for a pnp rpg.
Why stop there, toys, action figures, a Friday night tv show to run after Stargate and Dr. Who...

Im thinking more of a EVE online thong. Now that would be a hot seller.
Anyways, A battlefleet gothicish game would be the Bee's Knees.

It would be nice to get some more detailed information about the decks and what the game entails before forking over the $96. Don't get me wrong, I am definitely interested in the game and will gladly hand over the cash for such a wonderful item. It would just be nice to make a more informed decision.

$100 for a card game? Am I the only one who thinks this is a bit too expensive?
I know nothing about CCG junk, perhaps the price is inline with others - someone explain for me please.

Well, a M:tG booster pack box, which is almost certainly the biggest game out there, which contains 540 cards, goes for a suggested retail price of $120, last I checked. If we scale the #cards vs the price, $100 should get us 450 cards. at 471 cards, this isn't a bad deal at all, in my opinion. Especially for an EVE card game. Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the oth |
