Some of you folks may have been expecting this one for quite a while, but I'll admit, this sort of came out of the blue for me!
The game looks STUNNING, and plays beautifully too!!
I haven't been this impressed with an FPS game in a LONG time, especially one I haven't been following the progess of!
Day One purchase for me folks!

Finished the demo 10mins ago. Well it got some nice ideas, it s looking good but mmm not enough aliens -from my pov- yet. Hope the "gravity" concept will be used more in the full game.
The thing I loved the most was the "leecher" gun: try to charge it with the "white" energy, Sub Zero style .
Haven't tried multi yet, but heard some good from it.

Whats the min specs, I'm almost certain I can't run it yet.
Ah well I'll have to wait till this summer when I have the money to buy my Dual Core, Radio 1600XT monster .
How is the gravity system, i think it looks abit nightmareish and enough to give you motion sickness. Funny thing too this game has almost been as long in development as Duke Nukem Forever 0.o __

Played it earlier, was pretty nice, but the gravity thingy was weird, but a great laugh.
And when i reached the part where the big "window" thing opens up, and shows you the entire complex, i was like holy ****!!11
Cant wait for the full version!
... *Mumbles something about duke nukem *

The game runs very very well even with the high preset settings, and Im on a laptop with a 64mb video chipset. The game looks and runs just like Doom 3 (it even runs smoother actually) but the game itself is more focused on simple puzzles using the physics engine, "spirit walking" and insane gravity shifts. Maybe the final game will detoriate into a horror shooter later on, but the demo surely is freaking impressive. I also like the setting alot. You're basically running around in a complex built around a star, like a dyson sphere. It is sort of an organic mesh around the star, and the complex feels alot like Doom 3 with it's techy metallic surfaces and high walks. Since it is a living place, it is not as dark as Doom 3.
But whatever you do: DON'T FORGET TO TRY THE MULTIPLAYER COMPONENT! It rocks! running around upside down smashing people below with a wrench is highly satisfying. The weapons overall are perfect for multiplayer (even though some might argue that they're "spray and pray", which I don't agree with). My favorite part about multiplayer is definately the multidimensioned fighting. You have to fight people that are running on walls and ceiling AND your own floor. It is wickedly cool to run around upside down on the roof and shoot at someone on the floor, and then you jump down on the floor yourself to confuse him and whack him in the face with the wrench. I like melee weapons in games where guns are primary choices...
Griefing is to ruin a friendly game, which Eve is not. |

I love this game. The 1st time I got the "OMG COOL" feeling since when I first picked up the gravity gun in HL2. I love the fact of that the main char (and unlike Gordon in HL2 and that Merc in Doom3 Tommy can actually talk) is Native American and the whole spirit walk ability is very innovative, very cool. How the perspective keeps changing is also very innovative as it makes full use of 3D space.
The weapons are pretty cool in their bio-mech design. The spaceship does feel really...alien, as oppose to looking like something humans could build. I don't know about those diarreha spewing....things though, that's kinda gross.
The game obviously shows hints of Doom3 and Quake4 but all in all pretty original and innovative.
I make cool banners for ISK.

Tried it last night. Simply put - Day One purchase for me. I haven't been this excited for a FPS in a long time. I gave the multiplayer a whirl and it is definitely exciting - I do think certain weapons dominate over others to an extent; the mines are next to useless, at least in the multiprey I played.

Highly recommended, day one purchase for me too, if I can find a store that sells PC games! (Someone help me out here, I live in the heart of freakin' suburbia and with EB and GS no longer stocking PC games, I have nowhere to turn but... Walmart ><).
Oh, and I can't stop giggling every time I see "multiprey." I love puns... hehehe.

@ poster above:
At the end of the demo is a link to Triton, a web-based delivery service along the lines of Steam or Stardock Central. You can register there, preorder Prey and it will be preloaded a week before the official release. When release hits, you'll be able to play it. Easier than searching for it all over the area.

I was genuinly scared at some points. Although, i was playing it in the dark with the sound turned up.. When it scares, it does it in an entirely different way than Doom 3.
I was just amazed at the portal and gravity technology... First time i've "WOW!"'ed out loud in a long time, especially in the scene on the asteroid-thingy... Astonishing.

I really enjoyed it, altough im very dissapointed in the graphics. Looks almost identical to quake 4.
Best part of the demo is when you shrink and run around on that miniature model rock that you were looking at just moments before. ______________

Prey was in development since 1996, shortly after Duke3D - it got put in the freezer after the technology wasn't really playable at that time.
I'd still want to know what happened to the original engine...
Also, not many people might have noticed this, but Duke3D was capable of portals aswell if you know how to make them :)
