Alright Folks! after being woefully disappointed in the Ferox in terms of PvP as a railboat. Perfectly capable as a ratter, but on a whole everyone seems to laugh at the idea of a railrox in PvP.
So, on that note. What are some ships that are mainly rail users, that have some good setups for PvP?

Harpy and Enyo atleast work with rails. Especially when solo they're much more convinient than blasters since you can kill those long range tackling ceptors.
Some people use taranis for long range with rails too. I don't know how viable it is though.

yeah, I like the Moa, fun ship, but for some reason it doesn't seem to cut it as the gunboat I'm looking for.

Harpy and Eagle are it for Caldari gunboats.
How about Gallente? Or train missiles... either way you're prolly better off training for Harpy and Eagle. :p
...Thorax looks good, 5 turrets and 5% hybrid damage bonus per level.

Rax and brutix don't have the grid for proper rail setups. Ferox is what you need to make work. What sort of setups have you tried?

Rax has plenty of grid. I use 200mm rails/am and a dual web setup. It works WONDERS i tell you.

Moa is proably the best you can get with cruisers. The mix of missle and rail mounts kinda suck if your looking for pure railgun action. The Ferox is also a good boat for railguns due to it's optimal range bonus. However it also mixes rails and missles. So really there is no 'good' boat for pure railguns. Ferox would offer you the most railgun action below battleship however.

Personally, I think rails aren't such a hot idea for PvP off sniping BSs. Trying to snipe in cruisers and AFs just loses you your tracking/speed/size advantage and puts you at BSs optimal with a pretty pathetic damage output.
Best choices are probably the rail-ranis (outside of web range 4tw) and the harpy.

Ohhh noes , u are greatly mistaken there !! Brutix can make one hell of a sniper with a full rack of 200 T2 u will make a decent dmg and range on ur targets med or small and massive dmg on bs , I was enaging one of those cpl of days ago and it took all the shields on my domi with ease the dude ofc had spike at 80 km . Blaster brutix with ions or even neutrons after the pg reduction makes and evil close quarter ship.
Tbh i prefer the moa sicne i have a very nice setup for it using dual 150 which usualy makes ppl go sicne they think i am usign blasters due to the massive dmg i do but in theory they are as close to blasters as u cna imagine , decent trackign and dmg close to ions me thinks which aint bad sicne also u get a huge raneg bonus as in compariosn to blasters , with a full wrack of dual 150 u can one volly any t1 frig or 2 prob 3 volly a t2 one . Celestis - The amount of sensor/tracking equipment you can fit on that ship.

The corm actuly makes a very good rail sniper if you get it set up nice and you have decent gunnery skills. But isnt usefull for more than just a fun toy to play with every now and again.
With a little work you can concider taking it to small scale fleet engagements as a tackler-tackler, just make sure you stay out of the range of most enemys or ya insta poped.

Is this a joke? Brutix can do very well as a 200mm rail platform in both pve and pvp. Same goes for the rax.

Does the Vulture improve much on the railgun platform afforded by the Ferox hull?

That's strange because I tried a Dual 150mm setup on my Eagle and found the damage to be noticably lower than 200mm guns. The tracking was 'better' but still not able to track anything smallish inside 10km and required a webber. The 200mm tracked/hit webbed targets just as easily as the Dual 150mm guns, so I failed to see a point in using the Dual 150mm.

The damage still sucks, but it can reach better even though there's really no need to. I suggest using blasters on the Vulture, though. You can get around 17 km optimal with Heavy Neutrons and Null, which rocks because they track very well at that range and the damage is decent.
For some 250mm II rail figures with Ferox and Brutix, look here. ---

Taranis, Harpy, Eagle, Megathron.
Those are really the only ships with useful PVP rail setups.
Cormorant, Moa, and Ferox all suck in PVP no matter what. -------- Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk [04:21:15] Mebrithiel Ju'wien > Nik's bio 4tw btw [07:38:53] Graelyn > Nikolai for Dev 108!

I said Moa not eagle , coz i wouldnt put dual 150 on eagle , that would be sacrificign the range . Dual 150 on moa serve cpl of purposes , better rof , better tracking , i can easily one volly a t1 frig plus my 2 assaults and it will die even b4 my 3 t2 droens reach it as for inties 2 or 3 vollies tops , as for cruisers and hacs i do very good dmg aginst them .
