I don't see the problem with cargo > jetcan except for those single items that are larger (which as others said add a no-drop flag). Jettisoning cargo bigger than a jetcan only results in additonal cans, at least that happends if I jettison some 30k+m3 of veldspar - they pop up in two cans.
As for ships, since they appear in space free-for-all no matter stacked or not this is no problem either.

Why a fixed sized jetcan? How groovy is it that a pod can jettison a bookmark and make a 27k big jetcan. Lazy programming :)
Also why assemble ships when they are being jettisoned, they should be unassembled and still in the can.

Took about 15-20 minutes to take one out on test server with a HAC. Not that long really.

I've always assumed that the reason for this is a balancing thing.
In other words, a single freighter would make such an Uber mining op (etc) hauler that it would be, frankly, too useful. It'd unbalance the whole emphasis on industrials, and t2 haulers. And i'd imagine theyre not aloud slots for the same reason- theyre so humongous, they'd be just too useful if they could have MWDs, or tractor beams, or EWAR for defence. No such thing as a super ship, remember

Yes, but the original poster was talking about High Sec ganks, and 15 minutes in a HAC to kill a freighter would certainly be more difficult with Concord breathing down your neck :D

i think its impossible to high sec gank a freighter. you can constantly bump it but you cant really be of any threat as no one ship has the firepower to pop a freighter before concord arrives.

Why you dont just allow freighters to load and unload at corporate hangar arrays? Will it imbalance the game and if so, how?

Suicide piracy is far to common as it is.
If the devs want a wild wild west scenario that makes the current suicide gate ganking activity look tame by comparison, they'll put in code that allows freighters to drop loot cans.
You'll have gank fleets with tank ships and shield transfer/remote repper setups perfected for the task, roaming throughout empire drooling at the thought of blowing up freighters loaded with goodies.
And while the twitchy-finger crowd may love this thought(and there's little doubt they do or this topic wouldn't keep coming up), you can be assured that several things will happen:
1. Freighters will be reduced to giant trash-mins-mobiles - as few will be stupid enough to load them up as done now, at least not without a significant escort 2. The inter-regional economy that has devolved on Jita will come to a screeching halt with the pendulum of the economic structure swinging strongly towards decentralization, often I think into numerous single instances of disconnected economies. 3. Everything will cost significantly more because the cost of transport will skyrocket due to inefficiency, losses and escort costs.
I'm sure there are many who don't care other than to shoot as many things as possible as often as possible. But this is how I see it and it doesn't look pretty.

I guess that's exactly what they want. -- Lil Miner Newbie Skills Roadmap | Visual Building Guide (Both work in game too!) |
