I believe a dev posted awhile back saying they don't drop cans because freighters aren't allowed to eject cans, and so when they die, that code doesn't let a can get left.
Altho it's probably for the best. If someone were to pop a freighter filled with crap, it'd probably CTD anyone in the areas.

Since a jetcan is only 27,5k m3.. many items? Like repackaged battleships and such :)

They should remove general freight cans and replace them with something similar to escrow/courrier plastic wrap this would make sorting alot easier as the plastic wrap would be the size of its contents and could hold ships. Just release the plastic wrap bpo(make its bulid reqs like 200trit)

If freighters could drop contents outside of stations, rich alliances with more ISK than man-hours would shoot down their own freighters just to make huge deliveries to non-station locations.
Outpost construction would take considerably less labor if freighters dropped cans.
I'd laugh my ass off when all the contents get destroyed

I asked someone this a while back. Response I got was one day, a long time ago in a far away place called Jita, a small corp got upset with a GM decision. What it was and why they were so annoyed is lost in the mists of time. However, it upset them enough that they decided to invest a billion ISK in getting revenge.
They bought a freighter.
They filled it with around 7,500 small secure containers.
They blew it up in front of Station 3 in Jita.
Seven and a half thousand items appeared at once on the screens of several hundred people.
So much for freighter cans. And the Jita node.

Ever killed an NPC spawn with 100 million trit? Obviously that isn't the problem
Ever kill an npc spawn which contained a single item larger than a jet-can?
Silly boy.

What single item is larger than a jetcan?
The only "item" I know that is larger is a ship, and ships get ejected and launched into space when a ship carrying them is blown up.
Last time I checked... a jet can held 27,500 m3 A "general freight container" = 120,000 m3
When you kill a NPC convoy, in 0.0, they drop for 50 or 100 millions trit Several cans, fullfilled. thats it. but problem is elswhere, its about those item that are bigger than 27k m3.

wow a dev said somthing on the forums. why dont you tell us if your going to fix the problem and if your afraid of 100000shuttles being dropped just Have shuttles auto be destroyed and not more then 25ships be jetted into space and Frieghtor Drop auto Jet Cans with 300K m3. Because you guys told us at the meeting in Arizona That you where going to make it to where they dropped cans. Actually you said you guys didnt even know they didnt drop cans then that youd fix it. I remember because it excited me because ive killed about 8 Freighters and been waiting for some l33t Loot.

It is a strong hunch of mine that CCP has Freighter not drop cans to avoid them getting butchered in 0.5+
Suicide piracy is far to common as it is.

correct. I've carried well in excess of 10,000,000,000 isk value in my hold on a couple of occations (although in my case it was in 0.0.....)

when the code is processing the loot into the ejected can, why doesnt it just delete the items too big to fit in a jetcan?

I don't normally post here but, 4000 shuttles won't be in a can, when a hauler blows up holding a ship it goes into system fully assembled. 500million trit wouldn't.

A normal secure can ends in space as a secure can, not inside a jetcan, if it is assembled.
Could those items causing problems be moved into the secure can group somehow with added functionallity? Or maybe treated like a ship with autoassembling? --*=*=*--

Doh, hahahaha. I have seen similiar responses in other games, in anarchy online, the meta physisists gathered, and launched all 3 pets each had, and started wandering around in a pack, overloading zones. They got what they wanted, and is now debuffers (and have a pet called the rhiwen="the whiner")

ok. i'll be honest for once.
2 problems i have found so far are these.
general freighter containers appear in space. this is something we do not want.
outpost platforms get jetted into space, but they try to go into a jetcan, this isn't possible so the platform dissapears and causes a few server errors.
there are a few other issues that are a problem also

Freight containers cannot be anchored, so they are going to pop after 2 hours and some change. They're not locked and the contents are free to take. Can you put other containers or even ships into them? Popping your own freighter just to get a couple odf instable and unlocked cans into space doesn't sound useful, especially since containers tend to have a 50% chance to pop along with the ship and their contents. It would make a pretty expensive and chance based way to resupply a carrier, mothership or titan. I might be missing some some info here.
If the outpost plattform had a chance of 1 to go poof ... Depends on how the random popping of items is done. If the chance is an item attribute that should not be a problem. If the chance is a global one some other way has to be found. --*=*=*--

doesnt the outpost platform use the same mechanics as POS'es and have a launch for . . option ?
freighters cant jettison but they cant TAKE either. does this also have some reason ?

Iteron V
my corp mate has one with 31km3 space atm.
so imo this ISNT a decent reason to prevent taking from space. and yes my chunk would certainly help with mining ops but thats why i shelled out on such a huge hauller.
sec cans are anchored so you couldnt pick those up either,
as to theft It would be just as anoying to have a transport ship warp in and steal your can or even BS's that have been see to steal cans. Freighter stealing your can . . scram him shoot watch his squirm as his shields go with no ability to rep himself.

isnt there a way to make those 2 items then to always be destroyed if in a freighter then to circumvent the problem?, like a no drop flag somewhere.
