whats the concept behind those numbers we see in eve-patcher window ?? some times its 25k and during weekends its around 35k or 40k.
Is it number of unique eve accounts playing or number of unique game accounts ?
The diff is , i may have 2 game account under an EVE account.
So what does that number signify ?
Some forums say eve has 350k subscribers monthly. why are we not seeing that many numbers here ? are there any other ever servers that we can login ?? |

It's the number of accounts online. You don't see higher numbers because timezones exist. When it's your 5 in the afternoon, it might be some Russian's 4 in the morning. |

Number of active accounts that are online at the time you log in.
It has no relationship to how many players are online, just accounts. |

So if i login with my 2 accounts, still it will be counted as 1 ?? right ? |

No, it'll be 2
A lot of players have alts so if it says 35k then that's 35k active accounts online which could be say (at a wild guess) 26k players.

What the other people said.
There are somewhere in the region of 500k subs to EVE ... and last I heard, there was something like 2.1 accounts per individual person. If that still holds, then we've got about 250k individuals who play EVE, split across (roughly) four major timezones (Europe, USA, Asia, Australia), which are then subdivided into several more hour-wide zones.
For example, I play UK time (GMT +1), and can get on a couple hours a night ... if I've got corpmates in mainland Europe (GMT +2), I have a decent chance of missing them during the week ... not to mention the US guys, who are 5 hours behind me (I see them on weekends though). One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |

There are probably a large amount of casual players who only log in twice a week. That + what the other guys are saying with the time zone.

I don't know where they get that figure from.
It suggests there's 350k active accounts which I find hard to believe, like you do.
Although I guess it's possible as it's just one worldwide community and people will be logging in and out regularly over the course of the day. As well as those that just log on to change skills every few days or so.

Pretty much the "one server cluster for the entire world" thing.
The PCU count is only a count of "how many people are online right now". (Currently 16k people ... in 10 minutes, that'll be 0 because of DT). One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |

Of course if there would be more actual people playing, PCU would get higher regardless of time zones. You don't always need to log in all your 97 alts after all :) I am not my skills but... http://eveboard.com/pilot/Schmata_Bastanold |

Nandhi wrote:Christina Project wrote:Is that really so hard to figure out? am confused, a game with 350k subscribers but yet i see only 35k in numbers.... Ah I think I get it. It took me a bit to realize too.
Think about it ... these subscribers are spread out across the world to different timezones. A few big groups share working hours, but there are several more big groups not sharing them.
Like ... USA, EU, AUT timezones ... these people get home from work and log on. They don't share the same working hours, obviously, as they live in different parts of the world.
That's, for example, why there are times you see more haulers, every day, around the same time-frame.
Now from these groups, there obviously are people who don't work at all, or have different times when they work, or work from home and play.
What you see during your playtime, are ... ... people from your own timezone ... ... and people from other timezones.
If you now count around 20k subscriptions logged in during any given hour, you have to realize that these 20k subscriptions in one hour aren't necessarily the same 20k subscriptions in the next hour.
So ... what you're seeing, is that there's always a part of the whole subscriber base logged in. Sometimes it's a bigger part, sometimes it's a smaller part. I guess EVE is going pretty strong :)

I understood the overlapping timezones, but not sure abt the numbers. I have heard people using 10 + ALts for mining and industry. There are people and screenshots in this forum where a person using more than 50+ Alts on ice belts.
Just wanted to confirm before involving myself in a long term relationship with Eve. its a beautiful game, but i do not want to be alone in this universe.
I have read forum posts where they say eve subscribers are dropping. I just got worried.
The answers are reassuring :)
SO i will continue towards my Goal :) |

They aren't bad per se, it's just that they are large, unwieldy, and highly sought after to kill. |

Subs and activity tend to drop off a bit in the summer. It's been like that every year since I came here, and it probably always will be. The fact that there have been no major nullsec wars for a while now, means that a lot of people probably have their super/titan alts unsubbed right now too.

There is very little of the so called doomsday. EVE has been shrinking and you will see people push an agenda using it but few see EVE is truly ever being dead, in the dirt.
I project it will one day shrink to 150K active subs and stagnate there but short of an NGE like event. Why it will shrink is open to all kinds of speculation but that's where it becomes about agenda, even trying to figure out that. R.I.P. Vile Rat |
