Who on earth thought it would be a good idea to force new players to spend their first 30 days in the rookie channel?
I DONT NEED THE DAMN CHANNEL, I DONT WANT IT, WHY DOES IT HAVE TO REOPEN EVERY SINGLE TIME I LOG IN FOR 30 ******* DAYS?
ARRRGHHHH - = - = - = -

Blink = Off
Then shove it off to one side of your screen or something.

Well im more annoyed by the fact that it keeps coming back whenever i log in, i dont understand why it forces people to join for 30 days? All they have to do is explain people how to rejoin it manually... - = - = - = -

Have you read some of the questions that people ask in the Rookie help channel? They are things that are explained in the tutorial. And you expect people to remember how to join a channel?
Sorry mate, just because you may not need the channel, a lot of other people do. You can always just close it each time you log in, or turn the blink off and never give it focus.

I remember it as being a constant source of comedy questions when i was in it...
Kinda looking forward to it again, if i get an ALT.

Why don't they make an option to turn it off in prefs.ini ?

Y'know, I think I'd rather they work on fixing bugs, or adding content to the game.

Perhaps, then, they should have done either of those instead of working on a way for the rookie help channel to force itself upon you every time you log in for a month...
When I moved this character to a separate account, it happened again. Never mind that I hadn't been a rookie for many months. It's a needless annoyance. - - - - - "Never offend people with style when you can offend them with substance." - Sam Brown

It annoyed me as well, 50% of the time my question would slide off the page in 3 seconds from all the people asking dumb questions. i found the corp channel much better.
Just making an option to turn it off would help

you can only enter the channel for the 1st 30 days of your accounts life, after that it will never open again

Still an option to turn off the autojoin in those 30 days would be nice.

30 days from when the account was created or the first 30 days of your subscription?
Anyway, i still dont see how forcing people to join the channel is usefull for anything other then harassing them... - = - = - = -

Well, I don't see how trying to force other people who benefit from such arrangement to end up without any help would be useful except to make them quit.
Just ignore the damn channel!

I don't find rookie channel useful either. Everytime I post a question in there, I never get any response back because they are too many people typing at the same time. It's so hard to keep on track of who's talking to me.

The worst thing about Rookie Help is not the spam, which is horrendous. The worst thing about Rookie Help is not the horrible nature of the advice, which since everyone else but the ISD people are rookies, is frequently so wrong that it embarrasses the human soul. The worst thing about Rookie Help is not that 3/4s of the people in the channel are a different race from you and give advice that isn't very practical to you (So, I should get an Omen as my first cruiser? Should I sell or keep this Rifter I've been using since I started?).
The worst part about Rookie Help is *THE LAG*. I've never before seen a chat channel that gave me a 25% FPS reduction. Rookie Help did that, somehow. There was a tangible and effortlessly visible reduction in the time it took to perform all game operations after Rookie Help was closed.
The day that I logged in and Rookie Help did not automatically pop up forcing me to close it yet again was a very very happy day.

You should ask the people in the help channel on how to read properly and then try and read my post again.
Just because i want to be able to close that ... doesnt mean nobody else wont be able to open it... DUH... - = - = - = -

1. Split the rookie channel into 4 or 5 seperate channels.
2. ALLOW VETERANS TO JOIN TO HELP! Ever since this change was made Rookie Help has been basically useless.
3. Stop the rookie-help-auto-open.

Hmmm maybe I wasn't paying attention last night but I started an alt last night and didn't see the rookie channel. I should also say I'm a returning after being gone for over a year. Trips "Plug in, sit down, freak out!" |

The rookie help channel is there for people who genuinely do need help in game, and are having difficulty with playing.
If you don't want to see the channel, the easiest thing to do is turn off blink and minimise it
Also, when posting please do not use profanity, and caps lock.
Thanks.

Yeah, I too found the rookie channel to be completely worthless. Message spam flew constantly in it, so half the time if you even had a real question it went unanswered. On the flip side I didn't ask a lot of dumb questions either.

We try to have STAR in there as much as we can, and when we're there we'll answer any questions we can, and get the spam stopped.
As for the 30 days, there are people that really need it to automatically join that long, the ones that don't need it know how to close it :)

One wonders exactly how "helpful" the answers in the Rookie channel can truly be, if this is the sort of flip answer that veterans get when they ask for a little assistance. - - - - - "Never offend people with style when you can offend them with substance." - Sam Brown
