Well CCP have stated specific focus on careers or focus areas and more specific specilisation are a focus with mroe than 10 years worth of skills and rising now. Some level 5 stuff will be dropped to 4 and some skills trained up no doubt as time goes on but it can only become a bigger issue with time.

Originally by: Moghydin As was mentioned just above, non-combat staff is starting to be a really big problem in game. Industry is all but closed for the newcomers. Prices for T2 BPOs are insane and cut off everyone outside of the "club". Some T2 BPOs aren't for sale at all and are held by monsterous organizations which are closed to everyone except of the "chosen few". It all leads to the situation where Eve has less depth for the new ppl.
Interesting statistics would be to compare the average staying time in Eve like 2 years ago and now. I suspect that this time is actually getting shorter, as with developing their chars, new ppl understand that some aapects of the game are out of their reach forever.
Im new, am I naive to think that if I stick with this game for a couple of years I cannot be part of a "chosen few"? Mebe there will be things in this game I can never achieve but I think this game is setup so that anyone who dedicates themself car eventually reach the highest goals.
This is my golden age of eve and I will look back at these times fondly.

Yes, unfortunately, you're quite naive at this If you stick for a couple of years, they'll be in game for 5 years, with probably trillions of ISK in their wallets. High-end industrial staff will probably cost hundreds of billions. And for top PvP and political entities you'll still be a n00b. Sorry, but it's true.

Many people like to complain that they started too late and they will never catch up. And while this is bascily true, it's also wrong.
I started 8 months ago. And I'm PVPing with the best of them. I fly AF's Dictors and intys and I am on the kill mails right next to a player thats been in for 3 years. And we just got done killing a guy that had been in for 3 years. And while someone that has been in for longer has more good stuff, that doesn't mean you can't beat them, or join them.
My AF is as good as anyones AF. My inty is as good as anyones inty. My Raven is not as good as anyones raven, but I'll get there.
In eve, you need to pick a direction and focus on it. Be the best YOU can be and you'll catch up in less than a year (in that direction at least). My alt focused on mining/manufacturing. While my main focuses on combat. Between the two, I can mine with the best, and fight with the best. I can't hang with a capital fleet, but here is a secret. Not many people actually can.
The devs have stated in the past that the average eve players plays for about 6 months. Which is about the time you start getting into T2 ships and gear if you focused a bit. But that means that the number of people that have actually been in for years and years is limited.
As for BPO's, that particular problem is being fixed in the next patch. Including but not limited to a recipe based bpo system for making "named" gear. And reverse engineering to get yourself into the T2 module market.
As of right now, you can't get into the t2 BPO's. You could, but it's random chance to win one and it's trillions of isk to buy one. (and set up shop to use it) So as a new player, this particular door is closed. For now. When Kali hits, that won't be the case anymore.
The thing many people seem to not notice is that a new player, with a full set of implants and learning skills trains WAY faster than a new player did 2-3 years ago. (even just learning skills from the start make a huge differance) A buddy of mine started the same week I did. And he did learning skills first. So while I was doing gunnery and blasting rats, he was hauling crap around. But right now, 8 months later, he has over a million more skill points than I do.
In short, you can catch up in every way that matters. But you still might not be able to join the "chosen few". Who cares? Those guys stoped "playing" eve a long time ago. Sad for them. ___________________________________________ The deeper you stick it in your vein, the deeper the thoughts there's no more pain. ___________________________________________ |

I don't really care whether it's a golden age, or whether we're on the decline. I'm having fun.

Originally by: phi norm Death means little anymoreààthatÆs where the issue lies.
Wallets are huge, jump clones are plentiful, insurance pays out too muchà..your ability to actually hurt your opponent is gradually being reduced.
The rules that protect the innocent (new players in empire) should not protect the prospectors or pirates
Risk v reward thatÆs what itÆs all about isnÆt it???? I read so a couple of years ago and it felt like it. Where is the risk now?
Insurance payouts limited by security status of area and actions.
Get concorded û no payout
0.0no payout (sliding scale for other security regions)
War dec on someone û lose your insurance rights (your going to war, who in there right mind would insure your ships) û people declared upon keep insurance for a week.
Jump clones û fine keep the ability to move across the galaxy, never cut the time, oh yes implants move with you when you jump.
Remove 10/10 complexes û now being farmed for isk. Or some how move there location and spawn times (just doesnÆt make sense that these guys wake up every day at the same time and take a pasting, IÆd have moved by now).
Sound harsh? It is out there in the wild west of the galaxyààor at least it use to be.
You know Phi I was fully expecting your post to be bad as you were obviously not happy when you wrote it, but...
After I read it I realised I agree with everything you said except one thing. The no insurance payout after a week for a corp war dec'd upon. Too many small/young corps getting war dec'd for no reason and they have little to no chance against their opponent as is. So why burn them even more.
Beyond that one thing I am all for the suggestions you made.
No insurance if Concorded. Great idea.
Sliding payout by system sec.
Declare war and lose insurance. Least versus war opponents.
Think Jump clones were so people with implants would go to 0.0 so that one prolly won't happen.
Remove 10/10? Nah, but move them about is definitely a good idea.

afaik the 7 month average time quoted at one point is out of date and the average length of time someone plays has actually increased to 12 months so ur assumption is as usual completely unfounded.

That is interesting. Do you have a link or the source of that information?

dont have a link - just remember reading it either in a dev blog or a dev reply to another forum post.
