I'm not new to this game nor mission running, but I've heard people say they got faction loot from missions, and that in high-sec even. I've been doing lvl 3's for quite a while now, I'm not ready to do lvl 4's yet... skillwise, but as far as my experience goes, I've never ever had a faction item from any mission at all.
This all makes me wonder, are the people just talking rubbish or CAN you get faction loot from missions? If this is true, I'd pretty much want to know what I do wrong.

theres a minute chance of a faction loot drop in the gone beserk mission, from a faction cruiser

I've been running L3 & L4s in >0.4 space for a while now and haven't gotten any faction loot. So if it does drop, it's pretty rare.

1 Mission(Going Beserk) has a small possibility of spawning a ship that has a chance of dropping faction items.

there are a few missions, where you can get faction loot, allthought the chance is very rare to get an officer spawn...

doing lvl 4s in 0.3 since a year, an in those missions i already got faction loot...

I can confirm a Dread Guristas BS spawn and faction loot drop in a LVL 4 "Blockade" in secure space.
But... I have done hundreds of missions and this has happened only once.

I can also confirm, I've been running lvl3 and lvl4 missions in a 0.4 system for about 2 months. I've had a ton of named items drop of course, its been very profitable. I have had 1 faction item drop in all that time. Domination Shield Boost Amplifier, goes for about 30mil on escrow. I still haven't sold it, been meaning to try it out once before I do. :)

Missions are buggered, I had this happen to me 4 times in a row. 4 blockades and all 4 times a 6 mill SS rat spawned, all 4 times got faction loot at about 200 mill worth total. This will probably mean I will never get a faction rat in a mission as long as i live.

Again, I can confirm that this does happen on the blockade mission, albeit rarely. I know, because I've stolen the faction stuff from mission runners before. 
(No, I wasn't in a mwding nano'd frig, I was in a real, combat worthy ship.)

all i know is that you can get an officer in the " gone berserk " mision or "the mordu headhunters " mision
and you can also c if you wil get an officer @ the last wave
just check how many npc,s you get in the first wave
the normal 1 sais you have to kill 5 npc,s ( with gone berserk)
but with the officer spawn in the last wave there are only 4 in the first wave you have to kill
so thats how you can c if you get an officer spawn in the last wave
normal= 5 in first wave officer= 4 in first wave
i gess it will be somthing simular with the mordu headhunters i personaly had that 1 time but dident drop any faction loot

with that last comment i can confirm 5 in first wave = officer spawn 90% of the time 4 in first spawn no uber one

Many of you are confusing Officers (e.g. Estamel, Hakim) with Commanders (Dread Guristas, True Sanshas). They're two different classes of NPC. There are only a very small number of Officers per pirate faction (I think it might be four per faction), and I've never seen an officer outside of a 0.0 belt spawn.
Officers drop truly shiny stuff that is often the best-in-game; Commanders drop quite shiny stuff that is often better than T2.
If anyone sees an Officer (not just a commander with a name, like Zor, but a ranking pirate faction officer) in a deadspace mission, please take a screenshot.
FYI they should exist in the command staff listing of the pirate faction in question e.g. Guristas officers are all listed here.

I just noticed that Estamel is a L3 Q-2 agent.
Sure drops nice loot for a mission runner!
There are 4 officers for each pirate faction. They have massive bounties, but the bounties are insignificant compared to the value of the loot they drop. An officer can easily drop in excess of 1 billion of loot.
Needless to say they are very rare, they appear in asteroid belts, in the same way that normal rats, T2 rats (Dire Guristas, Sansha's Loyal etc), Commanders (Dark Blood, Shadow Serpentis, etc), and haulers appear.
They all fly battleships, and have an escort.
They're significantly tougher than normal rats, but not overwhelmingly. If you can handle the rats you can handle the officers, pretty much. Although the only officer I've found, Kaikka, orbits at 50Km with a very nice tank. My Apocalypse struggled a bit with that, and officers cannot be webbed. So I had to get a hauler in to ram Kaikka until I caught up and got him in optimal.

On one of the first lvl 2 missions I did I got a low grade snake delta from a shadow serp frig, done plenty of missions since but not found anything else.

Just had a Serpentis Overseer spawn last night during WC. 3.75mil rat, dropped a Snake Gamma, a Shadow Serpentis Energized Magnetic Membrane (or something like that), Shadow Serp Crystal Tag, and 1000 rounds of faction large hybrid ammo (don't remember which).

Odd but I keep finding named ship captains of frigate and above all the way to BS. Right now there is a Arch Angel intercepter named Garin Kezmonu in the rats I am fighting in my angle extrav mission.
And all of them, like this one, are never listed in the corp roster on the sight that I can find.
NONE of them ever drop good loot.
Anyway, just thought it was odd.

I dont remember exact name of the bs. It was Shadow serpentis for sure, drops only faction ammo. So if there is chance of faction spawn then you have a chance of faction loot.

I got my first FACTION loot at the weekend - a DG Thermal Shield Amp. Gonna save it for my 0.0 ferox when I have gotten BC and Shield Compensations skills up to L5.
It was from the Bonus Stage of Guristas Extravaganza. First time, did it with 0 warp outs to boot (yes I know it is somewhat easier than AE).
So to clarify:
If I want FACTION loot, I must do the various L4 missions that have such loot. Can I get them anywhere else (like low sec DED's) etc?
If I want OFFICER loot, I must go 0.0 ratting. I was told once that officer rats appear more just after downtime. Any truth in this?

I've got a couple faction items, one from a SL mission a DB Exp membrain, and a Dread Guristas Small SB from the Guristas extra bonus. I've done the bonus a number of times and only ever got one faction item. =\

A while back I decided to give mission running for Quafe a try, since I heard they give out free Quafe to missioners and I like the taste, canÆt get enough of the stuff actually. So I polished up my diplomatic skills a little and managed to get some work from a level 1 agent there. On one of the few missions I did for them I got a commander frig with an insane bounty for a level 1, around 100k or so I think. It dropped 1000 Shadow Tungsten Charge S.
I soon thereafter returned to furthering the goals of the Empire, and although both Quafe Co and my level 1 agent there retain some respect for me, my repeated slaughtering of their Gallentean kin has forced them to deny me any further work. That one commander in a level 1 mission has been the only faction drop IÆve gotten in a mission.

Faction loot drops pretty much anywhere outside of empire when you're ratting (they're rare thou). So far I havn't been all that lucky but I've nabbed a couple of sansha laser crystals, some blood raider hardeners and a few other goodies like that.
Of course I've lost multiple cruisers to various forms of podpilot pirates, but I think that's what you have to expect when venturing outside safe territory.
So faction loot isn't that hard to find.
Its the Deadspace (corpum, gistii etc) and Officer loot that's really difficult to nab. Deadspace loot would be alot easier to get your hands on if every deadspace complex wasn't farmed to death by either alliances in 0.0 or ISK farmers in high sec.

The Gurristas Extravaganza mission is the mission i got the most commander loot from. The bonuslvl has a pretty decent chance of dropping a DG item (well, at least for me as i got 6 DG items of the last 10 GE missions i did)

The L3 storyline mission, A Force to be Reckoned With, the 'boss' frigate has dropped faction stuff both times I've had the mission, about 70mil worth each time.

On WC the 3.75 mil rat will spawn if you kill all in the first level and 2nd level then leave. Wait 4 hours, it should totally have respawned and the Commander or whatever should be there. He usually drops some nice faction loot.

It is not always a commander though, and if you are stuck with the Angel versions of WC, the Dominations drop 99% crap just like their 0.0 counterparts

few weeks ago i got Dark Blood Warp Disruptor in one of important missions (i think it was Bloodsworn), other than that i remember getting some shadow serpentis stuff in a lvl3 mission (dont remember the name, quite a while ago) and some charges. i dont run a lot of missions tho

I have found 2 faction items on the bonus stage of AE lvl 4 and what realy grates me .... my mate that was farming a lvl 4 mission(forgot name) for its omber had a suprise spawn and picked up a low grade alpha and low grade delta crystal implant

I myself have gotten my first faction loot drop in a mission a few days ago. It was the lvl 3 storyline "A force to be reckoned with", I got a Dark Blood Adaptive Nano Plating from the Bloodsworn guy (Uleen Bloodsworn?). Other then that I haven't really seen any faction items in all the missions I've done ever since I've started this thread.

ok first of i have been running level 4's for a couple of months now in a raven and i can say i have never looted faction loot on my own.
i did run a gurista extrav the other day solo and although it took me 5 hours (only got 5mil sp) i did the loot room and was annoyed to get a couple of hardners and no faction loot, low and behold the following day i did help a corp mate with the same mission, only took 2 hours and what did he get.......a nice large gurista smart bomb.
i have had miners kill 12k frigates and get 140mil implants aswell, guess it really does just depend on the luck of the draw, some have it some dont.
p.s i know it sound like i should stick to level 3's till skills higher but i do love destroying b/ships

i got a faction frig on the second part of the rogue slavers lv3,
It spawned while i was mining the omber, it dropped rubbish loot tho, small sansha crystal and a tag

Its more the concept of randomness that seems buggy at times

I do the Dread Guristas one with no real problems(1 potential warp out). The Angels one however is too risky. I have also gotten a DG 425mm Railgun and a DG heavy missile launcher from it.

best ive ever got was a dread invul field from the bonus room of guristas extrav but i have done that bonus room well over 30 times so its not common, i think 1 in every 2-3 trys u get a dread item but generally its not a very good dread item. Got nothing decent of the overseer in wc but he wasnt the 3.75m one. That dread invul went fro 350m though so it was a very nice bonus.
