Change playstyle a lot . I tend to change it every 3 to 6 months these days.

Just like you, I guess. Playing in short bursts of high activity, then almost nothing for weeks or months.
My industry alt and my PI-alts are excempt, since I don't have to log in that often to update stuff, it's a lot less pressure on me. |

stop playing for a while do something else, come back and see everything got more dumbed down, rinse and repeat |

8 hours of work a day also works like a charm. After that even lowsec PVE feels relaxing, and PVP is a good way to get my mind off the job. Fire up a F2P MMO from Steam. That usually makes me want to play Eve again pretty quickly  |

I've burned out a couple times and left for a couple months. This time though I think I'm fully cooked. The nerf bat has hit me so many times I feel like any direction I go from here will just be $#!t on in the future.
I'll keep an eye on things, but my pile of 'space stuff' is now just going to rot in the hangar. If CCP offers a couple free days in a year to come back and see the changes I'll take them up and see if it is worth my money. Having subbed a full year this last time was a painful mistake.

I took a year off. I played some other MMOs with my wife, took some time to do a little volunteering on the SWGEmu project, goofed off with my PS4. Then I back-to-back subbed into ESO and then Wildstar. That did it for me, I'm back.

Sometimes, I put a long skill queue and go play some LoL.
Then I get reminded why EVE retains people with brains and reflexes, capable of coordination, and I come back.
Sometimes I paint...depends.

One of the best features of eve is the skill que. Just because you don't log on much doesn't mean your characters is stuck in limbo. Play only weekends? or everyday. Makes little difference to the skill que.
Sometime i play a lot of eve. Other times i just don't feel like. Its no bigge and the sub fees are tiny anyway.

I've tried my hardest to play with only 1 account.. but then after a week or so you start thinking "if only I could grab that from jita while I'm doing blah" or "Man it would be nice to have a scout" or "With just 1 more domi I cold clear these sites like no prob." And you realize that having 1 acct makes EVE really hard to do. Especially if you are low on SP. If you are training towards something that takes a month, and you realize you need salvage, or scanning, or processing, or hauling, or whatever.. you can de-rail your training queue for weeks filling it with little things you think you need.. or make an alt.
But he is right, If you try to satisfy a desire for instant gratification then you will reach a point when two is not enough and you burn out as you realise, that it has ceased to be fun, and more like work.
The answer is to completely derail your skill plan, give up your idea of being the best *insert profession here* and do something completely different.
But you are also right, most of the professions do benefit from an alt. but working with friends helps too.

I find something new to do in the game. Most people I know who complain about burn out are people who only do a very few things in the game.

When I get a "Burnout" in any game, I usually take a break, look at what I want to do next, plan it out and then carry out the thing I have set up.
Atm, I am only training in EVE, and I am currently training for the Nemesis, I found that it suits most of my needs in a ship, the only thing missing is drones, but hopefully CCP will make another version of the Nemesis hull with Anti Frigate Torpedoes and Drones =)
I know it is a long shot, but I am hoping =) |
