I used to ghost train. How else are you going to get Marauders V?
These days I just unsub and play something else. Usually within 3-6 months I'm back for another year or two.

My first 'burn out' was not really a burn out. I usually start feeling stagnate, unmotivated to play, usually I still log in and chat, and 9 tiems out of 10 something will make me go 'oh hell no!' or 'hey I wan tto do that'
I took two breaks in my 10 years here, one was for a month after I got married, the second was ~a year after the birth of my son.
I'm in a lul atm, not feeling motivated to play, and part of that is the wh i'm in and lack of corp mates... I really need to recruit soon lol 10 years of eve... yea i'm an addict |

I don't. I share your experience although my episodes of frenzied fleetfighting are between 6 to 12 months. I once "officially" quit EVE. Never stopped training either and kept the skillque going like you did. So I was lured back into null by old EVE-buddies of mine. I'll probably "burnout" again and take a break. It happens. I'll be back anyway. Addicted from day 1 you know? |

Same.
I did keep sub for skills for a long time but I have since learned the real value of high skill characters and now if I am not playing I don't sub. There have been some very bad games that were able to benefit from this because I export my EVE expense 1:1 to other games and it's a pretty solid chunk of money when looking at most other games. |

Makes me wonder if there might be a correlation to how frequently you experience burnout vs how many accounts you sub.
Like maybe constantly having to manage the assets and skill queues of multiple toons makes everything seem extra tedious. Maybe just having 1 account keeps it from feeling like a second job?

I've tried my hardest to play with only 1 account.. but then after a week or so you start thinking "if only I could grab that from jita while I'm doing blah" or "Man it would be nice to have a scout" or "With just 1 more domi I cold clear these sites like no prob." And you realize that having 1 acct makes EVE really hard to do. Especially if you are low on SP. If you are training towards something that takes a month, and you realize you need salvage, or scanning, or processing, or hauling, or whatever.. you can de-rail your training queue for weeks filling it with little things you think you need.. or make an alt. |

I try to mix up my game play, and not do too much of one thing for a very long period of time.
Piracy is my main play style, but there is still other avenues that branch off of that. Sometimes I feel like stalking and hunting down people in low-sec, other times I feel like throwing a mobile depot in my Pilgrim and hanging out in a wormhole chain for a while to see how docile the residents are after a few mining/hauler ganks, and I'll even do some exploration in null for quick cash if I want to forgo the heart racing PVP jitters for a little. And then there is always the ultra passive moods where I will even do some market PVP on my industrial alt. That handful of things on top of every one of my characters being skilled for PI means I also have some small planet management sprinkled in there too, but that's mostly all passive.
It keeps me busy as long as I realize that the second one of the activities I enjoy starts to feel like a chore, I need to switch it up.
Inevitably though, I will take breaks from the game for long periods of time only logging into change my skill queue. This only usually happens if I find other games I want to play through, or real life gets busy. I always come back to EVE to play in spurts of months at a time, then take breaks for months at a time.

I'll keep an eye on things, but my pile of 'space stuff' is now just going to rot in the hangar. If CCP offers a couple free days in a year to come back and see the changes I'll take them up and see if it is worth my money. Having subbed a full year this last time was a painful mistake.

When I get a "Burnout" in any game, I usually take a break, look at what I want to do next, plan it out and then carry out the thing I have set up. Atm, I am only training in EVE, and I am currently training for the Nemesis, I found that it suits most of my needs in a ship, the only thing missing is drones, but hopefully CCP will make another version of the Nemesis hull with Anti Frigate Torpedoes and Drones =) I know it is a long shot, but I am hoping =) |

I trap little children, preferably between the ages of three and five, in a deep stairwell, then pelt them with stale hot dog buns while a pair of dogs I have with me bark incessantly. Then, I tell them I'll let them go if they promise not to tell their moms. They always do, the little darlings. Having done this half a dozen times in as many days, I can then get back to vicariously residing in a barren, and friendless scape, looking for the easy fruit, and trying not to be one myself. I think if you burn out you just need to control yourself a bit. Get a timer and set a target of max 3 hrs a day and stop when it rings, no matter how and what. Maybe you are the nice guy who can't say no when people ask you to stay... say no and stop. That's simple. EVE is just a game. Alt corps, and enjoying more than one aspect of the game.
I'm staving off an Eve burnout right now after a pretty hectic past 6 months. So I just return to an alt corp in a secluded wormhole somewhere and just relax, play the 'social' game, do some RP and some writing and occasionally gank some people in w-space. Eventually I'll start to get bored again and will go looking for more intense action and legit pvp with a proper corp, play hard for a while, then rinse-repeat.
Worst comes to worst I'd just take a little break from Eve all together and go play something else for a while. Done that a few times over the past four years.

I play other games till they become boring and then return to EVE. However the latest game I've found 8 months ago (Internet spaceships with avatars) refuse to become boring so I'm thinking to let my EVE account to expire (finally)... |

Let the subs lapse for a while and go out into the light of the burning daystar

I am playing steadily week after week, with clear goals I set to myself.
I Had a 6 months burnout a few years ago, but came back and have been steadily playing eve since, with no intent to stop... I have learned to play eve as it is, and not as I wanted it to be, and found many interesting things to do within my favorite play style, after having tried different things.
I also chose recently to participate to the forums to share my views of things, even if I probably am amongst the minority in term of playing style (I.e. not paying rent or taxes to anyone, and never in high sec other than for the occasional run to Jita)
I have two goals, one weekly, and another on the longer term (of which I shall not speak here ) My weekly goal is to make 1b per week.
I also always keep the game running and when I hear a gate or WH activation from where I am, I drop what I am doing if I can and jump in my ship ( aka computer seat) forsome action.
I look forward to see more about what is on the other side of the Rubicon no signs of burnout in view for me....

If you burn out, you should do what has been suggested by opening another account so you don't dull yourself doing the same thing especially if it's something like mining. Get the full EVE experience by doing different things or incorporate other games into your playtime that aren't also MMOs. |

A little word of caution with that quote:- It does work, but after about four years of happy drinking and playing Eve you may find yourself ruined by the drink so badly that you can't play Eve, (or do anything properly). Then you have to go into Detox etc etc etc...
Yep. Lesson learned there :) Be careful! |

As for burnout from EVE, eh...I'd like to think that I've come up with a good system that I don't need to play everyday.
I work, I have other games...but it's good to get up and take a break, then come back when you find the motivation to shoot something. :P Recommendations: -enable ships wobbling in hangar view (pre-Captains Quarters) -add more missions (NPC fleet vs. NPC fleets that actually shoot) -less focus on graphics, more on mechanics...and STOP NERFING EVERYTHING! Take a break from the game and play something else. Such as Loadout, which is incredibly fun. Or Path of Exile. Or any of the other myriad of games I have yet to finish on my Steam list. :) |

Trosh Aumer wrote:Rikanin wrote:Makes me wonder if there might be a correlation to how frequently you experience burnout vs how many accounts you sub.
Like maybe constantly having to manage the assets and skill queues of multiple toons makes everything seem extra tedious. Maybe just having 1 account keeps it from feeling like a second job?
Something to think about
I've tried my hardest to play with only 1 account.. but then after a week or so you start thinking "if only I could grab that from jita while I'm doing blah" or "Man it would be nice to have a scout" or "With just 1 more domi I cold clear these sites like no prob." And you realize that having 1 acct makes EVE really hard to do. Especially if you are low on SP. If you are training towards something that takes a month, and you realize you need salvage, or scanning, or processing, or hauling, or whatever.. you can de-rail your training queue for weeks filling it with little things you think you need.. or make an alt.
From someone who only does play one account, I have no problem doing it solo, especially with the peeps in my corp. Fortunately for me when I first started playing, I was still doing the tutorials and this guy pops into the zone and recruits me for my first guild back when I started in April of 2012. Played for about six months, couldn't afford to keep the account active at the time and let it lapse. Since I had an interest in an mining/industrial path, I had a lot of help learning what skills I needed to train and what not.
True, I'd train up some mining skills, then switch and train some fighting skills. I'd discover a module, only to discover I needed to train to use it, so I did. Primarily I was able to get my skills where I can effectively mine ore and ice and worked on some skills so I could fly battlecruisers (now battleships). I've kind of been a little all over the place with my training, but I've got my eye on piloting a Tengu, so I'm in the process of getting the prereqs up. The CEO of my current corp wants to do some wormhole exploration/mining and I've heard those ships are good for that, so I'm going to train to fly that ship whilst I mine ore to fund my expensive dreams.
A single account can be done, just takes time I've found. Will I get a second account at some point? Probably. But not right now. I have enough to do on this toon. |
