Edited by: Spartan239 on 09/07/2006 20:48:41 Edited by: Spartan239 on 09/07/2006 20:45:53 A clash of two teams who at the start never looked like reaching the final, but built up and the final looked to be a classic. Sadly this match was not a classic, it was good, but a classic it was not. France played better and espcaly throught the second half and extra time, even with ten men.It came to penaltys and the Italains won, laying a ghost to rest.
Congratulations Italy
A moment also needs to be taken to bid farewell to Zinedine Zidane, one of the greatest players ever. Also for men such as Del Piero and Totti and Touram who wont play again
edit: I would love to be in Italy right now
2nd edit: Congrats Lippi to leading your side to victory, and congrats Dominique for leading yoru side to the final

aye sitting here watching the game with a Frenchie and an Italian, let the sulking and teasing begin.
Overall I wasnt a fan of this cup¦s playing, mainly the hints of cheating and rolling on the ground. Well maybe I am just whining cause England went out -------------

And I thought Americans were supposed to be the violent ones. . .
Congrats to Italy. Hope they enjoy it, since they'll all be going back to play D3 ball in Italy with the amateurs. Deutschland. |

Firstly, De Rossi got a 4 match ban for elbowing Brian McBride (and american) in the group stages
Secodnly, chances are they will just be relegated to Seria B which isnt that bad, half of Seria A are Wigan like teams that shoudlnt rele be where they are

They weren't better. They played well from the second half but they weren't able to score. At least italy scored a propper goal.

Waited twenty-four years for it, it's incredible! This is soooooo good!
Regarding Zidane.... worst possible way to go. He shat on his whole career with that gesture.

You can say whatever you want but the images speak for themselves.
It does not matter what Materazzi told him: Zidane is not an young, inexperienced player. He knows what happens on the field and he should know how to behave (read ignore provocations and stuff).
Looks like Zidane, a sublime football player, could have used some 'anger management' lessons. Since this is not the first time that he behaves like this.
Oh well, better for us.

Then you would have been red-carded, you would have left your team in 10 and all the world would have looked at you as a perfect *******. Which is what happened tonight to Zidane.
Again, 'anger management' is the key (this is football, not street fight).

And fyi it is Materazzi, not Materatzi. - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

No matter what he sayed zidane is a pro + captain of his team + a rolemodel It would be real easy to get players sended out of the game if they would follow your advise
Anyway Zidane is/was a great player its a shame he has to end his carrier this way
He would be a good pvp player tho

Well mate, you know what, being Italian I am often the target of racist insults from people coming from all over the world (this is personal experience, not some made-up **** that I am writing to support my arguments).
If I would have "buttheaded" (is that the word?) every non-italian person that insulted me, my relatives and my Country, I would surely be in jail at the moment.
Did I hit them? No.
More, am I a super-paid football *PRO* representing *MY COUNTRY* in a World Cup final? No.
So please stop defending someone that behaved like a fool, it makes you look like him. A fool.

Btw, you don't type as someone having that kind of disorder, so sorry about my correction. - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Well you know what, I'm Jewish and I can garantue you that I have had more severe abuse than you, and I'd love to know what your solution to it is, because personly I dont put up with it and my reaction is normaly to turn round and punch the person because they cant say any more anti-semitic coments when there writhing on the ground in pain, and if Materazzi did call Zidane something long the lines of a ******* suicide bomber, (this is just speculation ofc but I would love to know what else he could have said to make someone kick off in that kind of fashion) then imo Zidane has every right to wack him one, espcaly after all the "Stap out Racism" sorts of slogans that have been so heavly used at this world cup.

On television around the world, representing your country, it is terrible form to attack another player, no matter what the circumstances.
There, i just contributed nothing to your thread |

I'd love to see Zidane's side of the story, and what was said, though I don't condone what he did. It was just dumb. No matter what was said, he was the team captain, the game was looking like it was going to PKs, and he was there best PK taker. It was dumb. He should've been the bigger man and walked away, possible to a win in the world cup. He not only put them down to 10 men, they lost their best PK kicker, but he destroyed their morale. And it totally screwed his legacy over, as that's what he'll be remembered for. --------------------

Curious as to which school taught you fools that being Italian, French or Jewish is a racial thing.
Oh yeah, the RACIST school did!
What Zidane did was nothing less than criminal assault. It wouldn't take much of a lawyer to argue that Zidane intended to do serious damage to the Italian. Totally unacceptable. Imagine how many young people look up to him.
I am incredibly impressed by the Italian restraint. I know from playing college sports, that if someone takes a cheap shot at a team mate, it takes quite a bit to keep blood from being spilt. Very professional on the Italian side. Total lack of professionalism from Zidane.
Good to see the professionals win.
Gratz to the Italians!

Spartan, we can argue all night long, but the bottom line is that you cannot search for personal revenge for something that happened to you on the field. Or better, you can, but you have to put up with the consequences.
If Materazzi called him something on the lines of "suicide bomber" or similar, then I feel ashamed for our player, because he would have been a ******* son of a *****.
But, even if this is the case (and we are speculating afaik), it cannot justify Zidane's reaction.
If you condone it, it is a personal point of view of yours, but it does not work in this way on the playground (or in the rest of the civilized society, at least it shouldn't, reality is sadly a different beast).
Concerning your question about what would be my solution: tbh I don't want to derail this thread even more, but I don't see more violence/bloodshed as a positive solution. - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
