I know, it's so funny. Half the posts are about the "death of pirating" and the other half are about how all the pirates are destroying the game for everyone by griefing and gate camping.

It really is hilarious if your one of the few who aren't too stubborn to see it from both sides. Idea

well kesh it seems u have just identified yourself as a carebear by labeling pirates who imo have very legit concerns "griefers" which they are not.

just because u get blown up doesnt mean the person who blew you up is a griefer. it means you got pwnt.

On the same note he might have identified himself as a pirate (or griefer) by labeling non-pirates with very legit concerns as "carebears".

Both "griefer" and "carebear" have been used all over the place and are now fairly meaningless labels. People use them all the time without considering if the term really applies to a particulat person.

Most of the people in the game do not fit even the hyperextended versions of the words 'griefer' or 'carebear'. Sadly, most of the people in the game do not post on these forums either.

I'm fortunate enough to never have been called a griefer or carebear. I don't blow people up, but I don't whine about being blown up either. Although, I am sure some of the pacifist-extremists probably think I am because I support the idea of Eve being a PvP game.

Pirate is not the same thing as griefer. but the occupation does attract most of the griefers. Pirating is a lot more appealing if you're the sort who gets your jollys from ruining someone elses day.

No one cares about the pirating, its the griefers and exploiters that ruin any game, including Eve. Rolling Eyes

Why is some can't see the difference between griefing, exploiting and pirating? Confused

I have ran into a few pirates, won a few fights with them, lost a few, I even paid a few tolls, and accepted it as part of the eve universe, but griefing and using exploits is what will ruin any game for the rest, including the pirates.Shocked

Consider this...

Without pirates, there would be less demand for new ships and equipment. As such we are helping the EVE economy along...

A pirate is not necessarily a griefer, and a griefer is not necessarily a pirate, though the two can overlap.

An anti-pirate is not necessarily a carebear. It depends what you're against--whether you fight against pirates as opponents, or whether you are against their very existence in the game. If you want pirates out of the game, or you desire an unrealistic reduction in their role, you're a carebear and deserve the derogatory label.

If pirate activity includes gate camping in a 0.4 system (awefully close to a 1.0 noob starting zone) using questionalble tactics to essentially kill noobs, then yes, I think a reduction in that kind of activity is called for.

Pirate is not the same thing as griefer. but the occupation does attract most of the griefers. Pirating is a lot more appealing if you're the sort who gets your jollys from ruining someone elses day.
I call myself a griefer to spite the carebears that seek solace in calling me a griefer. Whatever makes ya feel better, keep bringing me loot Twisted Evil

And by the way, I rule you.

A griefer is a person who's only enjoyement in any game is the ruining of other peoples game time and takes this to the extreme;
possibly even by going after the same people over and over,
that said, not all pirates are griefers - but the profession does lend itself to griefers.

Now a carebears is a fluffy cartoon bear from a kids show many years ago Rolling EyesShocked

just because u get blown up doesnt mean the person who blew you up is a griefer. it means you got pwnt.

You have just identified yourself by using the letters pwnt.

I see pirates being those that want to profit from ransoming/stealing/blowing **** up and looting. Griefers are people that do it just to ruin someone's day and don't care about the isk. I would also say that anyone who is scared of a remotely fair fight is probably a griefer. Also anyone that is too scared to 1v1 and tries some 6v1 gank crap.

Funny, you object to the term griefer, but overlook the term carebear which is equally as offensive to the intended recipient. This guy was obviously insulting on an equal opportunity basis.

Carebear vs greifer has a different definition for everyone, namely if you build stuff everyone else is a griefer and if you blow stuff up everyone else is a carebear.

But more generally, a griefer is someone who enjoys ruining other peoples fun just to be a spiteful *****, not killing people for money/loot/whatever other reward.
