To be honest, if there was a phone app or web site that could be used to change skill queues with this wouldn't be an issue.
No offense, but >10 eve accounts is like nearly $200 USD a month, perhaps trim down a little and invest some of the cash in a cheap laptop or other emergency system you can use to log in and manage skills? In the event of desktop failure, I have a Toshiba laptop that is worth about $250 USD that could totally manage my skill queue. I would not want to undock or do anything serious with it, but it would work. |

You must be new to doing business with CCP. And I highly doubt the loss of 13 accounts will kill EVE. For every customer vocally complaining there are usually between 7 to 9 thinking the same thing but remaining silent. Something else you'd be aware of if you'd ever owned a business. I'm under tornado watches right now, would you be equally callous if the reason for my being unable to login was that my whole house had been blown away? I have a feeling you would. My advice? Never get a job doing customer relations. You suck at it. Awesome self-quote in 3... 2... 1... Ok, GO!

What does your house getting blown away have anything to do with a subscription to an online game lol. You're right, I would be 'equally callous', especially if I didn't sell you "EVE Online Wind Damage Insurance" (available for 3 PLEX for 3 months).
But i guess you must be some kind of business owner right, and no matter how badly your customers screw things up for themselves you always give them a free ride, right?
I'll bet lol.

Your basically screwed out of the game-time. Been in a situation like this, (had my home flooded during a storm) 8 accounts lost some 3 weeks before internet was even back up in our town. Petitions will say, "yeah that sucks, but we can't help".
Good luck recovering, as a multi-account owner myself, I know how hard this can hit you, especially if you pay with plex. Haters gonna hate, Trolls gonna troll. |

Sigh....
I'll be semi nice.
1) a tip, do not post this stuff on the forums. Seriously. Just don't.
2) AFAIK there is only one option on the account manager page, and that's is 'Cancel subscription' the last time I tried to put an account on hold though was 2006 when I took a month break to get married. And took a month for the honeymoon (I so could of won that eve contest for free fan fest tix but I digress)
3) file a petition and request if they can put your account on hold.
4) run down to a store or use an online sport and grab a new hdd, they are cheap and honestly you can fix your pc in about 3 hours.
5) do not post this stuff on the forums, use petition. and now to be a ****...
if my pc had a hard drvie failure it would be repaired in 3 hours. I would have a **** fit without it. Though I could just use my laptop, but still! Why the hell are you wasting time? go get a new drive, and youtube how to install it, its like the simplest thing in the work to do. If you know the round peg goes in the round hole, you can change a bloody hard drive. All of the above.
Also, I have enough HDDs lying around to just grab one and replace the one that has become faulty.
I admit I've never had one fail on me so far...I tend to replace them quite regularly - also, my case is well ventilated and thus, cold enough to keep the components' life expectancy up. |

Well, I can give you a sample set where we work. We have over 30,000 desktop and laptop computers. We fail on average, 2 hard drives a week. That works out to about 100 a year to keep the math simple. That is about 1/3rd of a percent of the fleet every year. We replace computers every five years on average, so that means there in about a 1.67 % chance of a hard drive failure over the life of the computer.
This is in hospitals and clinics by the way, so most are on some type of UPS, conditioned power, and usually in a very clean environment.
(I think that is a big enough sample set that even the exploration people can agree)
EDIT: This does not include any servers. They won't tell me what the rate is there, but I know we haul a 2000 pound pallet to the recycle facility every 2-3 months.) This message brought to you by Experience(tm). When common sense fails you, experience will come to the rescue. Experience(tm) from the makers of CONCORD. |

Last time I looked most HDs have a lifetime rated at around 300,000 hours. You said yours are replaced every 5 years, which should be under that lifetime. This laptop is less than a year old, which is why I would expect it not to fail.
And to the people saying just go buy a new one, I will when I'm able. That isn't right at this moment because I just dropped my disposable income on 12 PLEXes. It'll be a few days to raise funds to cover unexpected expenses. Awesome self-quote in 3... 2... 1... Ok, GO!

Demonfist wrote:...It'll be a few days to raise funds to cover unexpected expenses. I'll try to put my view across on this without trolling you (but it's going to be hard tbh).
Earlier you were on about how companies should treat their customers, so I do have a perspective to add, as I own a company that is doing quite well, though now I am only a silent partner in the business and not actively doing much aside from little bits and pieces as the only native English speaker among the 4 owners.
In any transaction between a business and a customer, both parties have the right to fair treatment.
In EvE (as with most software based products), we agree what these rights are, right up front when we accept the EULA. CCP provides us fair access to the servers and game, etc., etc. and as customers we compensate them by playing within the EULA and paying a subscription (or having someone else pay through ISK->PLEX transactions).
So in a situation where CCP uphold their end of the agreement, is it fair as a customer to ask them to help control damage that you are suffering, even though they have no part to play in causing that damage?
My view is clearly that it's not fair for us as customers to ask CCP to take responsibility to limit damage that has occurred to us independent of CCP, by causing unfair damage to themselves (loss of income).
You've suffered loss and that's bad luck. I'm sympathetic to your situation and hope you get it sorted out quickly. But that's the extent of any support you deserve from CCP. Come Win At Eve - Join The Vendunari

HD failure happened to me about three weeks ago. I bit my tongue and handed over some of my hard earned dollars to best buy. They actually price match to online stores now so I got a pretty good deal.
OS install.
Eve install.
Back up in about 4 hours.
A cheap laptop serves as a backup. Nothing you would undock in.
HD swaps are easy. Heck, go to youtube and watch a video and you will have all the information you need.
Good luck. |

You're only paying for the license to play the game over a set period.
It's not CCPs fault you can't play the game because of your hard drive.
I'm interested to know, how do you get on with your car insurance when you go on holiday and leave the car at home. Do you ask them to freeze the insurance whilst you're away? Of course the answer is they won't because the policy is for a set period (just like CCPs license for their game).
In short you're licensed to play the game for the agreed period, but that doesn't mean you have to use it. The service is still being provided if you use it or not.
Edit: As for how many HDs of mine that have failed, 2 in the last 10 years. |
