Four words that kiddies dont want to hear.

I miss the days where the term carebear didn't have the "insult factor" that it seems to now. You are always going to have people who want to get lots of stuff with no risk of losing it, it's perfectly understandable.
But these days, it's used more as an insult :(

I always wonder, what is your beef with WoW on the Eve forums? Everyone just keeps bashing it, like it's shamefull to play, yet it is a nice game, player driven economy, player produced items, player gathered items to produce aforementioned products...ring a bell to Eve players?
No, I don't play WoW myself, but I've got several gamer friends who play. (all in their thirties btw)
Or is it just that there playerbase is about 200 times larger then Eve's? The green eyed monster, as they say?
I find the 'go back to WoW' a very good indication of the maturity of the Eve player base to be honest....

For the majority of eve players (or at least the ones that post often in this forum) eve is the ultimate pvp game, if you are not a pvp player or dont pvp ofter you get looked at you bad. Wow is not known for it's pvp capabilities and most ppl find it a carebear game, so, if saying you carebear is an insult, playing wow is also considered as an insult. -----------------------------

The origin of the term carebear in mmorpgs from wikipedia. For whatever reason in Eve its become entwined with the notion of wanting the game mechanics adjusted in some way to give you an advantage over your foes. - - - The Big Blue, ôExodus realised.ö |

The game aside (which is actually fun in short bursts), it's the community in WoW that sucked, in my experience of it anyway. The characteristics seem to be a lot more 'rabble rabble' than in eve, a lot more immaturity, and a lot of people who aren't prepared to accept responsibility for their actions in game, have an enourmous 'I'm behind my computer screen and you can't touch me' complex and want everything handed to them on a silver platter. Obviously there are going to be people like that in both games, I'm not trying to be elitist about it but the fact is: my experiences with the eve community has been mainly all good. my experiences with the wow community has been mainly all bad. I wouldn't say 'go back to wow' to someone who just wanted to mine in empire all day, I would say 'go back to wow' if someone started talking smack, got blown up, then said "y did u kill me!!!" because the majority of people I've met in WoW have been just like that. (and yes, I have friends in their 20-40s who play too and aren't immature leet kiddies, but the majority are) __________________________ Indulge Me |

"GBTW" is good
As for the term "carebear", by most people's definition, I am carebear.
But the best way I've heard the term "carebear" defined was from the CEO of a rather famous PvP corp (and I am NOT a carebear by his definition)
"True carebears are players who don't want non-concensual PvP to even EXIST anywhere in eve"

The most damaging insult in popular use right now is "moaners".
This is spouted by any number of "brown-nosers", who don't take kindly to criticisms of game-mechanics, or service provision by CCP.
The collective term applied to a group of "moaners" appears to be the "rabble".

The ultimate cuss in Eve is to accuse some one of being or of having been in the "Kimono directionless" (thats a little play on words at the expense of my best groupie friends :P) who's motto's include such witty yet accurate lines as "serve your self, sit on the fence" and "does my assfrig look big with this warp core stab?"

Question is, is it worth it caring about insults? You know who you are anyway.
Besides, people telling you to get back to WoW probably came from WoW themselves anyway.

It is because in comparison with EVE WoW's 'player driven economy' is a joke. When compared with EVE it's 'PvP' is a joke. Lastly when compared with EVE it's world is just a joke.
