Edited by: Tarn Minkan on 17/07/2006 02:33:52 I had a blast watching EVE TV this weekend and saw some amazing battles take place. Some matches really seemed to surprise the commentators, others called it before it happened.
Alliances like Chorus of Dawn and Red Skull, neither of which have I ever heard of before really impressed me. While ISS and Ushra Khan whom I hear alot about seemed to fare poorly.
So what team(s) impressed you in the PVP Alliance Championships?
What team(s) disappointed you in the PVP Alliance Championships?

I enjoyed all the matches but especially the Typhoon pawning the Rattlesnake, who was that?

i am not at all suprised over the mediocre performance by any amarr BS in the games. nor am i suprised over the ravens very high dominance either.
i was impressed by LV's quick change of tactics and recovery, very good commanding and adaptation by the leader there. i was utterly dissapointed by the Red's, what has happened? i was completely and utterly amused by all the fun names that smash/trash/slap on the wrist alliance have gotten now :)

Chorus of Dawn impressed me with their great performance.
Red Alliance disappointed me. All the alliances that didn't show up for their matches did too, but i kinda expected that.

I take it you are talking about when they fought ISS?
And my best moment was when you said sorry to SA.

I am AMAZED at the number of alliances that have not shown up. I mean, come on... six people? How hard is that to organize?
Also, the lack of preperation from some teams is stunning, not to mention the absolute crap teamwork and ship compositions I've seen. People had months to get ready for this and there are matches being delayed because a team is waiting on a member to fit a ship ffs!
MC has been lucky at least that our group seems to be 'alive'. What has been really cool for us is that we got to fight two alliances we've never faced before (UK & ISS) and get to fight a damn good SA team and the surprising Chorus of Dawn guys next weekend.
All in all, I'm having a ton of fun watching the other matches, smack talking Diana and Stav in IRC and shooting some people I never have before. -

RA crumpled because they lost the Curse very fast both times. MACTEP (the Curse pilot) is The RA FC and a rly cool guy. Had they managed to keep him alive longer on either much things would have gotten interesting.
Astarte and Bhaalgorn would have a sporting chance at killing our faction railthron if MACTEP had stayed at the helm IMO. Same for their much on Sunday (which was a bit closer).

The tournament has been great fun to watch! I made several friends who don't even play EVE watch it and they all loved it too!
The biggest surprise to me was someone actually used a Typhoon, it really is a fun little ship!

That made me chuckle as well, cause we don't have an alternative stratergy, lucky Tyrrax is there to tell us where we are going wrong.
I also love it how we always manage to turn it around, despite losing badly at the beginning when that destroyer goes down.
No but sarcasm aside, that tactic can't work forever but SMASH's Italian defence I have found pretty funny, also considering how rubbish they were last time.
My disappointment has been RA, for an alliance with such a rich PVP history they have looked poor. Sad for an alliance that once boasted such good members to now be perceived as a laughing stock.

Yeah, tbh I am tired of this "perfect round" stuff. We're not in this thing to be perfect, just to win. I'm perfectly happy to lose both my team's frigs every single match if it means a win in the end.
The only reason that a team gets through a round with all of its ships intact is becuse the other team a.) never shot at them, b.) was too busy getting blown the hell up c.) sucked badly.
In our fight with UK, we lost our Sabre because it got swarmed with drones. What can you really do, ya know?
Against ISS, they just splattered our Ishkur with long range spammage that the drones couldn't keep up with. Our Flycatcher went down because the ISS Zealot hit a little harder than we expected (we thought he was set up as an uber tank) and that was just a plain screwup on our part.
Frigs can be useful in this tourney, but they are hardly decision-makers as to who is going to win a match. I found it hilarious when the commentators were talking about LV "going down" less than five minutes into the fight. -

I wont be supprised if [5] wins this tournament...

i think ASCN are looking good so far with the full gallenti squad but i think they will have problems if a rapier turns up and keeps the navy mega webbed out at 40km.
AXE did not look to impressive in the fight against Stain i could not see what they were trying to do and if they did have a plan it did not work out to good.
Rock shadow of former selfs. i thought they would put up a good fight like they did last tornument but have not stepped up to the plate.
BOB, 5, D2 impressive
SMASH. doring but effective super tanked ships just killing the opponants frig and dessy then holding out for the win, never been used before but 3 wins out of 3 and no ship losses, cant complain with that. very good use of the Huggin/rapier (cant remeber which one used) neutralised the domi.

Red Alliance were the most unexpected and biggest dissappointment so far.
LV's tactics have been good and fun to watch as they have a slow start until their tactics start to take effect, so you're sat on the edge of your seat wondering if this is the fight where they won't get on top.
I've enjoyed watching some of the newer/smaller/unseeded (yeah I know no-one's seeded really but I'm sure you know what I mean) alliance's teams fighting it out. NORAD, 3FA, Chorus of Dawn, Exuro, Smash etc..
The few that haven't shown up have been dissappointing though.

We only tune into the commentary when we have taken down one of the big 3, but I have watched after, its all so excitable. To be honest its never been much of a concern.

Yes you will.
Tyrrax, I am soooo not buying you a beer this year at the FF. Ohh... I didn't get you one last year either you say? Hmm.... Excelent.
I really liked KAOS though and their Phoon. I am a dedicated Phoon pilot and his tank was great. Ohh and for the match Commentators.... A phoon is not a little of both (armour/shield) tank. It has 7 lows and 4 meds. Figure it out guys. ------

I was amused to see that T1 Raven perform so good amongst all theese T2 and faction ships. Can not remember for who he fought and against who he fought.
I would like to see more T1 ships actually.

The Red Skull have been the most impressive, just goes to show that you dont need a big-named alliance to get far in the tournament. but im ex-kr0m so im very biased.
the funniest moment? the D-L fight last night when they fielded a complete tech 1 setup exluding the retribution, including a cyclone and a rupture. and got thier *******s handed to them on a platter.
its funnier for me, because i actually know why. a friend of mine looted them for 7 bil + a fully fitted carrier right before the tournament, causing them to miss a match and have no isk to afford a decent setup. hilarious.

It was pretty good, iac have particually impressed me, there teamwork is spot on. Biggest disapointment was RA....dont think i need to explain but i think they had some external issues.
Most annoying thing was the eve-radio commentators, it was ok first night, i could have a laugh, but 3 nights in a row just sorta ticked me off, so it went on mute. They make people who ive accused of being a "newb" before seem like eve databases .

LOL! Cute. My point was that teams have had several weeks to prepare for this event whereas the first tournament was concieved, excecuted and over in days. Trying to compare the first tourny with this one is absurd. They are entirely different animals in every way.
