LOL! Cute. My point was that teams have had several weeks to prepare for this event whereas the first tournament was concieved, excecuted and over in days. Trying to compare the first tourny with this one is absurd. They are entirely different animals in every way.
rofl. right..
Its true, alliance leaders were contacted shortly before christmas (like dec 23 or 24) with information for the torunament starting on the 27th. Planning for this tournament has been going on since at least the beginning of April with notices posted in the news at the end of May.

Disappointment? RA, for sure. SMASH's damage output, that's another.
On the positive side, I'm really digging ASCN's all-Gallente, all-blaster tactic. Rubs me the right way.

Ushra'khan have had other priorities over the last few weeks leading up to this tourney. Thats my excuse anyway and we will stick to it.
Hell at least we still came along to a very expensive event, and are one of the smallest alliances.
Anyone who fielded a team in this event deserves a bit of respect. The World cup format is financially draining.
But yes, from what I hear we could have done better.
Sadly not even seen any of our matches yet as the times are no good for me.

My biggest surprise was when my trusty thrasher lived for more than 10 seconds in one match .
I loved the tank on truk's raven, and was pleasantly surprised by the Typhoon.
I'd also like to give my respect to D-L, who have shown up for all of their matches, despite having been hit hard by a corp theft (if the rumours are true). They are showing great spirit, unlike a couple of other teams that have withdrawn or not even shown up at all.

I know but try telling that to Derran and Tar. They were getting OP feaver near the end and twice we had to stop Tar from trying to eat the BP and components/minerals because he was convinced he could build it himself. Edited by: Havelcek on 17/07/2006 14:36:56 My random thoughts:
- Gutsy performances by 3FA...props to you
- Shame on you PURE
- Anyone else get a little sick when these faction BSes get blown up?
- Props to SMASH for figuring out the best way to work with the tourney rules so far
- Big Shame-On-You to LeMonde for allowing the rules violations, hope those ships get refunded
- Biggest disappointment so far has been not getting to see matches involving alliances like BoB due to no-shows
- Also very disappointed in the poor video resolution for the battle scenes
- Selfish comment here, but props to ASCN for coming with a unique approach
- Its been said before but I was shocked by RA...I just assumed they would wtfpwn
One final thought, I think the winning alliances should celebrate by warping in shuttles full of bookmarks so the devs can experience that first-hand, since their GMs claim there's no evidence of server lag. Just my opinion of course.

Yeah, tbh I am tired of this "perfect round" stuff. We're not in this thing to be perfect, just to win. I'm perfectly happy to lose both my team's frigs every single match if it means a win in the end.
The only reason that a team gets through a round with all of its ships intact is becuse the other team a.) never shot at them, b.) was too busy getting blown the hell up c.) sucked badly.
mah i don't totally agree here... to win losing a frig and a destroyer is not bad, to win is the important thing...
but also i will not underestimate the loss of these ship, as SMASH demonstrated you can win just taking down a couple of enemies and defend the result till the time ends.
also in these battles there is not much firepower involved and the loss of such ships can mean to not be able anymore to break the opponent tanks (or eventually to take out drones effectively as Kaos have done)
so yes a loss or 2 is not important if you win, but also to consider these ship as expendable(?) can be quite dangerous against a strong defensive team.
just my personal opinion and... i will await the MC video about the tournament

Well, iirc, Red Skull never organised any prior training specifically for this. In all due respect, we are training during the matches since nothing replaces the real thing. KR0M is just a bunch of calm friends who have blown enough stuff around to know both what ships can and cannot do

Everyone keeps talking about the T'phoon vs the Rattlesnake like it was a 1 v 1? It was 4 v 1 and finally 3 v 1 when the Snake poped. I'd say the Phoon had quite a bit of help.

Edited by: Eddie Gordo on 17/07/2006 16:44:22 I can tell you exactly why we lost all three rounds. It was a combination of poor organisation and bad luck.
VS MC
I screwed up completly. Like maggot said, we have been busy with other things (outpost) and had not had much time to devote to sorting out an alliance team. I gotvolenteered to be the backup pilot. A couple of days before the first round our primary battleship pilot announced he would not be able to make it for the entire weekend. I didnt have a ship ready, but I did know what I was going to be fitting and what the plan was, I also had all the bits in the station I normally operate from.
On the day of the match I was on a school trip that overran. (I work for a school) I also thought our match was later than it was. While driving back I got a phonecall (hands free!!) saying we had been called up... FOOT TO THE FLAW
Whats this, oh **** i'm 10 jumps from home....insta back...try and refit ship.
Teamspeak at this stage went somethig like
"Are you ready" "No i'm not F****ing ready" "Are you ready" "No i'm not F****ing ready" "Are you ready" "This isnt F****ing helping"
So anyway it came down to me being a bit disorganised. In the end my ship was not ready so I had to take a ship that was fitted for npc tanking (with some switched hardeners) We got pwnd plain and simple.
Vs Chorus of dawn
We were over elaborate, and unlucky This is the round where we got slagged off for using artillery. looking back quite rightly so, but what the pundits didnt know was how the plan was supposed to pan out.
The huggin in this round was essential to the plan. Its job was to sit next to my tempest and hold the entire enemy team at range with its 4 webifiers. It had armour plates and hardeners on, and the command ship had mods to help out the resistances. We had armour repair drones and I had duel remote armour reps.
Things started well, both the frigate and the destroyer were dispatched pretty quickly as intended. Then disaster struck, the huggin somehow was out of range of my two medium repair mods. We tried to get back in range of one another and it did hold out fairly well just with drones, but by the time the first cycle was due to finish it popped. After that everything went **** up, as the ships closed to unacceptable ranges.
Looking back the plan was way too complicated and relied far to heavily on one ship (much like our last round vs ISS)
VS ISS
We relied too heavily on the logistics ship. This was probably our best round of the three. Contrary to the comentators who stated that the destroyer only lasted two volloys, it actually took quite a beating before going into armour. Since everyone in almost every match has gone for this ship first, I fitted three medium shield extenders and a damage control giving me well over 3k shields. We had logistics drones and a logistics ship repping me, and I think I lasted a good 4 or more volloys from the entire group before popping.
Caldicotts af with the logistics repping it actually proved impossible to break, so ISS of course went for the logstics ship....who crumbled with extreeme ease.
Even at this point all was not lost, as the remaining battlecruiser and battleship had the ISS zealot virtually on hull. Unfortunatly our ship caved first and it was all over. This fight was a lot closer than the comentators gave credit for, but ultimatly ISS had the better team and they won the day.
--------
I have enjoyed the tournemant this year, and we [b]WILL be turning up to get blown up by stain, despite having zero chance of going through now. One thing I would suggest for next year, is that one reserve pilot simply is not enough. People have real lives and this needs to be accounted for. I would say 2-3 spare pilots is essential if you dont want alliances dropping out.

First of all, I agree that it is an overstatement to say that the ôtyphoon killed the rattlesnake.ö Obviously the typhoon had a decent amount of help in this feat. The surprise of this battle is perhaps more correctly stated in that the team with the typhoon beat the team with the rattlesnake. Upon closer inspection, however, this should not seem so far fetched. It has been seen in a number of situations in this tournament that teams with a nos-heavy BS have done quite well. For the circumstances of this tournament, I would argue that the phoon is a better nos platform than the domi. Most teams have found it more useful to use large drone bays for logistics drones as opposed to dmg drones, rendering the drone bonuses of the domi insignificant. The phoon is able to field the same # of heavy drones, while at the same time holding a full 8 high-slots. So it can run the typical 4 heavy nos seen on a nos-domi setup, while also running 4 launchers/proj with dmg bonuses (torp launchers for the phoon in the tourney I believe), and a full squadron of heavy logistics drones.
If I remember correctly this match was a stalemate while logistics drones where being destroyed, but once those drones are out of the picture any further tanks are going to be rendered useless by a nos heavy BS. There are a number of ways that you can counter a nos heavy team, and I am sure we will see these as the tournament progresses.
