IMHO they need an expert on the couch. Stav, while being an interesting personality doesnt know whats going on half the time. Sure he's fun to watch but you really need an expert up there.
Enter Joshua Foiritain.
Who better to talk about those tiny obscure alliances than him? He can be on teamspeak and answer questions regarding alliances and be as neutral as its gonna get.
Just a thought.

My best friend is blind so when we watch a movie or play an American football simulator I still have to tell him what is going on on the screen.
Commentating is about 100x harder than you think it is, trust me.

My favorite EVE TV comment had to be the one where they were discussing the large amount of missles ships (Caldari)
Then they sadi something about how with missle ships you just need to press F1 to f8 LOL
I thought this was funny.
Also on a side note that man Al Haquis was the one who took me under his wing an taught me the senseless way I PVP. It shows by the number of ships I have actually lost LOL

I think the coverage has been pretty good, I was sick a lot of the weekend so missed the early matches. It definately raises the bar for online games, especially when you consider the size of CCP and the player base compared to EQ, DAOC or WoW.
CCP is definately the dog with the most fight pound for pound.

The best commentsi heard from them were the comments about red alliance, about been upset coz they couldnt use the logon trap and at the next fight they would have to bring a badger and pop a tower out to stand a chance of winning. Those comments were genious

They are doing a good job, but things that I would suggest..
1. Less chitchat, more play by play. 2. Don't diss the losing team to badly. 3. Keep the dirty talk to a minimum. Some of us watch the whole session of eve tv, or atleast listen to it, and we hear the same things over and over sometimes. 4. in the play by play, try and let us know what kind of battle it is.. are all 10 ships going close combat? are some trying to take range positions? is the HAC manevuring with the command ship? etc. it's hard for us to see what's going on exactly on the tv, so the commentators could do a bit more detailed play by play i think. I know itsprobably hard when they dont control all the cameras and what not

Fantastic job, really enjoying the coverage. Yeah there was the odd time where I was yelling at my monitor (FFS OFC THE DOMI ISN'T MOVING THEY HAVE A ******* RAPIER :p) but just goes to show how immersive and entertaining the whole thing is. Nice work Eve TV guys
lol @ Al Haquis, yeah they really need to get him in there

While at times the commentators say some unimpressive things like...
Shock and awe reactions when a destroyer gets blown up...
and asking why they haven't seen many zealots in the tournament when there is one every other match...
and just sometimes reporting wrong information regarding what a ship can do...
I will say I have been extremely impressed with the commentary overall. They have sounded confident and have really added to the enjoyment of EVE TV. They have a very good grasp of the game and can explain it well. These guys are commentating on video games. Not like CCP went out and looked up a bunch of resumes on monster.
Did anyone here the first tournament on eve radio? The DJ refused to uncloak so he could target and give damage reports because he was afraid of being blown up. These guys are doing a fantastic job. Keep up the good work.

I dont know how often they paly eve but when they do they must play with roids or Serps or something... they are to slowwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
You see the smaller ships especially getting little damage, trying to fly away getting weebed going half armour then boom. Then 30 secs later they say... "it appears we have lost the Jaguar of so and so... what happened there? We will wait for confirmation..." Lol guys... its a pvp contests you have to keep your eyes on the ball.
Its like watching a prat Chinese DVD with the subtittles lagging 3 scenese behind.
A few free tips:
You see a small ship getting a lot of damage and reaching structure then nothing happens. He is not "holding his tank" he has managed to fly away / built transversal /has disengaged. Peel your eyes off him... you dont have to comment for 20-30 secs on whether he is taking damage or not. If the red is not moving on a ship with 4-600 hp on that part of it then nothing's happening by Jove. Tell us about the HAC about to explode on the other side of the screen.
You see Ravens holding shield at 70-80% continuously and you say : "Omg they cant break this tank evah" Folks thats active shield tanking and it is NOT sustainable. You should rather say: "Now we will have to see how long his cap charges will hold"
You comment often how last ship standing from the losing squad has rep drones on it. It is his own drones. They slowly came back since they had nothing to repair. They are not helping him.
You were talkign about a Mega doing no damage blah blah and what a bad choice blah blah blah on a game on Sunday. you completely missed the point where his team had a Rapier to begin with but that was blown up so the bad guys were all over him and his guns wouldnt track. read ships and mods a bit.
Also short range set ups webbed a long range away from target by Rapiers/Huggins or frigs are dead in the water. Dont ask yourselves "what is their plan? What is that Domi doing?" All he is doing is cursing his luck trust me....
You commented how a Vulture went down too fast on an occasion. If you had looked close you wuld have seen that the ship was not repairing at all. The "gang support" commands can have 3 mids taken up with gang modules leaving another 3 for the tank. Some use only hardeners there and let their gangm8s support them. Since he was last man standing their was no booster/boosting. Generally only BSs have so many hitpoints that it is difficult to make sure wether they are reping actively or not. In smaller ships if you are seeing a linear progressive breaking of the shield tank it means its passive....
Anyway nm thanks for trying your best... pay more attenion to whats happening because those who cant understand these things are not particularly enlightened by the comments.
On the bright side I have seen some improvement from Day 1 to 2 to 3.
Finally the camera men should set some sort of standings to the teams so we can see say 5 red and 5 blue dots of some sort ... this will give a far better insight in whats happening...

In my opinion you guyÆs talk to much downgraded about the people and there ships.
For example if you only listen to the comment about the KAOS typhoon... ItÆs like way under the belt. Also what you guyÆs do or like in EVE isnÆt really an + for the match thatÆs going on.
Plz DonÆt get me wrong here. EVE TV is awesome and I love the live matches just be a bit more professional on your comments since this game is with people and people do have feelings..
Hey if ur bothered about the neutrality and comments, it should be comforting at least to know none of those presenters have ever been laid lmao |

Originally by: Degaal Valen What they really need to do is have one of those token sideline female reporters like they have over here for American Football. Some woman tooling around in a covops telling us pointless anecdotes about how one side likes to read Art of War quotes before their matches.
Also I haven't heard anything that sounded like favoritism more just that they are expecting certain people to win. The one match my alliance had that I got to watch they didn't expect us to win and made that abundantly clear but they seemed happy to note that our representatives did better than they expected. I don't think that's favoritism.
It stands to reason a well-entrenched alliance with older characters is going to outperform newer and/or smaller alliances. This isn't favoritism.
In all seriousness... ive followed "TV/cast" in several other games and honestly... the female VJs/casters always literally triple or quadrouple the turn-out. Seriously...
I've been really enjoying EveTV, as a newbie. I'd agree that they could show a bit more impartial flare at times, but it's understood that they are players with passion... and they are honest about it (real bias tries to hide itself).
My final comment is for all those involved in EveTV to keep doing the 'we have a question from a newbie' types of segments and to remember that not all viewers understand or care about 20 minute diatribes about pure technical issues.
It's the overall team strats and such that are most fun, and of course the social/alliance drama tidbits are also fun. Just keep in mind, guys, that you're promoting a game we all love in doing this so... be nice. ---------------------- Ф Blood Eagle ---------------------- |

EveTV I liked the CCP-Interviews, the cuts, the second studio moderator - well done.
But please come up with some new commentators for the fights. Maybe friends in real life (like we have Netzer and Delling commenting football in Germany - comedy gold) with some subtle humor. Guys who are on par and have decent game knowledge without getting lost in technical details.
Xod came over bored and arrogant ignoring and shrugging off the other commentator all the time. None witty or uplifting at all. Can I meet your shieldtanked Typhoon? *fits 2 snowball launchers*

While running gang mods he still doesnt have cap to tank though. The drain is pretty big.

I 100% agree with this topic. Lemme add some things. The commentators are way out of line when they are routing for people ship destruction just cause of the way the ship looks. That to me is ridiculous. Each alliances depending on if they really want to win or not is spending a ton of isk to finance the mods and the ships and for a commentator to be routing for destruction like that is just appauling.
Also, I am just sooo happy that KAOS shown the commentators and the "Experts" that they were all wrong about the Typhoon and it is indeed a great ship to pvp in. And people dont need Fleet issue this or that to win.

to be honest the commentary has been pretty good so far, only bit that i really laugh about is when they lose ships and they turn up every now and then.
only negative is their obsession to talk about BoB during every fight and every bit between every fight.

This is something that threw me off personally. I decided to rather watch the matches without sound than hearing stuff like that. It's a bit like watching a good footy match on tv, if the commentators really don't know their stuff and are just yapping and trying to be interesting I'll be focusing/irritating myself on that instead of on the footy. I'm not saying they're that bad, but they should be focusing more on the match yes :p

OK, now that i've really caught up on most of the coverage, i can properly comment.
First of all, i just want to say i think you guys have done an EXCELLENT job overall. That goes to everybody involved with this. The first day obviously had some technical challenges, but it came together well.
So, i hope the rest of my comments are taken as constructive feedback...
Camera
No more tight close-ups and spinning uber-camera work, please. That's nice for a pretty promo video but not good for live coverage when peopel observing really are interested in information not Teh Pretty.
I'd request that the HUD be shown almost 95% of the time so that viewers can fully see the overall "score." If you do any close-up shots, keep it back a bit and really focus on showing the support activities (support, drones, etc). We know what bew bew bew and bang bang looks like. We are tuned in to watch a match not eve itself, generically.
Live Talk
Focus more on what we cant see well. It's great to get the updates on ships dying and i think even tho we can sorta see that as well, it's useful to call it out (i.e. "the flycatcher is dying fast!"). HOWEVER, what we cant see well and you can... are all the drones and support inter-relationships.
Half the battle is about the teamwork going on out there on-the-fly and i'd like to hear much more focus on that stuff. I want to hear immediately if logistic drones switch to another ship, etc. We can see if ships are taking damage, but that other stuff isn't being fully captured in the coverage. If there's 1 thing that could be done better in the commentary is to really try to focus on capturing all that stuff.
Overall Eve-TV & Tournet setup
Perhaps this isnt controlled by Eve-TV, but it would be nice to have more "overview & analysis" time pre-match about the specific ship rosters in the upcoming fight.
In other words, right now we sometimes have the couch potatoes quickly discuss the upcoming roster but IMO that should be done consistently and be a main focus of this. General discussion about the alliances is fun, but what matters are the ships put on the field. As with sport, pre-game analysis is ROSTER oriented. It should be the same in this tourney.
I dont know how early the rosters ar announced, but i think for the overall success of this project they should be required at a precise time before the match. Enough time to allow proper discussion (and betting/smacktalk) but not so much that the opposing team can do more than adjust tactics.
Surely some might argue that it oughta be a surprise to the opposition at the moment of the match start, but i think that's less of a legitimate factor in a tourney of this caliber and the overall success and popularity should take precedence over some 2 minute sense of surprise. If you need that extra surprise to decide matches, then this isnt really the type of fighting the fans want.
So, i'd like to see more discussion right before the match about the 10 ships and the 2 teams based on actual ship rosters. That allows folks to really ask questions, make predictions and discuss strengths/weaknesses BEFOREhand which is great for observers and the entire Eve-TV project.
Anyways, i have to say im fairly new to eve and really enjoying this tournament. I hope these comments are useful.
