Just as the subject and this news item state, it is not a good idea to use any sort of exploits, whether they are in-game or on the forums. If you value your ability to play EVE or post to the forums, just don't do it.

Hmm, It was rather simple, and like i said. I did it by mistake. Didn't even realise it has by-passed the ban until i posted a reply and i saw "Wow, What the hell, this is KilROCK".
But there's a bigger picture lol, that's what Kieron is ****ed about.

If they were banned from the forums or game, it was probably for a good reason. Nobody deserves exemption from the rules just because of their 'legendary' or veteran status.

Its quite possible Tank and the gang thought that they were given back access due to the forum moderators reconsidering old bans, and didn't realize that the permaban system was in fact broken.

Seriously tho, i remember the forums were a lot better back in the day. They are much worse off as a result of these chars not being around... some of them were banned for frankly, stupid reasons, and do not deserve to be permabanned.

I'm taking this thread (what with it being a dev post about forum bans and stuff) as a chance to discuss moderation: in particular, the ban system.
The way the forum system works (warnings not decaying, multiple warnings over any period of time adding up to a ban) and the way they are awarded (pretty much pick and mix, there is no definite line really. Some days you'll get a warning for something, others you can post something twice as bad and get away with it) add up to meaning that the older players, particularly those who have been active on the forums get banned, even though they really don't deserve it. Take Josh Calvert as an example.
Its pretty definite that at some point, I'm going to be permabanned on these forums due to years of warnings adding up. Same with most other people who post often. Personally, I think its detrimental to the Eve, and forum, community. Of course, I have a vested interest

I can honestly say the only thing I dislike about eve is the forum ban system.
While in some ways it is good, and keeps uber retards from posting, in a way longevity has a way of catching up with you.
I've been here since early 2004, and I know I must have somewhere between 5-7 forum warnings.
It really depends on the mod, some things that are meant purely in jest result in a warning, while others which are meant to be intentionally bad are ignored.
I know the mods do the best they can, but it would be nice if there was some sort of system in place for long-term users whom do make mistakes or use bad judgement to be able to rehabilitate themselves.
For instance, I've been driving since I was 16.
I'm 33 now. I haven't been pulled over since I was 17 years old.
However, in that year that I started driving I racked up about 5 tickets and an accident.
After that terrible (omg fun) year I got my head in the right place and haven't been pulled over since.
I can't imagine how it would be to lose my license for the rest of my life.
Now imagine how Jade feels

Yeah, the original thread was about how he was glad he was apparently unbanned, and thanking the mods/kieron for it
Incidentally, is there a reason that the entire thread was deleted, rather than the normal editing to "REMOVED - Modname" we usually get?

I agree that the forum warning/forum ban system needs to be reworked. Warnings need to be removed after a certain period of time, maybe 6 months or a year after they've been received.
