CS:CZ has no right to be on there IMO.
I'm going to have to give Deus Ex the top spot, personally. Will think of others later.

It's kinda hard to pick the 5 top games ever...ever...ever especially when the monkey island series would fill that up, and if anyone disagrees then all i have to say is "Soon my hankerchief will mop up your blood", anyways back to my contenders for top games
Deus Ex - Gotta agree with Hippo on this, sequel would be a contender for biggest let downs. Monkey Island Series - HAHAHAHA brilliant, nuff said Sam & Max - HAHAHAHA funny and crazy, nuff said EVE:Online - been here 3 years, still going, it's doing something right Syndicate - Amazing game, arm flamer, walk into crowd and burn them all, or persuade 1 billion people then self-destruct killing them all HAHAHA
I think it comesdown to the companies more than anything else, early LucasArts point+click are still the most enjoyable games you can find.
Bullfrog again made some very nice games (Populous and Theme Park), that have inspired a lot of the current crop.
Tis just a shame that a lot of these had sequels that didn't quite live up to the early versions.
Deus Ex: Invisible War, became victim to making a console game then porting it to PC
Monkey 1&2 are the pick of the bunch, the other were a bit of a let down in comparison but are still very good and enjoyable games.
Sam&Max - damn you for cancelling the sequel (i think they knew it would be crap so didnt bother)
I know some people will come out with the common ones, so hopefully my choices for 5 of the top games will cause people to have a bit of a nostalgic think before posting HL2, UT2007, Quake4, F.E.A.R, Oblivion. I have no problem with these but i'd like to see soem older games appear.
It' best i shut =up now coz i love games and i could quite happily fill quite a few pages with me talking bout my fave games.
If you would like to see/hear me talk about my gaming habits in a well constructed program, see if you can persuade the devs to give me my own show on EVE TV =============================================

Syndicate, this was the first game I played that when I started I didn't stop, until late that night, some 18 hours later I was facing attempting the atlantic accelerator mission and wondered why it was dark and why I was close to passing out, and then realised it was dehydration and lack of food.
Street Fighter 2 arcade machine, this just kicked ass, the amounts of people who found friends and nemesis amongst those they had never met before, in an arcade was very high.
Deus Ex was a fantastic game, I couldn't stop playing it, the story the entire concept, I thought it was amazing. I still hope for further development of that line. Probably still my all time favourite.
Half-Life and the mods its spawned, including counterstrike, if anythign stole years of my life it was counterstrike back when it was in beta development and early versions.
Eve-Online, has safely stolen the rest of my life thus far.

A few off the top of my head. FF3 (the States version, think it was FF5 in Japan) was the game that really got me into rpg's. Was a massive game for its time. FF7 ruled, I also enjoyed FF8. FF8 was by no means amazing, and really didn't introduce anything new, but graphics were good, cutscenes looked great, kept me entertained. Shining Force for Genesis-I still pull this out sometimes and play it. The battlefield system actually encouraged you to think strategically. The job promotion system was cool too. Kain was a great villian, and seeing a game where the hero actually died in the end was pretty surprising. I could go on, list other stuff I enjoyed like Mortal Kombat, Metroid, Tekken, Syphon Filter, KotOR, etc., but the ones I listed above are some of the ones that I really loved and influenced my taste in games to come.

My top 5, in no particular order:
-Baldur's Gate 2- I've spent 8 months getting through the first time. It was brilliant in everything: story, (functional) graphics, dialog, sound, gameplay... It's hard to top this game for everything it does. I've literally bought it 3 times now because my cd's get too scratched up.
-Diablo- Love or hate, really, but even though it spawned god-awful clones, it was still very nice to play, just for the sheer addiction factor and mood. I'm not playing this anymore, i've grown tired of it, but in many ways, it was my first love in gaming. Just one more level, just a little bit more gold, just that one quest...
-Colonization- At this point, i'm taking all the civ games into this header - Colonization was just the best of them. Closely followed by Alpha Centauri, but Colonization still tops AC. IT had longetivity, some national pride, a good concept that they adapted from the normal civ, and way better graphics which captured the mood a lot better than civ 1 and 2's greyness, if you know what i mean. It also had the "just 1 more turn" syndrome, of course, but it was a lot worse with this one than it was with Civ or AC.
-Duke Nukem 3D- Untill this day, i have never even finished this game... I just got in, played a few levels untill i got frustrated and started playing around with Build, the editor. Oh god, that was so much fun... You could do insane things with this engine, things you can't even do with current day engines! But that's not the main pojnt. It was just the level of things you could do in this shooter, and it introduced the coolest game character ever made. It simply had that x-factor to go with the actual fun of playing it...
-Scorched Earth- Simple, tanks shooting each other. But, with stuff like mole bombs, funky bombs, nukes, and the terrain was actually deformable! This was actually the precursor to worms, but it still was a lot better than the pink slug fest. So much more settings you could have fun with (rubber walls, anyone?), and on the right (read: slow) computer, you could watch for minutes how your nuke would bounce back and forth untill it nearly missed your opponent, which is sitting right next to you. You can still have serious fun with this game....
Honorable mentions
Morrowind It almost made my top 5, but it didn't. It just felt a little bit too unimmersive at places, and it sometimes showed it's teeth by just letting me know that it wasn't really finished yet.
Daggerfall Same as Morrowind, really, but this one fell through because eventually, it's entire world was the same. I have yet to finish it though, and the storyline is pretty good - but it can't save the rest of the game falling down due to the sheer repetitiveness of it. It was a hell of a lot more immersive than many current day games even, though, and it's still quite playable if you see through the very bad graphics.
EVE Online Why am i not mentioning this one you think? For a good reason: it still has some ways to go before it becomes the perfect game, and right now, there are many small details that add up to a huge letdown, at least for me. EVE is a sandbox, but we only have sand to play with right now - and that's not enough. I'm confident that it will get where everyone wants it to be though, but right now, it's not in my top 5. However, it is the only game which had me playing for more than a year straight, and that *does* count for something.
There's more mentions, but i can't really think of any deserving ones for now.

BTW, those of you living in the UK and haven't had the pleasure of playing the Baldurs Gate or Icewind Dale games, get to your local Game store ASAP as they currently have every BG game + expansion boxset (the DVD versions too) and the same for Icewind Dale - I think the sets are ú10-ú15 each. Also, Diablo 2 + Expansion are going dirt cheap too
I'm waiting for some kind soul to rerelease Planescape Torment on budget so I can finally have the joy of playing it.
