As many of you may have seen from the Scope News alert on Facebook or on the EVE Online news center, a CCP fleet has departed Polaris on a training exercise. The fleet will be appearing, possibly in a system near you, and should be considered dangerous. Well, you guys know we know nothing about EVE so maybe we are harmless. Some of you will find out if it is the former or latter which is true.
Our incursions are a training exercise for something much bigger later this year and we want players to attack us and have fun. As a result, we have rules of engagement for how the CCP fleet will interact with other players. Naturally, you guys are free to shoot us at will and you operate under no rule set outside of the normal EVE Online rules.
Please see the set of rules below:
1.CCP Devs will be flying ships which are available to all pilots so no exotic ships such as the Eidolon will be used. We want to ensure that all players have a fair chance to participate and the test environment ships are too much to handle. 2.All CCP ships will be Tech I or Tech II fit. 3.CCP Devs will attack players, generally in response to being shot at first. We may aggress on ships which are spying on us or setting up for a hostile fleet warp in. 4.CCP Devs will NOT pod players who lose a ship. 5.CCP Devs will not be able to use slash commands or any other insider tools which give an unfair advantage. 6.The CCP ships will be strong and the use of pirate implant sets or other enhanced implants will be used. 7.CCP will engage in some friendly smack but will not respond or engage in any smack which is considered obscene, racist or sexist under any circumstances.
So what is this all about? Well we want you guys to have fun. Many times we have seen requests from players for more live events which are not centered around the Sansha incursions. We are taking this opportunity to bring a fleet for you to fight, or assist if you so desire. Yeah right!
We understand that many of our players love to fight so there is every chance that you will obliterate us in quick time. If that happens, be sure to check our wrecks for some very valuable loot. There will be plenty in our cargo.
If you have any questions, please let us know in this thread and we will do our best to answer them.

I'ts not like the Aurora Program wasn't a mechanism for showering gifts on the Role Player Of The Month at all.... oh wait.... Well.... maybe CCP is the first leopard that changed it's spots. But somehow I really doubt it.
Gavjack,
I know that you and I have not always seen eye to eye but I promise you that I value you, just like everyone else, as a member of this EVE commmunity.
So let me address a couple of things so that everyone can quote me on this
Our aim with this event is to create a fun environment that we can all enjoy. Sure, we could role in with a bunch of uber ships which would destroy a supercap fleet with no losses but where is the fun for you, as players, if that were to happen? Honestly, there is no fun in that.
What will happen is that you will face a CCP Dev fleet who will fly the same ships you do with the same tech II loadouts that you fly. Perhaps we will get obliterated in minutes and perhaps we wont. What we want is for you guys to bring it and we will fight to the last man.
There is where the fun lies. We will have tech II fits but some cool loot in our cargo.
Our Operations team have reinforced several different nodes for us so that we can decide where is the best venue to bring it. We are not going anywhere to drop loot to what anyone else percieves as our 'freinds'. We have no friends for this event and our guns will prove that.
Now you can quote me on that, I promise CCP Navigator -Community Manager |

The clock is ticking, Sentient, and the fleet is en route. I am truly sorry if you expected results immediately after the announcement but part of the event is in the build up.
Have no fear, the fleet will arrive as promised

I think that what at least some of us were asking for was events that actually have some impact on the Eve story rather than a bunch of devs wandering around shooting stuff.
The EVE storyline has not been forgotten and story events work is ongoing. I can assure you of that.
I'm sure you'll also understand that story events require a deeper level of planning and perhaps consider that events of the kind this thread deals with help in developing wider experience with the mechanics of events within CCP. CCP Delegate Zero | Content Editor |

I believe some people will be using fraps but I am not 100% certain about those details We really need a video and a battle report for people that don't have access to fleets and comms and ops and just plain 'ol can't participate in something like this. Video and battle report please.
Ok, let's see what we can do

I absolutely didn't understand a single word of that sentence. I'm serious.
Delegate Zero is saying that events which impact the lore of EVE require special planning and a lot more intricacy than a bunch of Devs getting into combat ships and going toe to toe with players.
The lore specialists will get to look at this event and see what went well, what went badly and what they can improve for the next time they need to change the actual backstory of EVE.
I hope that answers your query

Oddsodz wrote:WARNING. Long and boring after action report for the DEVS with notes to help save some butt hurt from carebears and the likes for next up coming events like this
Let me say that this was dam good fun.
Thank's to all involved.
Things to note
1 - Don't fill your cargo full of nice loot. Why? Well for the most part. The "1st in Jita fleet" was mostly full of highsecers. So stealing (well sort off) to them is not in there nature. Now don't get me wrong. I Love loot. But what I saw was a lot of "Pubbie" in the fleet just for the trill of getting in on a big fleet and shoot down some DEVS. So they held to the job at hand of shooting the DEV fleet. So the "Pubbies" did all the hard work only to get ripped off by the sneeky looters. Seems a bit unfair to me for "Pubbie" to do all the hard work for some sneaky low/null sec player to get all the goodies. So for the future I would recommend a new way to reward players for taking part in such events. Maybe with some sort of Loyalist points or something. I will let you figure that one out lol. I Know, "Eve is real". And I am not to bother about it myself. But from all the event channels I was reading. Many a player was not happy. Seems the only players to get paid today was the big alliances. So next time. Don't fill up on loot. It makes a sad carebear. (lol I know right. All the tears lol)
2 - Cyno jam the system. Nothing kills the fun faster than a few big alliances doping the Supercaps and Titans. If they want to come join in/flight. Make it on the terms that the highsec pubbies/cearbears can play at.
3 - Don't take so long to deploy. Well this is a bit of silly complaint to make really. No other alliance/corp advertise that they are going out to kill. So why am I complaint about you doing it? Well 24 hours is to vague a time frame to wait on for such a event. Make that time frame smaller and then the carebear in me will not go mad about sitting up all night waiting for the intel to roll in about where and when.
4 - Don't run home to mommy so soon ;-) Reship and move on to a new region so everybody can have a go. I Am sure there will be a few players around who world have missed out on this great bit of fun due to being in bed with kangaroos.
5 - DO THIS MORE OFTEN PLEASE.
6 - Just in case you missed it above. DO THIS MORE OFTEN PLEASE
So with that. I will say thank you for reading. The event was great fun.
Really nice feedback, Oddsodz. We will definitely look at the event and analyze what went right, what went wrong and how we can improve it for the future.

That was a loot item in cargo and not fitted
In regards to the ship fittings, we simply got together some rough fits on 24 hours notice for 70 people. With Crucible defects being fixed around the clock we had one person doing all of the fits so that the rest of the Devs could focus on making sure that Crucible remains our primary focus.
You can expect different fits, and probably entirely different ships, when this escalates

NereSky wrote:Did you get what you hoped from this excercise Navigator ?
For the most part, yes. The main aim of this event was twofold - could we run an event on short notice that would energize players and give them a fun experience as well as seeing how a CCP fleet would operate when under mass attack?
We got a lot of information from the event and a lot of feedback across multiple threads and other forums which will help us greatly when preparing for future events of this nature. We hope that more players can get involved next time but you guys must also realize that there are restrictions we must operate under. For example, we cannot announce a staging area and time in advance otherwise thousands of people will show up and potentially crash the server which makes a fun event a non event.
We also need to ensure that there is better balance in our fleet and we will also look a lot more closely at the loot which is dropping. The feedback so far from players who participated is that they were not that interested in the loot and were just much more interested in the good fights.
Anyway, stay tuned for more news, blogs and info about what is in store for the future and thanks again to everyone who showed up, took part and took their losses with good grace. You were true sports
