Been playing over a year now... My tip...
Read as much as you can, either here or on other forums... Everything you might want to try to do has been done by someone else already. Why not learn from their mistakes rather than make them again all by yourself! ..
And always keep an eye on local for people who might want to shoot you!

This thread needs to die. While it was once extremely helpful, the info is now so out of date it will likely do more harm than good.

I would have to agree, there are some things in here which elaborate on items pointed out in the players guide, but which are not explained in detail in the players guide.

irl 1 AU (Astronomical Unit) is the distance from the Earth to the sun. so roughly 93 million miles. (i do hope i get this right and dont look a complete tit) so that equates to very roughly 150 million KM or 150,000,000 km. the distance you stated of 2 Billion KM is equal to roughly 13.3 AUs. like i said thats IRL (if i have remembered my numbers right) so i dont see why CCP would have any reason to change it. :P
93 million miles verified. You are dead on. This equates roughly to 149.668 million km = 1 AU (Astronomical Unit for those who dont know). Dont try to travel across systems at sub warp speed! To go 1 AU at 500m/s (a frigate with reasonable 1MN afterburner), it would take 3470 days!!

after reading through here and trying many of the tips, nearly every one is still valid and usefull, so i dont know how it could be said that this is out of date....
should definitely be stickied...
To the people who right click to target and approach, i find it easier to select the items on the overview....when you are close enough to target it, a target icon will pop up on top for you to click

Tips for trading in commodoties:
1. Make sure to buy low. (check the region sales to see if it's a good buy)
2. Make sure to sell high. (Check region again to see what you can sell it for.
3. Do the math to see what kind of return on the investment you will make to see if it is worth it.
(And Most Important) 4. Double check the size of the commodity you are buying to see if it will fit in your ship. What should have been a 4 jump trip to sell 1200 construction blocks turned into a 48 jump trip because I can only load 100 blocks on my ship at a time. Definitely not worth the 100k return on the investment when you fdigure in the time spent jumping.

Before travelling through low sec space always pull up the map and set it to "ships destroyed in the past hour." This will save millions of ISK. Two sentry guns can be woefully ineffective agaisnt the right group of ships camping the gate.

Edited by: Nikolai Zukov on 31/01/2006 14:42:19 Great thread, only saw a couple of out of date things.
For the fellow asking how to reload the turrets all at once, right click any weapon while in space, and select "Reload All". It will reload al your weapons, including missile launchers, with whatever ammo they were using before.
Always, always, ALWAYS reload all after each wave of NPC pirates, etc. Someday you will be in deep trouble and hear "A module has run out of ammunition" and watch helplessly as it takes ten seconds (and your life) to reload the guns with ammo.
DO the tutorial, including the 8 part agent tutorial afterwards. It answers many questions, pays well, and you get a nice implant at the end (mine sold for 1.77 million ISK, not bad for 4 hours into the game!). Use the time while in the tutorial to train your Frigate Skill to level 2.

Yes to point 4!
I though I was being clever last night when I saw 9000+ holoreels on sale with another station in the same system buying them for 30 ISK more. Now I have 5000 (over 1m ISK worth) sitting in the station because I've only got a Rifter and can only move 240 at a time. (Glad someone else did it too!)
Another tip: If you're on an agent mission, you don't have to open up the mission description to warp to the mission location. If you right-click on empty space, any mission-related locations will appear in the menu, allowing you to warp to them. This also applies to warping to the agent's home station once you return to the system. I used to always open the people and places tab to find the agent's home station before I discovered this.
I *think* this only works when you're in the right system - i.e. you still have to open the mission description to program the autopilot for what system to jump to.

Skill books , When You got like 6 of them, dont risk traveling with them Train them each for about 10 seconds. No worry about losing them if ganked, plus if you bust ratting you dont have to go to the station to get another book to train, just start training the next unfnished skill. |

This might seem obvious, but: If you're looking for something, but you can't find what section it's under in the market, search for it.
When you find it in the search window, click on it, then at the top of the market detail window it gives you the drill-down path so you can find it in future from the main Market screen.

My tips, especially for Minmatars:
DO NOT fire your autocannons until you know you are within range, you're just wasting ammo. Always know what your range is for your cannons with what ammo type and adjust your "orbit" and "keep distance from". Adjust to be about 50-100m under for hunting small fast rats and drones as they are always moving out of your opt. range, their transversals are high.
Also don't forget to have the Reggae jammin loud pon de system.

re: Autocannons
Read the Turret Tracking Guide in the Player Guide, it's a great read. Put you autocannon stats in there, and check it against a 40m signature with a transversal equal to your top non-AB speed. That range is going to be the most damage output for your guns. If you're target is counter-orbitting or moving at all you will actually end up farther away than your default orbit range, but his increased speed pushes your optimal range farther back anyway, so it will still keep you pretty close to your best gun range.
If you don't need to avoid incoming fire badly, then use Keep At Range instead of orbit, and set the range to your Optimal Range. When you have very low tranversal velocity (sideways motion between you and target) like chasing someone or head-on, your guns will be very effective out to Optimal Range, and still pretty effective from Optimal + 1/2 Falloff. Anyway, the max range you should really fire your autocannons is Optimal + Falloff range; at this range, with no transversal velocity, you have a 50/50 chance to hit. It plummets from this range out to Optimal + (Falloff * 2).
Use afterburners to get into range, but turn them off once your there, to cut down your transversal. But if you get in trouble, pop those burners on and orbit your target at a range that lets you keep top speed. You are very hard to hit moving that fast, and it can buy you some time vs turrets that are tearing you up.
