TBH as far as companies go blizzard are pretty good. They had excellent support for all their other games, with free online play. EG: Diablo, diablo 2, warcraft 3.
WoW was a big let down...
Other reasons:
-Players of all ages can viably group together
-Solo or small group play is an option
-You don't have to plan your mission a week in advance and make sure 39 other friends are on.
-There is some actual risk involved.
-I play eve.

Top 10 reasons why WoW is better than Eve
10. You can have a Diablo pet. ZOMG!
9. You don't need 17 alts to get anywhere
8. NO T2 LOTTERY!
7. There isn't one race that's head and shoulders above all the others
6. PvE is good, and has a point
5. Manual character control, not point and click nonsense
4. Has a PvP ranking system, however bad it is
3. DPS and survivability isn't the be all and end all of your character
2. Skill > Numbers
And the number one reason:
1. It. Has. Taurens. HOOF!
Bare in mind I can't stand Wow, but just to point out, there are two sides to every coin :)

I played EVE when it first came out and eventually got bored of it after about 3 months. I played WoW for over a year. EVE has politics, a dynamic player revolved persistent world, a good PvP system a well developed economy and a learning curve high enough that most players I don't want to be playing with are turned off from the game.
The biggest problem with MMOs is the lack of player involvement in the dynamics of the world. That is EVE's strongest point and why after 3 years I'm back playing EVE again. I regret ever leaving. I had my hopes up for PvP, Blizzard promised PvP. They gave us capture the flag instead. When I kill someone I want to know they died.

Nice region, we'll take it... for longer than 24 hours, actually.
There's no "best setup", just different kits for different tasks. And a three month player can beat a three year player by setting up specifically for it.
No sharding.

Taking regions, actually changing the map and all that.
Altho, its also the worst (in the case of a couple of alliances anyway)

I can think of one situation where WoW is better than EVE. At least in WoW the devs dont endorse real money for game money trade just to make a few extra bucks.

Try playing the game before attacking it.
I've played both, and I obviously prefer EVE, but both games were made for different audiences, and WoW is undoubtedly the top "Fantasy" MMOG in existance, currently.
EVE is targeted towards Sci-Fi lovers, WoW is targeted towards... simpletons

What gave you the idea I hadn't played the game? 
Being 'top' in something does not make it the 'best' fantasy game. In terms of functionality/technology it set the MMORPG world back about 10 years. In terms of bringing people into MMORPGs then it's 'top' and obviously well marketed.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak.

I have played both and I found wow to be very dull after a while. Tho I did rather enjoy killing entire horde parties by ambushing them in non-instanced dungens. Or killing someone serveral LVs above me... repeatedly... I could almost hear the whiny 14 year old voice screaching "F'ing Hax0r grifer SOB! I'm gonna come to your house and kill you!"
