Hi There,
I was wondering if anyone currently does any large scale(6+ people) mining for bistot or Arkanor 10 or more jumps from a station?
If so how do you do it? ie how many haulers/miners/fighters etc how do you work? haul halfway leave at a planet for someone else to collect or haul the whole way and back?
Just interested to know how people do this at the moment.
Cheers, ----------------------- Cold Fusion Inc. Website |

Sometimes, yes.
1 battleship for cover several miners usually 3 haulers
Usually works out just fine, depending on how many miners are working--if it's more than just two or three, they start getting ahead of the haulers. ------------- My salsa makes all the pretty girls want to dance and take off their underpants. I <3 ( . Y . ) |

Depending on stability of the guy flying the battleship, you may want 2 people on defense in case one has a CTD, not that such things happen, of course.

one battleship for cover two battleships for mining 12 haulers for a 40 jump round trip minimum.
Anything else for bistot mining is a waste of time you will either have battleships sitting in empty belts or haulers lined up at the sun waiting and even then you can run into problems with small roids ect.
Leaving stuff at a planet option only works if you are all in the same corp if you have haulers running where you are paying a percentage then you will find it hard to get a hauler just to do runs from the belt to the planet ect.
hope this helps

1 BS for guarding 2 apocs with harwesters for mining then we can do it with 10 jumps aproc 3 haulers if they have good bookmarks :D

Edited by: Bobby Wilson on 07/10/2003 15:58:59 As above it depends on Bookmarks, skills, etc.
2 Dominixs can do all the mining for 7 haulers on a 10-jump trip AND provide their own cap (8 Heavy drones each, plus drone space for replacements AND 8 Harvs. I like having an NPC farming corp-mate in another belt from the miners doing a chain spawn. They are there in case there is a cap problem or a PvP threat, and they can otherwise chain for hours pausing only occasionally to have the army of indy's help them clean up their work area :)
For ops of this size investing in excellent bookmarks made by a scout in a speed-equipped BB is indeed very smart and will mean you need 15 to 30% less haulers. Also make sure that 1 of the miners is designated to watch local as well as gang (for PvP threats) while the other is designated to watch the belt as well as gang (for first-call of a NPC spawn, saves Harvesters if you have lots of notice).

10 Jumps mining for Ark.... I wish
No just bistot at the moment, 48 jump round trip scares me I can't even contemplate the amount of time that would take.
So I think that the basic consensus is that you need lots of preparation and teamwork.
1. Prepare sets of bookmarks for all parties. 2. Mine with a couple of BS that can deploy heavy drones for protection. 3. Have a corp mate chain spawning near by for emergency's. 4. Have about 5 or 6 haulers.

One Battleship for cover, eh? What happens if a Scorpion comes along and kills mentioned Battleship... you all log out?
Just curious. One Battleship doesn't seem enough.
Your 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun perfectly strikes some nublar, wrecking for 1155.0 damage. |

I'm guessing the battleship pilot would broadcast a warning and the miners would scatter.

Hmm to be perfectly honest I had not considered PVP at all. Being a miner I was only thinking along the lines of NPC rats.
But on the other hand rats aren't going to get much profit out of a mining operation unless they bring there own haulers
But I suppose that you are going to need at least a couple of cruisers to back-up the battle ship then. As well as a pre-set point for everyone to warp to if you get rats warping in to knock you out.
Gah more people needed. Looks like mining ops that are any distance away require serious amounts of people.
Oh and I suppose some frigates for scouting and indy escort would be nice as well... the list goes on.
Roll on mobile refineries I say. oh and space stations. ----------------------- Cold Fusion Inc. Website |

Depending on the distance, and rate of miner.
Least amount you need is 4 players for 9-17 jump 1 way
1 BS providing cover 1 Apoc with 8 miner 2s and 5+5 mining skills (Harvies if NPC not using missiles) 2 haulers with 9k+ cargo, and doing 500+ m/s
This is the most profitable, if you have a refiner 5+5.
For good miners in BS, 2-3 haulers is a good average for 10 jump 1 way. You really need to figure out what the miner can produce, and how good your haulers are and the distance to be covered.
If you dont have good miners and haulers, than you have to do a lot of crappy work to properly mine safely and efficiently that previous posts have provided.
