I have looked at the eveinfo.com/missions database and eve-wiki.net, but I wanted to ask if there is a resource that will simply tell you how difficult the Level 3 missions are?
I am a 3 month old, 3M sp, solo Brutix pilot, and I have found out, the hard way, that I can do some level 3 missions fairly well and others I don't stand a chance. I would love to find a quick reference of what missions I should just decline before I start.
Thanks.

Read some of the back items on this topic you'll see some particular missions which have generated the most discussion and gained the most notoriety.
The only way across the board I know to guage it is - if the reward is too good to be true, it is. You can pretty exactly tell what you're in for by the size of the reward offered, once you adjust for the security level of the agents system and quality/standing with him.

Edited by: Emily Spankratchet on 31/07/2006 19:53:30 Off the top of my head, the more difficult lvl 3s include "The Spy Stash" and "The Black Market Hub". This is from my experience in a Cyclone before they beefed it up in a recent patch. And it was against Angels, the most annoying of the rats in terms of multiple damage types. I've recently tried them again with my Achura alt in a Ferox, and the Ferox's huge shield tank laughs at Caldari rats with only two damage types.
A couple of the new missions - those that share the same name with old missions but are now deadspace-through-gateways rather than warp-in missions - are signigicantly harder than they used to be. They're still okay in a Ferox, but YMMV in other ships/against different rats. You have to be careful to aggro the rats in small chunks rather than all at once (and thus be a bit careful with drones).
Edit: A rough-and-ready guide to difficulty: look at the mission reward and LPs awarded. These adjust automatically according to the time taken by players to complete the missions. High rewards mean a very long or very hard mission, more or less.

The Mordus Headhunters.
Decline that one until you have a few million SP in your gunnery, tanking, cap and fitting areas. With only 3m SP, you will die. Unless you manage to snipe both interceptors and warp out before the first aggro group kills you, at which point you will really wish you had a wingman who could tank for you.
Intercept the Pirate Smugglers.
That could be a tricky one for you. A pair of Sentry IIIs which will hit for over 100 damage and wreck for 300-400. If you can kill them within a few minutes, you may well take on the pair of interceptors and handful of cruisers which spawn after a time delay. If not, your tanking skills may not be sufficient to survive the combined damage.
If you are doing missions for Gallente, Portal to War 2 of 5 will be near-impossible with 3m SP in a Brutix. The Caldari Navy use racial jamming, and you may find yourself target-jammed. Seconds at a time of being unable to fire will be a serious inconvenience for you, as you need all the damage you can get.

Edited by: LUGAL MOP''N''GLO on 31/07/2006 23:54:25 I have minimal fighting skills and have never popped in a lvl 3. Only had to warp out once (forget the mission, but it was one that was changed). Passive tanked ferox, shields rarely drop below 50%. I have drones V Drone interfacing at IV, and only a couple hundred thousand points in Missiles. BCU II's help with that. I never turned down a mission from the day I started running them and have never not finished on either.
On the flip side, I have friends that have more fighting skills than me that have had 5+ ferox's popped in lvl 3's. For one of them its completely related to his computer as he lags up so hard he doesn't see anything but the same thing that was on the display 5 minutes prior. Others have trouble perhaps because they don't anticipate. ALWAYS fit for what you're fighting. One time I went into a battle with the wrong shield hardner and got a whoopin' real fast.
As long as you know what to look out for you will be fine. I usually lock 2 cruisers and 2 frigs, let the drones work the frigs and take out the cruisers with heavies. If the drones are having trouble cuttin through the tank, I'll give that frig a volley when I'm done with the cruiser.
Don't get careless and go, ahh this mission is slow, I'll drop a shield extender (plate in your case) and fit a AB. Take your time. Really the only mission I fit an AB on is Angel Ext. cause suprisingly its easy, and also because there are some towers with loot that are quite a ways out in some of the rooms.

Thanks for the helpful advice. I wish there were such a thing as Level 2.5 missions....There is such a big difference from too easy level 2's to too hard level 3's. |
