No matter what either side says about who won and who lost, it was a fun month (except for the whole "hey module lag is approaching 5 hours now I'm starting to think the entire node crashed" thing). I know we'll be seeing you guys again.

I enjoyed the Cloud Ring battles when they weren't so laggy, and gained a lot of experience. Each new endeavour that Goonfleet and Goonswarm has embarked upon has led to expected and unexpected fun. You cannot have fun without enemies, and D2 & allies have provided that. I suppose it could be sort of like burning all the bridges, preventing some goons to leave the fight in syndicate and return in empire, but tha's only a guess...

Congratulations to D2 on the win. The win was fair, though the lag was not. Sadly, we all suffered that too much.
For all the mudslinging that went back and forth on the forums leading up to this fight I'd like to say that D2 accomplished what they set out for and mostly with grace, so for this I respect them.
Thanks for the crash course in conquerable living. We'll see you again soon.

I suspect it might be so we can have fights that aren't horribly lagged to death, battles anywhere, but now sense we're not fighting for a region we can fight how we like to. In newbie frigs and t1 frigs screaming incoherantly into TS and exploding.
We all need to blow off some steam eventually, this has been a long time coming.
Thanks for the fights that weren't horribly lagged or broke the whole damn node.

I will never forget the 1st week in XZH. The most furious fleet battles that I ever seen, and most probably will remain like that for a long time. I really enjoyed every second during that 1st week and the amount of losses for both sides was awesome.
Only for that week I thank goonies, then the Pos war and the politics started to spread and fun was gone. Fun could have returned during Goons last offensive but the lag screwed everything

Unfortunately they put us in a position where we had to attack or lose sovereignty, and when the planned time of our major attack rolled round the system crashed repeatedly and BoB declared on us, scaring off many of those who had signed on for the attack. It was a lousy way to end a campaign for which thousands of goons worked their guts out. Still, D2, and especially E-R, put up an excellent fight. Luck is always a factor, but it swings both ways. Had we been clearly stronger than them luck wouldn't have made the difference, as it did at the final moment.

Look, we have a whole lot of alliances to fight all at once, not to mention these blasted VCBees incessantly bumping us and demanding that we "giev missl" (what the christ?). Agreed. The first week was fantastic, and certainly the most fun I've had in this game so far, and I suspect, the most fun I'll ever will have in eve.
The one event that I'll especially remember is the final dread-siege you did that first weekend. The one where we had the ospreys charging the POS-shield on the other side of the POS for the first time. Despite the lag it was unbelievably epic.
The chat-windows spammed with "WHAT'S THE SHIELD AT??" "WE NEED MORE OSPREYS!" "It's staying at 27%, it's not moving down anymore!"
And then finishing the night off with the desperate suicide-charge on the dreads, downing four of them. Truly an awesome siege. Well, for us anyway. Old Ironsides will have a special place in all goons' hearts forever. (The first POS that we put up in xzh was nicknamed Old Ironsides after surviving against all odds, time and time again.)
In the end we lost the war, there can't be any arguing away from that. Thanks for the good fights.

A great month, thanks alot for everything D2+RZR+YW and everyone else in the North, and you earned this win through alot of hardship on your own end with the civil wars raging and all of the other drama. Took alot of tenacity.
It sucks neither side got the exclamation mark at the end of the campaign. I was all pumped up to stay up all weekend and have epic battles... and instead we get a crashed grid on the first engagement when time was critical. Sigh. At least we had a few hours of 'stuck in an elevator' time to gain some respect for each other.
You guys gotta admit though, we surprised you a little bit, didnt we? Seea again soon, i hope.

I'm still convinced the POS code has a memory leak or something. I find it way more than coincidental, that the 40 minute lag happens to appear right around a massive spamfest of POSs, when the fights had been fine, and fun, previous to that.

We fought for control of a gate one time and I suddenly fell in love with PvPing. It was awesome and I was so pumped when I blew up an Indictor and podded the pilot. My reaction was:
omg Omg OMG OH MY GOD *pod explodes* YES!!!!11111one
I was so pumped. Cloud Ring was awesome! We were evicted, but we had a wicked time up there and if you can't enjoy the fun, why pew pew?

I usually avoid posting here, but I just wanted to chime in and say that I had a blast during this campaign. There was crippling lag affecting both sides, but there was enough fun to overcome that. It's dissapointing that everything ended with the system locked for 8 hours, but I'm sure that there will be more fights in our future. Good job to everyone involved.

Ironically, I think one of the most fun moments was BSing with everyone in local after XZH went out of its mind. Otherwise it was indeed a great time, and the fact that the station was renamed the Sesfan Appreciation Station, if only for a short time, I see as a major victory
Salute to D2, despite all the back and forth between us about lag and petitions and what not, the battles themselves were clean and enjoyable. Here's hoping we can do it again in a few months

Congrats D2. Fighting in XZH has been fun because you were actually willing to fight. Before, living in Syndicate (or even in Outer Ring) nobody wanted to engage us. It became boring. And even though I've personally lost a lot of money in the XZH campaign, fighting against you made it worth paying $15/month to play this game. Cheers and congratulations to all of your efforts. Hope to engage you guys again some day. :)

Went there for the first couple of battles, then moved out in a pod It was great fun, especially because the initial attack was put together in smth like 3-4 hours without any planning. It was a brave move, smth u dont get to see very often these days. The goons went there for the fun, even they didnt expect to hold it that long no matter what diplomats and FCs say. Economics and especially logistics, as I predicted a couple of weeks ago when it looked like D2 were "losing". 30 POS in two nights is not something that happens by itself ;)
(Also, WRT the "we couldn't counter-attack because of the lag", the GS/SMASH capital work the night before that (Thursday? Friday? I lost track) was underwhelming even without the lag. You guys put up a good fight, and it was smart getting SMASH involved, but it never really looked like you were going to win anything that weekend - the lag just made things slightly easier and probably cheaper for D2 et al)

To answer your question, we are heading back to Syndicate, having loads of fun, generally blowing off steam after an extended siege. We have a few people to deal with down there, but it is not a problem.
To respond to your allegation, we were perfectly capable of holding the station. I think D2 will agree that almost every assault, in our off-peak hours, was repelled. We lost because D2 bought the system, putting up over 40 large towers, something we were not prepared to financially counter.
Our military counterattack stalled because the node died for 8 hours, and BoB started roaring on the forums causing our allies to flee. Sadly with our support dropping out in the 11th hour, and losing an entire days worth of preparation, our counterattack never really got started. Nobody can say for sure how it would go.
As for the siege itself. It was definately fun, and a great learning experiance. We went in not really knowing how POS warfare works, and quickly learnt with a bit of trial and error how Sov is calculated, how POS's are setup and how to effectively attack and to defend them.
We have walked away with valuable experiance and a lot of battle hardened newbies. We may have lost one war, but we are a long way from being defeated.

Cheers for the fights folks, it was a damn fun place to be. After spending a few weeks in Outer Ring watching most NORAD kids play station commander it was awesome to have people who regularly engaged, even in some cases when wildly outnumbered.
I got to have my first go at FCing as well, which was such a complete and total failure I had to promise everyone there that I will stay as a grunt for the rest of my EVE career.
"Haha ok guys this retard in a vexor has engaged me, warp to Draven Stone at 15" "Warp to Draven Stone at 15" "Warp to Draven Stone at 15" "Two more hostiles just showed up at 150k, how many are in warp?" I don't see the server on any of your Dread lossmails!
The fact of the matter is, you attacked our POS on numerous occasions with dread fleets. Almost every time you did this, you were forced to withdraw before our POS was reinforced, usually with dread losses. This is called repelling an assault.
You cannot seriously expect to have a fight involving at least 200 people without any lag, and even if you did you would have learnt after the first time what to expect. There is a point where lag is to be expected, and by committing your forces to the fight anyway you lose the right to dispute the kill becauseof lag.

the fact that you lost every bigger fight in XZH despite the POS assaults, that we killed your 54 bubbelcamp with a few BS and support, getting about 150killmails, loosing 6 of ours. How you dare to say that you achieved anything military?

True. Although certainly not very entertaining for both sides, building towers and therefore outspending the enemy if you will is a perfectly legitimate part of modern territorial warfare. At the end of the day victory is what counts. Not so much how "beautifully" you achieved it. ---

While trying to avoid the obvious bait, I believe there is some merit in considering fleet composition and systematic strugglers when withdrawing a 2000+ member alliance from a region. Valuable lessons were learned through trial and error. All things considered, I'm content with our performance. :)
Many thanks to D2 et al for the great fights. You've gave this newbie a few tips on living without a station and how exciting defending a dread assault can be. Hope to see you again soon!

I see what you did there.
Morale was fine, we were far from helpless, it was a string of unfortunate circumstances that caused our 'big push' to fall flat on its face.
Stop trying to devalue our acheivements with your propoganda. Almost everyone else in this thread is supportive, apart form the BoB troll who started this, and two or three D2 members who still refuse to acknoledge that we are capable of acheiving even a single victory against you.

Military you achieved nothing against us.
Tactically you failed all goals which you set to yourself. Everyone who supported you failed or got destroyed.

What now for the defeated goons. Well, we will probably post a few more congratulations in the thread while third parties troll us.
Why can't you just understand? You are bad people.. bad bad bad people. For all that is holy, every man who is a lover of freedom and righteous goodnes, join hands and drive these goons out. The inviolability of EVE must be saved. All hail those who spearhead this cause.
oh seriously <3 GS, I look foward to continually fighting along side you in the future. You are nothing but a fun group of capable people who don't take this game toooo seriously.. with a few overly twisted ones mixed in.. but that isnt bad out of 1000's.
Congrats to D2 and friends on the victory for C-R. Props to those on both sides who play the game for enjoyment, could joke around a little bit about the lag situation local, and apparently not think of the other side as mere filthy dogs or some such thing. ______________________________________________

Would it calm some frayed D2 nerves if I were to admit, freely and without reservation, that we lost those towers up in Fade because we were unable to project the necessary defence/repair forces that far from XZH? Not everything that went wrong for us was lag. Lag was, however, definitely a significant factor in the failure of our final assault. It was make or break time, because D2 established firm supremacy in the POS war, and in the end make turned to break because lag made it impossible to accomplish anything that weekend.

I think that image might be more suiting in your corner. You see D2 actually gained territory in this whole ordeal, you however I dunno where we will find on the next map.

Goons arguing with d2 in this thread are making me sad.
We lost the system and they won, congratulations are in order - I know I had some excellent fun up there. That's all that needs to be said.

So then I take it you agree with the contention posed that GS achieved nothing militarily?

First,
To all D2/RZR/several other alliances I don't even recognize, it was awesome fighting. It's very easy to spot in this thread who was present and who was not by their responses here. As others have said, was good chatting in local with you guys during the coma of XZH.
As for you...

The true words of someone who just wasn't even there. Please go away and leave the more intelligent and participant members of your alliance to this thread.
We held sovereignity over space for the first time ever in this game. We had a metric crapton of fun (so that you Euros can understand how much it was), blew up some of the best "known" pilots in this game, killed over a dozen capital ships, and sieged many a POS. Which part of this wasn't a military or tactical victory for us?
Nobody who supported us got destroyed. Our allies also had a ton of fun there. If you are referring to Sparta, well, that was a shame, but that was not them supporting us, that was us attempting to support them. It is a shame that we failed in doing so, and a mighty alliance collapsed, but that had nothing to do with our fight in CR.
Just as we have our members who make us look bad, there is you, Nafri. I'd like everyone on every side of this conflict to stop and take a look at that name and remember it. YOU are one responsible for it on the D2 side. You are the troll, the one who diminishes the reputation of your alliance and their allies, the one who makes people hate them.
Do C-E and D2 a favor and stop posting, stop talking, or even better, stop playing.

Edited by: Phobos Ra on 03/08/2006 15:33:41 Before this thread gets locked because of silly arguments, I just wanted to pop in and say thanks to D2 for binging a really excellent fight. Lag is much like weather in real wars, and unfortunately we just couldnt handle the storm as we were. You guys did great and congrats on now owning Cloud Ring!
Edit: vvv: we get lost easily :(

Militarily we achieved every objective set out, those being to have fun, possibly kill some dreads, try our hand at PoS warfare and try and keep sovreignty over a reigon.
Tactically the only goal we failed as far as I can see is the 50+ bubble gatecamp, our numbers were simply not strong enough to reinforce it as was hoped.
The simple facts are, we managed to take and maintain a claim over a reigon for a significant amount of time against D2's opposition, D2 (and allies, I say this because they are deserving of respect too) eventually won the system due to a combination of greater economic might, greater experience and (I imagine it's a key factor) greater skills.
We had such a great time in CR, we really did. It was a total accident being there in the first place and honestly, I don't think we could have enjoyed ourself more. We're hoping to come back at some point, but not only do we now have more combat hardened pilots, we know more exactly what is required to take a reigon.
The problem I think a few D2 people have understanding our position is they're too used to warfare, they count ANY withdrawl as a total loss, but to us it was partially expected from the start. Any victory, ANY dreadnaught kill for us is a bonus, but just being in CR is all we want. Hell how often do you get to conga line a bunch of pods through an enemy POS?

This is a pretty long post so I'll bring it to an end and say this: PLEASE stop arguing about dreadnaught kills vs PoS kills vs lag vs system breaking. We can all agree that the standard lag, even the PoS guns shooting 16AU 40 mins after the battle started was nothing like what happened when the entire node died, we literally sat there slowly drifting away in space with NO local system action for over 5 hours.
Thanks to everyone for all the fun in CR, I can't wait till we can do it again with hopefully less lagging and less need to buy the system.
Later dudes :)

Hey guys we really needed another arguement thread! The people who are falling for flame bait are just as stupid as the trolls. Before you click the "quote" button and type out your 5 paragraph rebutal just sit back and realize you are completely wasting your time. These threads accomplish nothing, no ones opinion gets changed, they do absolutely no good. It is much more effective to just ignore the trolls and let them to make their corp/alliance look bad.

Come now. As a Frenchman you must appreciate that one should not rush through life from one big quest to another without pausing to smell the missls^Wflowers on the way.
We might stay on holiday for another week or two, but could I impose on you to water the crokite for us while we're gone? Just once every sunday after downtime or so, and it should be fine.
