They could, but they'd rather not risk their assets. Goonswarm could well do so because they are 'different' in their approach to the game, so people have used the excuse of 'that' signature to drive them out of the game. The irony being they are doing exactly what the signature depicted. The signature itself may have been a sick sense of humour, but to manipulate the incident in this way is actually cold calculated and evil. I don't want to spend the next 5 years in this game with BoB on top, never challenged with all potential candidates removed from the game long before they bloomed to full potential. Bitter? The powers that be have no intention of allowing these people to play the game when one day they could threaten them. So, in order to get the bandwagon rolling several people feigned indignation at the use of a certain signature on another forum. A brilliant political move even if it does crap on the poor mans memory, obviously the powers at be are more interested in their virtual assets and their virtual position in an online game. The guy in question was kicked from his alliance and apologised after removing the offending signature no-one outside his alliance was expected to see. None of this matters in a cut-throat game when you have an agenda to pursue . I've seen too many online games destroyed by its own community driving out all "noobs" and people who don't match their expectations, it truly hurts me to see the elites doing it again here and now. This isn't about Goons not fitting in, it's about asset protection and domination. All the top alliances enjoy relative peace as they only need fear attacks from each other and they know by common consent that that will never happen. This cannot be applied to the goons and their mentality of playing the game, they attack stations and regions on a whim and consequently the top alliances have no intention of allowing them ever to attain a position where they could be a threat. Forecasts for the future is very little action at the top level and plenty of mind numbingly smug threads filled with BoB chars reminding us how great they are, even if the character saying it has never done anything great in the game at all. Right or wrong I'd take a goon thread over that any day. Fortunately I've never played WoW so maybe that's why I don't feel the same. I've witnessed in channels D2 avoid BoB gangs of 10 camping ISS stations for over a week do exactly that. I for one would have liked to have seen a big proper fight between the top alliances from time to time, but with the vendetta against goonswarm for bringing something new to the game that's now very very unlikely to ever happen. I can't see any changes happening now at the top for years. As I said earlier - BoB is just a retirement home for veterans who wish to pirate with comparative impunity. I just started a few months ago and mostly prefer to quietly mine, mission and pretend to be an industrialist. My little laptop can't support much more than that anyway, even if I were inclined to do more, which I'm not really. But I enjoy reading the threads, and I like the energy the Goonswarm people seem to have. The posts are generally pretty funny and well-written, and they have a certain flair which is good to see. I guess that's lucky, considering the volume with which they post. Sometimes annoying and immature, sure, but so are plenty of non-Goonswarm, who can also be ponderous and heavy-handed. So anyway, I hope the Goonies are not driven from the game, and that everyone can figure out a way to have fun and play without too much smackage. (A little smack can be fun, but it's easy to go too far.) P.S. Are the SomethingAwful people in any way connected to the notacult/flowers of happiness pvp guilds in EQ? Remember Fansy the Famous Bard?
