I get these adrenaline rushes in tight PvP, regardless if I am about to win, or lose. And it makes my hand-eye-coordination a bit iffy, as my body is not really setting up to handle precision-clicking and/or scroll through menus to warp out and back in (for instance), but taking a hit to the face, or getting physical wounds (hence blood-flow goes to only vital parts of the body).
How do you guys deal with that (if you have the same thing). Cause I can just imagine what would happen if you weren't exposed to the adrenaline. (You'd actually manage to target eg. a pod, and not a drone sitting dead in space, and scrambling that).
OK, I am probably humiliating myself here, but wth. SOMEONE has to experience similar "issues".

I'd say pretty much everyone experienced that when they first started PvP.
You get used to it after a while, and sometimes when it's a real tight situation, you find yourself laughing to yourself when it comes back.

Glad to hear it, how do you deal with it? Or do you accept it as a part of the experience, and are not bothered by misclicks and stuff like that?

I fly around, doing some rats, 3bs 3cruiser spawn if I recall correctly in raven tanked for ristas. when one bs left in comes a... rupture, now who is it? Oh... its an unknown, fuu didnt check local o well, probably nothing we are all friends out h... damn hes locked me...
Destroyed the rupy and warped away from the bs and cruses with 24% structure... my breat and vision was very... focused. I felt alive again, its been so long since I was blessed with that rush.
Basicly, the fact loss is LOSS in Eve makes things much more real than for instance wow where the best you can get is a bit excited that you chained 3 players in stranglethorn ;-)
How I handle it? With a big old grin and after the above occasion since I hadnt had a rush in long and was just on the third day of a smokebreak(Yeah, you call it break and not stop to not get caught up over the word Stop) with going out for a walk and lighting a ciggarete and doing a jolly dance in the rain
Thank you CCP for making a game which makes me feel ^_^

You adapt to it to a point, but the rush you get will still make you feel shaky and maybe a little disorientated. You'll easily forget something you're supposed to do in combat that your rational, logical side will remind you about after the fight.
For me, the "worst" part is the anticipation of combat, when you commit yourself to the attack, feels like my heart will burst out of my chest

No, your not alone. It doesn't just happen to me in EVE, but in all PVP games. Ironicly, in fights/matches I KNOW i'll lose or I know the odd's are against me im STONE COLD.
It's the fights with emotion that give me the serious shakes. Almost to the point of dysfuctionality on one or 2 occasions. The type of fights where I KNOW I have it won against someone I dislike or respect on a emotional/personal level.
Intense fist clinches, teeth grinding, face slapping, cruel twisting of theigh flesh seem to help me. Maybe your more extreme, try kicking a small animal, maybe have small stabbing device to use on yourself. Crank it up as you see fit.

When I first started PVP'ing I got the shakes so badly that I could barely activate modules. It was stupid I'd even get it when engaging a shuttle or soemtrhing. The thought that his mates were just in the next system always had me scared. Then i carried on PVP'ing. I got over 30 kills solo and in mixed gangs and then my nerves started fading. I could now pvp almost nerve free.
Then I started taking command of gangs in my corp. The Nerves returned worst than ever, they still havent faded when I command gangs. As gang leader you have 10 times more things to think about and if u make a mistake u risk not just your own ship but your gang mates shhips.
Truth be told I Like the nerves. Sure ocaisionally they will make me do stupid things but so what. The nerves are adreneline, they mean i actually care about the fight. I dont get them from any other game, thats got to be good right?
So in short just power through them and realise they aarent necersarilly a bad thing.

Been playing since beta and I still get it although not as bad as in the early days. I tend to smoke a large join before playing so that helps.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak.

Happens to me every time I see a ship on scanner. When I activate warp to get to that belt my heart is pretty much jumping out of my chest hehe. It partially goes away when in actual combat and I find myself doing things faster and better on adrenalin

The adrenaline rush is the reason we fight. Like ian said, if it wasn't there we wouldn't do it.
As far as misclicks go, just remove everything from your overview except ships, then remove gang members/corpmates/alliance members from your overview and save the preset as 'pvp' or whatever.
After that, every time you enter combat you just activate that preset and the only things that will be on the overview are your enemies, so click at will. ----------- Join channel 'Turby' or die! (bring pie) Mission running carebears drop good loot. Probe one out today! |

i try to minimize what mistakes i might make in a given situation... keep overview clean, hide or move modules, think of what you plan to do with this victim and then just follow it tru. eventually, rush wears off abit, as you gain expirience.
thing that can help alot is, not flying something overly taxing on your wallet. when in pimped out ships that are hard to replace, possability of loss affects your judgement and makes you.. dumber. instead of thinking what you need to do next, toughts such as "oh ****, i might lose tons of isk" fly tru your head and slow down your reaction time.
finally, they say that good pvp'ers are the ones who won the battle before they engaged. so, think first, check out the situation, then attack. your mind wont go blank when you are prepared to what might happen.

We had an awesome fight the other night where about 8 of us were camped in a station with about 12 outside the station and quite a few more waiting to warp in. We undocked and pwned the all. It was a great rush, cause at first I wasn't sure we could do it and we lost 2 ships quickly, but then it all turned out way and it was just beautiful. I was laughing and shaking for about 30mins after the fight.
Having a smoke helps
Nate.

Man even at the slight *chance* might be thinking about thinking to engage something where the odds arnt heavily in my favour, makes my heart pound, and the only way I calm myself is by accepting that I've lost my ship before I lose it....
Course I go down guns blazing, but still.
I love it, the rush, risk and reward is worth so much XD

Strangely I only get it solo, even if the odds are stacked in my favour.
In a gang and the odds are against us I'm cool as ice.

I don't get it that much anymore, i used to really bad, my voice would tremble on ts and my hands would shake etc, but now it isn't as bad. lol. EVE is the only game that i've ever played that can get the adrenaline going like that... and it's not even a fast paced game. Weird..

Agreed. It's the solo pvp that still gets my heart racing. I love engaging multiple targets solo, that really gets you going. And yeah after playing for over 3 years, pvp'ing for at least 2 of them is till get the rush. only time you don't really get that is in fleet combat. that gets kinda boring after ur 100th battle :(. Odd thing is i have like 10-15 bs and can replace the mods easily so losing a bs wouldn't really bother me too much but i still get the rush as if it were my only ship left.

I'm still feeling the rush, but after a couple of hundred fights, it's a different one. Not so much the rush of just being in a fight, but more the rush of 'managing' the fight. My first battles where pretty much: 'approach, lock, activate weapons / mods, start shaking untill someone dies'. Having a little experience now, the adrenaline works for me, not against me, as I tend to look closely at my range, transversal and cap, fly mostly manual, keep an eye out on potential escape vectors, using my drones and switching them around if needed, pinging my scanner and watching local to see if any more people join in, etc. Only back at a safe waiting out the aggression timer I got time to notice I'm excited.

It's all about the stakes. Raise them unexpectedly, or take on new, untested partners and it becomes harder to get into Angel of Death mode.
It's not about how good you are, or how good your wingmates are, or their setup. It's about feeling out what their implicit habits are.
If you cannot hear the chorus, the Valkyries are not with you.

That's interesting - I'm more or less the same
Get a much bigger rush solo than in a gang -
To the OP - why would you want to do anything about it? It's the whole point of pvp for me, try and enjoy it ;)
