I really don't get all the people say Electrons > Neutrons. I've used both quite a bit, and honestly, the electron dual rep setup just can't keep up with the damage the neutrons give out. The only way to tank them is to have excellent resists a la faction gear (which is why Farjung did so well). ------------------------------------ It's great being a Dev, isn't it? |

Depends on the ship type and whether ur solo or in a group.
Overall i'd say Neutrons are the most fun to use.

Basically.
DMG Neuts > Ions > Elect
Range Neuts > Ions > Elect
Tracking Elect > Ions > Neuts
Cap Elect > Ions > Neuts

Obviously damage wise and range it's: Electrons < Ions < Neutrons. But it's the opposite way for tracking and what not.
Generally people use a plated Neutron for gangs, and a more versatile repping ion setup for solo.
Neutrons are very fun though, they rip through many things sometimes before they even get past your shields. ------------------------------------ It's great being a Dev, isn't it? |

heres 2 setups, what do you think?
Solo pvp:
7 x Electrons II
1 x named warp disruptor 1 x named webber 1 x heavy cap booster 1 x 100mn mwd
2 x LAR II 3 x active hardeners II (kin, therm, exp) 1 x EANM II 1 x CPR II
reason for the cap power relay is becausee i dont have enough cpu for DCU II, MFS II or another EANM II. ive played around with the setup to allow the MFS using named instead of T2 and im 1.4 cpu short
Gang PVP:
7 x Electrons II
2 x named webbers 1 x heavy cap booster 1 x 100mn mwd
1 x LAR II 1 x Accom LAR (cpu problems) 3 x active hardeners II (kin, therm, exp) 1 x EANM II 1 x MFS II
obviously some1 else is doing the warp jamming, so this allows more webbage and some more damage.

I think you can fit a medium diminishing nos if you change the DC II to best named.
Though rep Megathrons are pretty much obsolete with tier 3 BS.

Tbh, that setup is way too slow. You are lucky to reach 500m/s after one run of the mwd. No DCU and no resist mod give you far less effective HP and make you deadslow with the plates.
I would say:
same high + medium nos
same med, but maybe drop the disrupter for a sensorbooster. You mostly wont tackle anything or it allready has 5 points on it... now EW thats very likely to hit you and faster locking = nice.
low: 3* 1600mm rolled thungsten 1* DCU 2 1* EANM 2 2* MFS 2
3* Trimark rig
5* beserker 2, so you deal other DPS than Kin/Therm and beserker are faster, good for catching cruisers.
LG slave set. Gives around 50 K armor with 50-60% ish resist. Moves a hell lot faster than your setup and can resist far more dps. Gives out a bit less, but because you get in range faster it turns out to be kinda the same DPS. _________________________________________________ Breetime

Not really, i tried both setups in EFT with max skills and a slave set. The diferrence was like 200 effective hitpoints for the plate setup.
I would go for the resistence setup, cause you have lower mass and if you get remote repaired, the repairs would work more effective.

what about with just 4 slots for hitpoints and does that include with implants and rigs? haven't run the figures but i'd guess a plate with FG slaves and 3 hp rigs gives more 'effective hp' as u say than say a second eanm or dmg crtrl in some cases

With 4 slots, you will achieve the best effect with 2x1600rt, 1xEANM2, 1xDC2.

Struggling to fit Ion Megathron without faction gear, this is the best I can come up with thats reasonably priced.
Highs: 7x Ion Blaster Cannon IIs w/Void
Mids: Quad LiF MWD Heavy Electro Cap Booster w/800s X5 Web Fleeting Scram
Lows: 2x LAR II Damage Control II MFS II Type-E Power Core Modification RCU (+5% PG) 2x SS EANM (same resists as T2 but for less CPU)
Rigs: 2x Armour Rep Amount 1x Armour Rep Time
Implants: -3% Turret CPU Implant (Hardwiring - Zainou 'Gnome' KZA1000)
Drones: 5x Ogre IIs
With WU5 and AWU4 it fits with 3.12 CPU left.
I get around 780dps with reasonable skills and Gallente BS 4.
Add +3% Tracking and +3% Large Hybrid damage implants pushes DPS to just over 800.

It's not possible to have both the CPU Decrease implant and the Large Hybrid Damage implant. The Hardwiring - Zainou 'Gnome' KZA1000, which is the 3% CPU decrease for turrets, goes in slot 10. The Large Hybrid Damage implant (1%, 3%, and 5%)is also slot 10. You can do the ALL turret damage implant, which takes slot 9, in conjuction with the CPU decrease, but you can't do the large hybrid damage along with the turret CPU decrease.

bait tank setup:
7x modal mega ions
1x heavy electrochem w/ 800s 1x web (whatever) 1x quad-lif MWD 1x 24k point or sensor booster II or ECCM (sitiuational)
3x 1600 RT plates 1x dark blood reactive ANM 1x LAR II 1x DCUII 1x tracking enhancerII or mag stab II
1x anti-explosive pump 1x anti-therm pump 1x anti-kintic pump
26k armor in gang with 66/63/63/70 resists. (so much for spamming explosive missiles at an armor tank)
It's really slow (800m/s, and about 2 cycles to get there), and the damage is so-so, but it's good bait.

Ive patiently read though this entire thread. Alot of people i know are good pilots saying a very split opinion on the whole Active Vs Plate tank.
Ive been told till people are blue in the face to go for a plate setup, but i hate it, i love to active tank, also its more of a low sec thing, dont want to have to wait till deaggro and rep 50k of armour every time i wana sentry tank tbh.
I can strike a balance with 1x LAR and a couple plates. I like the idea of CCC rigs, dislike using 800's for holding on the gates while im scanning...
Il say this though, The Tempest, Abaddon, *new* Geddon and Raven are very easy to fit for me, Megathron really is tight - tho tbh its the only ship id use a MWD on for obvious reasons. Found myself using Faction Adaptive plate to fill the final low.
Ive just spec'ed out in the mega, there wasnt much else turret wise for me not too; Full level 5 skills in all but spec 5, what do you think is the way forth on this ship in my situation as a low sec pvp'er?

2x 1600mm RT 3x MFS II 1x EANM II 1x Pseudoelectron Containment Field

Drones: 4x Berserker I (II if you can, of course) 5x Warrior II
Armor: 24k+ Resists: 72% 56% 56% 56%
Can be used for solo or gang. If you want a bit more tank you can take out an MFS and stick in another EANM (wich turns all the resists to 60+), but the difference is nominal (in my view) at best. No implants or faction required to fit, just decent skills. Say what? |
