Monthly costs of MMOs are chicken feed compared to the prices people pay for other entertainment. A popular comparison is Movies vs MMOs. You go watch a movie for 2 hours for $10+X for drinks/popcorn. You've almost covered that fee for the MMO and the MMO I wager you will spend over 100 hours playing during the month at least. It's $20 to buy a meal at a restaurant. I laugh at people who saying paying to play an MMO isn't worth the price.

actually atm it isnt!
I play since beta or rather pay since launch ...
i have 50.5 mill sp right now, but I dont play.
why? instas and other similar game breaking "features" ruin this game for me (and im not a pirate at all)
so if you are a carebear than yes join ...
if you are more like a hardcore player than you will really get annoyed by these "features".

That is a rather Nerdy analogy. You can't judge "value" purely by ( time / cost ). I mean you can sit at home and poke your eye with a pencil for the cost of a pencil 24/7. Is that worth the price?
I could easily get more pleasure from going out and watching one movie than I could from playing Eve for a month - and I have, often.

I came from guild wars too.
From what I can see on these forums, the biggest problem is that CCP mostly hears their customer's complaints, while arenanet listens to theirs.

To be honest, if I couldn't pay my sub with ingame cash I probably wouldn't play. Just tried logging in 5 mins ago and was greeted by horrid lag which made me log out right again. --------------- Hey, where's my portrait |

actually you could just spend the 100m isk a month and buy a time card from somebody, so there are alternative options of paying the fees.

You are correct that is why I was using movies and eating out as specific examples. For the typical gamer playing an MMO is greater in value than a movie but gamers still go to see movies and then complain about MMO fees. If a gamer will play EVE because he will enjoy EVE but the monthly fee is preventing him from playing because he doesn't think the price is worth it then I highly doubt he was going to be having fun playing EVE but rather use it as a time sink for his excuse of a life. It's only worth it to pay for something that you will enjoy and if EVE is entertaining enough to play for more then a few hours a month to most people it's about equal to a movie.
For most people who complain about MMO fees a conversation would go like this.
"Hey want to play EVE?" "Hmm what's the game like?" "Detail..." "Oh that sounds fun yeah let's play." "$20 a month." "lol no way!! I'm not paying that." "Okay want to go to a movie? "Sure." "That movie sucked." "It sure did."

You are comparing apples to oranges here
A movie isn't a MMOG and therefore has other expectations to fulfill. If you want to compare, then do compare with other MMOG's.

to consider if the subscriptions are worth it, you need to think about what the game offers you, to me eve provides a vast universe where the chance of me getting a perfect character is nothing short of a unlikely
what are you actually paying for? the servers
ive played WOW, guild wars and a few others, guild wars i spent 10 minutes playing b4 i burst into laughter and went back to playing EVE, WOW was just boring, i spent hours wondering around the same areas and PVP was the most pathetic thing ever. i spent 4 weeks playing WOW, and realised how boring it was, this coincidently happened the same time i joined my 1st corp in EVE, and corps do make a difference, it opened way more things to me than b4, and its great hanging out mining with others from the US, UK, sweden etc., whereas WOW the servers are split
i had at one stage 3 accounts in EVE, its a pity that i didnt have a pc to run all 3 or the money, but none the less i still skill up 2 of my accounts
what really hooked me to EVE, was CCP's solutions to new things, where WOW was more like all other fantasy titles, eve took on space, starwars was (at least i heard )pathetic, but eve was so diverse and with all the patches its unlikely you'd become a MASTER OF PWNAGE, besides WOW really finishes once u reach lvl 60 after that its nothing
so final thought EVE FTW!! Signature file size and dimensions to big, please keep it under 24000 bytes and 400x120 - Petwraith |

That one is really funny - beta and the UAS uprising - sounds like you are from gwonline, not guild-hall. ;)

I believe that CCP should change subscription models.
Rather than a monthly fee, they should institute a pay-per-post system on these forums.
Then HippoKing and a few others can pay for the rest of us to play.

worth every penny, if i actually paid anything it would be. aside from my initial subscription and my power of 2 alt i'm paying for everything with gametime cards. eve has more entertainment hour value per dollar/pound then any other game i know, as well as the best support/most honest company for any game i've played(i haven't played WoW). even though they arent perfect, they are a lot better then most other game companies as far as not letting their ego get in the way of informing or entertaining the players. yeah you can call me a CCP toad or something but i have only started playing 4 months ago and im still terribly impressed with them IN COMPARISON to everything else i've played.
will still draw sigs 4 isk click here |

Edited by: Nanobotter Mk2 on 07/08/2006 07:33:12 It sounds good on paper but unfortunately most of "all" those things in eve are very monotenous after a very short period of time, and the PVP is very WEAK at the moment since most of the pvp is decided by set up's and it is far to easy to warp away from a "risky" fight unless you are gonna haul around atleast 1 friend in a dedicated tackler ship and mob EZ targets ( which is weak pvp ).
I will say this the game has grerat atmosphere which will only get better, and the developer's have historically done great job on improving eve, and infact seem to be gaining a head of steam. This is the main reason i keep my account active and perserver even though the boredom of play makes my play time limited, before ZZZ.zzzz.ZZZZZ sets in.
So oddly enough i would suggest go for it, as a long term investment if your an avid gamer, get a bit of cash, and train skills and play when you feel the urge ( you really only need to play eve to make money since the leveling is auto done by simply training skills ), I am banking on the fact EVE will some day soon be a GREAT game if the developeers keep at it making the needed changes. Right now most gamers will get bored of EVE gameplay once they grasp and explore the depth of the game mechancis, it is very simple repetitive tasks ATM and the pvp is pretty simplistic for the msot part IE you will very rarely run into a solid pvp scrap where you got at it with someone, most times it is pwn or be pwned and almost all of it was predetermined by what ship and how it was fitted by both parties.
Again EVE seems to have the brightest future of all mmo's i know of and worth the long term investment because if they every get EVE finally fleshed out it will be simply AMAZING gaming experience
"why? instas and other similar game breaking "features" ruin this game for me (and im not a pirate at all)"
Well then you're a gate camper, because the only people who think inst'as ruin the game are people who like getting off on cheap kills and ill equipped for pvp ships traveling.

Hardly, because now I have three accounts.
Also, Guildwars is not a MMO, it's a multiplayer Co-Op RPG with an ingame lobby.

Seriously, this sounds like someone staring at a sandbox, and saying 'looks really boring, nothing has happened for hours'.
It's not a guided tour, you really have to look for the fun by yourself, but it is out there.. From months long scheming plans to instant "logon and have an hour of pvping/npcing".
Ok, it might not be for everyone; I'm too often having this feeling of too many people giving up Eve before they've felt the vastness and immersion.

It's so worth it I bought a second account. Many forumers I see have more than 2 accounts. I've seen as many as 6. By that perspective, I would say it is worth it. ___________________________ |

Yes it worths!
Unfortunatly these forums, general discussion and others, are full of noobs, whiners, forum *****s, that got nothing better to do and whine all day, flame and most of them have no idea about EVE. Most of players avoid general discussion forums, and go on sell/buy orders, ship setups, alliance flames, and ofcourse the coolest, Video forum. I rarely post on forums, and most of my corp members, visit sell and video forums, the rest is a just a bunch of flaming, noobish posts, and stuff, CCP should realy do something about this. It okie in WOW, but here is EVE, not a copycat BS game with greedy devs.
The best part in EVE, is the skills system, u cant play for a week, or a month, as long as u train something, so u dont have to grind like in other games. There is a small part of the grind if u do 1000 missions and complexes. I stoped to do those long time ago, now i pvp, and ocasionaly rat:P
Have fun:)
temp signature: I hate carebears that whine on forums, and have no idea about the game.

Well I have read every post and i think i'll join eve, cause i know im addicted every day I like dream of it LOL Im away on holiday and the only thing I want to do is come back home have litres of coffee play eve and **** loadz ... 1 question,is it quicker to download the game from the site or is it quicker using the proper game disc that also gives ya 30 days free ?
Cause my dads laptop wireless in cornwall takes like 50 hours 2 download the client [:S] or i can just spend a lil more and get the proper game with a new account. If yes to the proper disc how long while it take ? cause people say the patches will take me days to install !
Thnx 4 reading !
