Amongst all the players of eve there must be some true metal fans out there.. So what bands you guys into listening to/seeing? Im a big Emperor fan personally- saw their reunion gig at Inferno Fest in Norway in April, and saw them last week and Wacken Open Air in Germany. Anyone been to any decent European metal festivals that they would recommend? Into many styles of metal though; mainly black, death, thrash and power metal.. ***

What's true metal fans?
Love bands like Nightwish and Within Temptation ( not the best, but dutch like me, and not bad ) Also like Rammstein, but that's as far as it goes in terms of grunting etc. Like women voices, and preferably, understandable women voices. Rammstein for instance i can actually understand and they give awesome shows and good sound, but a lot of it I can't understand a word, and really listen for the lyrics a swell.

Well, true metal fans are usually into Manowar, Iron Maiden, Hammerfall, Edguy and so on, however I think he rather meant "real metal fans" as in beeing a real metalhead. I usually listen to Viking- (Amon Amarth, Turisas, Einherjer), Pagan- (Primordial, Drudkh, Nagelfar) and Blackmetal (Emperor, Enslaved) but most of the other stuff is fine too except for too extreme fairy power metal :o
Festivals I've visited so far this year: Rock Hard (bad lineup but only a 10 minute drive by car), Ultima Ratio (well, not really a festival except you count sleeping at the train station as camping), Dong Open Air (absolutely ******* awesome, too bad I can't remember most of it due to beeing wasted) and W:O:A (overcrowded, expensive .. meh, but I saw Emperor).

Count on a largely European game like EVE to get the metal fans.
Here in America, it's all about trashy pop music, corporate boardroom-manufactured "hip hop" and other abominations.

Edited by: valerydarcy on 10/08/2006 13:52:26 cool.. nice to see some real metalheads out there. ministry were absolutely killer at wacken- despite the first half of their set ebing off the new album (which is still awesome).
children of bodom was a bit depressing, althoughtheir set was really cool with plenty of old songs, they butchered 'towards dead end' by cutting the end of the song (the best bit) off. not to mention every time alexi opened his mouth in between tracks he sounded like a fred durst wannabe
and i am teh hardcore empeor fan!! at inferno in norway my mate an i got to the sign session 5 hrs early and i was 1st in line :DD their fan club guy bumped into me at the venure the next day and said 'hey hey- its europes biggest emperor fan!' lol - not to mention i have an emperor tattoo on my arm
i was considering an eastern european metal fest next year- they have a really underground bm/dm scene there completely different to the rest of europe/america. theres some big fests in slovenia and ukraine im looking into.. eg: http://mhm-fest.com/ru/info/
earthshaker fest in south germany seems to always have a seriously badass lineup.
edit: just announced- for all those tr00 fans:

Got my ass handed to me in the moshpit at the Children of Bodom concert, and got a big-ish laceration, but i was back in action when ministry hit the stage.
Had a great time
Edit:
Anyone going to the unholy alliance tour in erfurt in october? Slayer, In Flames and COB are a must for me.

Its sad but true. There are very few chances here in the states to really get going w/anything that isn't popified. Although, there is alwasy the yearly Headbangers Ball Tours and Ozzfest. Saddly thats about all there is.
As for me its mainly Pantera, Metalica, Damage Plan (RIP Dime) and a splatering of others here and there.
Sidenote- I feel special, for once I can say I actually listen to one of the Eruo bands listed, although the others are complete mysteries to me. Nightwish FTW

Well, I wouldn't call me a true metal fan because, you know, nowadays it would seem that I'm required to wear all black and loads of chains to even listen to metal music.
But that's material for a rant. Heh.
Aaanyways! My favorite bands in no special order.
Metal Church Judas Priest (particulary their earlier stuff) Primal Fear Iron Savior Wolf Aria Gamma Ray

Ah! Woe is me! How could I forget about combat boots!?
But seriously, WTF is up with needing to conform in a scene that's all about not conforming? I find it ******* ironic, if you know that I'm talking about.

metals not about wearing anything specific.. and if youre the type that suggests it is youre a****. admitteldy most end up resembling one guise or other, but then i suppose its just a metal thing. patch jackets for example, its not law or code- but metallers enojy sewing patches of their favourite bands onto every speare sapce of clothing possible.
Aria are awesome- russian metal 4tw seen metal church live twice- theyre pretty killer live. Judas priest i saw on a tour with scorpions last year, butit was at a pretty big venue and i always leave those occasion feeling a bit wanting- its all about the smallest venues. seen primal fear once, but foind them to be a bit generic- cool vocalist though. and believe it or not i have a wolf album- and i think youre the first guy ive met thats heard of them But yes, it is indeed all about Gamma Ray ***

Yeah, the States suck for metal, airwaves littered with this emo/screamo crap, almost painful trying to stomach that stuff as the new "hardcore". I don't listen to a lot of music anymore, still a fan of Sepultura and to lesser extent Soulfly, Slayer, Voivode (old school, never remember how to spell that), Ministry, Megadeth, old Metallica, etc. Oh yeah, I <3 Nailbomb.

marcsen sorry about never getting to you about getting together at wacken....life was just a bit too hectic.
/me was also at WACKEN 62K metalheads muhahahahahahahahaha
and no real trouble with the police.
listen to everyday: Amon Amarth In Flames Blind Guardian Korpiklaani Finntroll
among others.
Have to say the WET stage is the heart and soul of Wacken screw the big acts go for the small bands. They really really appreciate their fans.
(I was MAD AS EVER at Ministry buggers played longer than they were supposed to and Amon Amarth had a few technical problems :( )

dont complain!! ministry seriously pwnd every other band that played on friday, including cob i regret to say- aside gamma ray who pwnd every living thing in northern germany, they were deffinitely a highlight of the fest. i nearly came my pants when they played psalm 69
amon amarth were quality also.. but i felt they were lacking on stage somewhat- it may have been because it was gone 2am and my feet were ****** by that point. new album should be good..
