I did a search for this but didn't find any answers. I'm looking for recommendations on the most efficient way of handling corp accounting as far as tracking profits. Do people have spreadsheets or is there some in game funcionality that helps with this?

Edited by: Taaketa Frist on 10/08/2006 21:41:05 I find if the money is going up and not down. Then my corp is making money.
not that I've ever been a ceo or anything but theres this funky bug when you recieve shares you get to see your own corp wallet even if you don't have access to do that. --------------

I have a mainframe computer with JD Edwards on it. Some people prefer Oracle but I think they are noobs.

for the webprograming challenged
spreadsheets are the best option
if you can do it...
a website with db backend is best.
build the tools that fit your corps needs.

I've been told some very large EVE corporations use SAP.

Pester CCP for a wallet export, and then it suddenly becomes easy.

Actually, I can believe that. The only drawback being that data export from EVE is a nuisance (e.g. you can't). If you ever could, I'd be very happy running the corp through something like that ;p

At the moment I use the notepad ingame to keep track on who owns how many shares in the bpo's that we went together and bought. Also use it to have a somewhat track of what the minerals to build cost so I can figure out the profit that is divided between the shareholders.
At the moment it is still very little so no problem keeping track on it. However... it might become bigger soon wich means more job for me as CEO. I might have to give the mineralbuy thing to someone else ---------------------------------------------- "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child: now that I am become a man, I have put away childish things." 1 cor. |

Until wallet export is implemented as a feature this is difficult to do on a micro scale.
On a macro scale, it's easier to calculate corp profitabiliy if you always use buy and sell orders (or alternatively supply/delivery contracts with other corporations). Then count Taxes et.al as a bonus.
Either way, Excel or MS Access are going to be your friend. Just remember to not spend too much time analyzing it, when you could be out there making it.

Obviously, just counting cash is very misleading as for a production/trading corp most of your assets will be in the form of raw material stocks / trade goods.
I have a pretty simple approach which is to set up an excel spreadsheet which adds up isk, value of raw material and goods stocks (valued at average cost to corp prices - finished ships etc for sale are valued at mineral content). Do this periodically and the difference between the totals is your corp profit or loss for that period.
I do separate analyses of each operation to make sure they are profitable as I feel necessary. (eg - cost of minerals going in to a ship vs selling price).
Simplistic, but works with minimal effort without having an export feature from corp wallet.

Thanks for the tips. Sitara, would you be willing to share your spreadsheet? It sounds like what I am looking for. I didn't know if there was some automated way that larger corps used but I guess not. Just want to be able to have a basic idea of which way our finances are headed without it being too time consuming.
