Its obvious to most that CCP have a hand in most of the major alliances. Its in their interests to ensure that a balance exists and that Alliances continue to kill each other. (PVP sells the game, mining does not). I suspect that CCP have too much influence and have caused several major alliances to "fold" only to be reborn and have caused some massive wars when things where a little quiet.
I just noticed this.... um... yeah right.
Yeah...thta little statement made me kinda roll my eyes and turned me off almost completely to what he was trying to say. I think sometimes there is some favoritism (which really is only human), but I don't think there's active, constant GM meddling.

Originally by: iqplayer As a long time CEO of a small/medium size corp in a large alliance, there are a few points that stand out to me in this thread:
1) A good CEO gives far more to the corp than the corp gives them. Even if he's flying a faction BS with faction mods, odds are he's still given 10x as much in isk or time, or both, to the corp. If he hasn't, the corp is probably dying anyways. The time factor cannot be discounted here either - overall, being CEO is a tough job.
2) In Eve, as in RL, results may vary. There are a lot of different alliances, and even more different corps. Some are good, some are bad - many are just different. If you don't like the way one operates, try another. But if you don't want to give anything for the corp/alliance, you shouldn't be expecting much from them.
3) If your happy with Empire, and being in a noob corp, then by all means stay! Noone's forcing you to move. On the other hand, if you want to move into 0.0, then it's going to take some sacrifice. You still don't *have* to join an existing alliance - but you'd better be committed to even more hard work if you try to 'go it alone'. You don't *have* to merge - but then you're going to have to put in the hard work to build a strong corp of your own. 0.0 life requires effort and cooperation, to be successful. But keep in mind, that if your making 2x as much as empire, and giving half of it to the corp - then you haven't lost anything, and your probably going to have a lot more fun with corpmates, accomplishing bigger goals.
The biggest problem that I see people have when joining a 0.0 corp or alliance, is they too quickly forget what the corp/alliance has given them, and focus on what they're getting.
Our CEO takes nothing from the corp...gives his own assets freely to the corp and works harder FOR the corp than any member in the corp. Frankly, I think the guy is sick in the head, but I love him to death...heheh. We both came from leadership positions in our last game and I took one look at this game and said to myself, "No way...not in this game." I'm happy to serve as a director and help as much as RL permits, but there was no way I was going to do what Fluf does in this game. Not a chance...lol.
I'd agree with you last statement. I think that all too often, players see corps as a means to get them access to 0.0 for ratting and mining. Many refuse to lift a finger for the corp unless cajoled and in some corps, it's always the same core people who are out 100% for the corp while the rest just take advantage.
