Edited by: Wrayeth on 11/08/2006 17:46:08 I got a pirate domi to 1-v-1 my tempest in Passari a couple days ago. I ended up losing (he had plates and uber resists, and I ran out of ammo in the guns and cap booster charges just as he hit structure), but it was a damned good fight. A day or two later I went hunting solo in my mach and engaged two tech II-fitted pirate feroxes in a belt (I won that one quite handily).
The good fights are out there, but you can get really, REALLY long dry spells sometimes.
As for ECM, yeah, it's a pain. On battleshipsm conjunctive ECM module seems to work wonders, though - a rook kept failing jam cycles against me with 4 of the proper racial jammers (thorax and rook vs. my mach - they warped off when they realized they couldn't keep me jammed). -Wrayeth

It's not uncommon for tech II-fitted battleships to have 80 million in modules on them. Combine that with the 30 million ISK insurance cost, and that's 110 mil lost when you lose your battleship. -Wrayeth

Imagine killing the guy with 80 mill gear on the ship by yourself then... nice profit there. :) Thats why i usually pirate solo. That, and the fact that im still in a npc corp for no good reason at all.
Yep. That domi pilot got some nice loot off me...except the stuff that was destroyed, which included half the guns and both tech II large reps. -Wrayeth

I've found the scanner is pretty easy to use when trying to locate a target in system...except when there are about 5000 belts all sitting on top of each other, even when you warp to the planet they're clustered around and scan from there.
Scanning is fairly simple: scan at 360 at max range to look for targets. If targets exist, narrow to 180 to get a general direction. Make note of any celestial objects in that direction. Narrow to 90 or 60 and refine your search parameters (i.e. point your camera in a given direction), starting with the most likely celestial objects (asteroid belts or stations). Narrow down further from there.
If the target scans towards a planet that has multiple asteroid belts or the like, you'll need to warp to one of the belts or the planet and scan from there to determine exactly which one. Sometimes it pays good dividends to randomly warp to one of the belts around the planet you scanned him near and scan from there - you might get lucky and warp to the belt your target happens to be in.
If, once you arrive in the belt, your target is not present, just repeat the scanning process from the beginning, find the belt they're in, and warp in and kill them. Watch local to make sure it doesn't suddenly jump up. -Wrayeth

Actually, ECCM modules work quite well when fitted to ships that have a high sensor strength to begin with. It's when they're fitted to ships with crap sensor strength that ECCM is worthless. -Wrayeth

You ever hear of something called civility? It's not really all that hard a concept. You just don't insult people who haven't insulted or derided you in the first place.
As for my lack of reading comprehension, that part was my bad - I was distracted by RL stuff while reading your post. -Wrayeth
