I'd like to ask, does anyone use a wolf over a jaguar for pvp?
I don't see a reason to. The wolf is dificult to fit, has big resitance holes, and lacks mid slots.
The jag on the other hand can be fitted like a vagabond and absolutely pwn. I'm talking about the following setup.
Hi: 3x 150mm II, 1x Rocket Launcher (Arby) Med: 1xAB (named), 1x Web(named), 1x Scram(named), 1x Medium Extended (named) Low: 3x Gyrostabilizer II
I don't really see any reason to fly a wolf in pvp, or in pve for that matter unless you are fighting the right npcs. ----

Well, a wolf deals 25-30% more damage than a jag _

id much rather kenetic hardner and 2 spr's in the lows. But yes you're right no real reason to fly the wolf.No reason to fly and minmatar t2 armor tanking ship.

Mabye with out gyros.Once they are considered the jaguar always comes out on top becuase it can fit more. And tanks a hell lot better.

Wolf deals... 33% more damage before damage mods, on the other hand if you actually want any kind of tank on it, she cannot fit damage mods. Whereas my setup illustrates how the jag can fit an adequate tank and use 3. ----

Yup.. since the slot boost the jag is definitely flavor of the month. I prefer the wolf myself, but meh.
The jag is now essentially a smaller vaga, and as such it would be very very difficult to fight it in a wolf, however the wolf is my prefered ship solo. Firstly, i dislike passive tanking on frigs, because although it has a decent amount of HP for its size, its still not that much more than most cruisers, and if the other guy starts landing damage on you, then you are boned.
Secondly, although the wolf does need its resists looking at, it will outdamage the jag by a fair amount, especially if you use 200mm AC's , which are great for hitting cruisers. My set-up has room for a damage mod on it to, further pushing the wolf ahead. In either ship, if you get webbed or drones your dead anyway, so i like the blunt object approach, laying on as much DPS as possible, rather than the 'do i even do enough to break his tank' approach.

While I can't fly either of them at the moment, I would prefer the jaguar simply for the speed and tackling abilities =)

Wouldn't the wolf be better with AC due to its falloff bonus?
I was thinking of flying a wolf( only 10 days away) but looking at the jag, it has a nice tank...

A jag will do wonderfully with artillery as well, something the wolf has always had trouble with in my experience. Nothing like a 20+ damage mod to make everything that much easier to kill. ----

I think you are a bit mistaken, if you want to fit it like a vagabond, the mods you want to fill your lows with are warp core stabilizer I. It is a common misconception, as Gyrostabilizer II take up the same cpu and grid and everyone claims to be using them instead.

I prefer the Jaguar over the Wolf. The Wolf isn't that great.
The Jaguar is a bit short of CPU but it's sufficient if you use some decent named loot

Well, the jag cost me 5 mill so why fit WCS. Also, people in my corp generally don't stab vagas for one very good reason. ----

I prefer the wolf.
Why?
270 DPS with two gyrostabs and Hail.
You can kill unresisted NPCers in less than 30 seconds.

In a gang vs. gang engagement, always go for the Wolf, because, lets face it, if you are called, you're going to die. (Wolf does more damage) For solo work though, or a small pirating gang, always rock the Jag, against a single opponent, they are damn hard to kill. (I use a dual extender setup with 2400ish shield )

Jag is good for solo pvp agaisnt frigs because of the med slot for the web
Wolf is good for solo pvp agaisnt cruisers because of the high dps and ok tank

Edited by: Xantina on 14/08/2006 09:17:25 I'm leaning more towards the Wolf because a) it offers better damage and b) prices are dropping recently while Jaguars are rather absurdely priced now. If I want a tackler I can fit an Inty for 1/2 the cost. If I want damage the wolf will certainly do the job nicely. Not saying the Jaguar is a bad ship especially with the additional slot, but the current hype is not quiet justified.

Jag. I flew one before the buff, and now i cant put it down. With a set of snakes and a decent MWD that baby is as fast as a ceptor.
I use it to chase down stuff, and laugh as they see a AF moving faster than their ceptor, and then having 2 webs and a scram on him makes it short work. 1 Problem though, if u activate BOTH webs at the same time u go shooting past :P So activate 1, then activate the 2nd.

I always used to use the Wolf over the Jag due to it's higher DPS and the armour tank being less a drain on the ship. If I'm running it serious I pack a rack of 200mm IIs, but if I want to conserve ammo, I will run a rack of 250mm IIs. In both cases I prefer to run a rocket launcher in the last slot to boost my DPS. The mids are simply a webber and an AB, but the Webber can be dropped for a cap recharger. In the artillery setup, I tend to still pack the webber for when fast ships get inside my optimal to make them easier targets.
The Jag however has a number of areas in which it is superior to the Wolf. Firstly it can pack a full rack of 280mm IIs which can be very devestating, I've seen soemone achieve 800+ damage form a 280mm II in a Jag with tech 2 ammo. She didn't even have maxxed out damage skills so I really think that may have been a lucky bug... but shots up to 400+ are certainly possible form my experience. The Jag also has the nice rack of mid slots which make it a GREAT tackler in PVP and also give the option of a strong shield tank, the Minmatar resists being optimal for shield tanking. I still haven't found a shield tank I'm happy with yet, so I am fond of giving it an armour tank and a mid rack of webber, scrambler, AB and cap recharger with 200mm IIs in the highs.
So I really wouldn't advocate one over the other, they are both super. One has high damage with a decent tank, the other is VERY adaptable with some strong configuration possibilities whether tank/gank or tackler.

I like to use the wolf as arty pod popper in gangs normally. The jag I use solo usually with a dual ext. setup oh....it would be great in gangs as a heavy tackler but so is a stabber and there fully insurable and cheaper. Dual sensor bootser arty wolf is prob the biggest kill mail ----- ever. Ya get almost every pod.

Hah, yeah right.
Maybe T1 frigs in one volley. If they aren't plated/extended.
You would need to get excellent hits with quake to pop most inty setups in one, which is unlikely.
And cruisers in 3? Maybe month old caracal pilots.
Raw volley damage with lvl 4 assault ships, using quake (50% tracking penalty) is ~1300 hp.
It does decent damage, so there is no need to exaggerate.

Pre midslot Change patch. Wolf Every time. Post midslot Change Patch. Jaguar every time.
Jaguar, Does less damage, but then 4 midslots makes it a Pwnmobile. the wolf cannot even come close when it comes to tanking the damage in 1 vs 1 combat.
You try a Wolf vs Jaguar. Dual extender Jaguar SHOULD win every time (unless his High slots are empty)
