After the EVE Gate collapsed, mankind resumed its perpetual warfare. Weaponry advanced and advanced until the development of a new weapon - the Nova Device. Basically, it makes a star go nova. A detente formed between the factions, similar to the Cold War, with Nova Devices replacing nukes. Only this time, the Cold War got hot. Very hot.
The resulting superwar did to the Milky Way what a full nuclear exchange would have done to Earth. Earth itself is a burned husk following the detonation of Sol.

Earth 22k years into the future? i would say at the very least no known life sign are left in the Solar system any more, human would have gone already. not "gone" as in total annihilation, but rather exodus to different places and colonized other habitable planets for a new home. who knows? it's 22k years into the future, and there only 1 way to find out --------------------------------------- - yes, im a noob - yes, im a nut job - no, i dont give a .... about what u think of my noobness - now, tell me sumthing i dont know |

People who say that the Earth would've been blown up in a war don't understand human psychology. It'll never happen. Earth will become a massive tourist destination because, if nothing else, it wouldn't be at the 'center' of things in a galaxy-spanning empire. The Solar system is relatively on the fringes of our galaxy, and would be too out of the way to become a center of government or a military outpost, so no-one would bother attacking it.
Let me put it another way. If you were going to attack America would you nuke Washington, DC or Plymouth county, Massachusetts? ___

My theory is that Earth was not the only planet to die - half the inhabited systems were rendered uninhabitable by Nova Devices. It is based on the idea that weapons technology would continue to advance, that we would eventually develop such a weapon, and that it would eventually be used.

I had actually thought about this as a solution to one of Eve-Online's problems.
If the servers became overloaded eventually, and shards were the only solution, plot-wise...
****
The Eve gate opens back up--the electrical storms finally cease. The races, now fully at war with one another, pause in their brawling to wonder at this new spectacle. They wait, but nothing comes through the gate--it is empty and barren and silent.
Finally they send ships through (this could make a great story :P). They find Earth a greatly-advanced Jovian-type empire. The Earth humans follow back through the gate to meet their long-lost descendents--and are HORRIFIED at what they find, making everyone in Eve realize just what humanity here has devolved to.
The Eve inhabitants try for peace, with the help of their newly-rediscovered Earthen ancestors. The Gate, now active but pulsating rhythmically rather than staying steadily open, allows passage once per day (downtime!) back and forth from the old Earthen galaxies (and the domain of this new/old Earth people and their factions). Therefore you dock up at a station set beside the gate before downtime, and register to jump, and when the servers come back up you're on the other shard.
****
I know this is grabbing your question and running far far away with it, but it provoked my memory of this idea, and I figured I'd share.

If the Milky Way IS inhabited by some kind of super-civilization, then I hope we never make contact with them. We'd get pwned.
However, I could handle a civilization that is more advanced than we are, but is missing something:
Capsule technology.
That would be cool - they have better weapons, but we have capsules.

The idea that the Enheduanni are in fact connected with Earth is one of the best about them I've thusfar heard, and it makes a lot of sense. It's pretty clear the Jove never really suffered a civilizational collapse post EVE-gate collapse, and they seem to know a lot about them anyway, despite their great power. That the Enheduanni seem to consider it important to orient events in EVE to suit their own desires, it becomes questionable, given their great power, what those could be. The protection or advancement of technology and societies in EVE for either some future defense of Earth or perhaps an attack on its ruling parties? Who knows.

Maybe the earth humans are the jovians, and they have managed a way to find the eve galaxy again and theyre just waiting for the right time make the proper contact and tell us whats become of them. Its a possibility, they would also have evolved like the races in the eve universe just under the infulence of technology not survivablility. And the technology to do such a thing is possible since its thousands of years in the future.

I like the idea that due to temporal mechanics, if the EVE gate reopens, we will find that almost no time has passed on Earth.
Of course, what happens when the Terrans try to retake EVE for themselves?

i would think that Earth would become what Washington, DC is for America, a central government meeting place, but more in the idea of the UN because there would be hundreds of factions (the corps mentioned in introduction movie). many of these would probally be warring (human nature) and many people would be pretty ****ed off. if the EVE gate reopened theyd probally all be dead in the Milky Way version of the New Eden system and we probally wouldnt be able to get around anywhere cause their technology would make it so that all of their ships can use jump drives I Like Pie |

How about this for a Paradox. The EvE Wormhole was only connected to itself at a different point in time. So the EvE Galaxy is infact the Milky Way either far in the past or maybe far in the Future.
Now it would not be far in the future as no ruins of a long dead civilisation has been found but what if in one of those fringe unexplored systems in the unfasionable western spiral arm of the galaxy was infact prehistoric Earth! And infact at some point maybe in the past or possibally the future a group of explorers and colonists crash land on Prehistoric Earth. They would be in some kind of statis from the time before jump gates leaving their minds linked in a main computer system. They crash and are left only with base instincts and humanity grew from them. Much of this is an idea borrowed from The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy but it could be one explination.
Now wait... all of the four races at some point have found alien jump gates and accelerator gates which have aided in there expansion. So this could point to EvE infact being far far in the future after all evidence of an dead civilsation has been washed away by time leaving only a few clues floating in deep space.
Maybe the Jovians themselves are infact the what humanity will evolve into seen they are infact the remenants of an old galactic civilsation who did not travel through the EvE gate. This would explain there huge difference in physical form compared to other races even tho this has been put down to genetic experiments in the past no one knows alot about the Jovians so who knows either way. All we know is that there have been 3 Jove empires with sketchy timelines at best.
So if we take the eve gate to be not a link to two points in space but two points in time we have an advanced civilisation both technalogically and genetically whos past is unknown apart from a few events, whos reason for genetic difference is put down to experiements in the past without solid evidence that this is the sole cause as well as random alien ruins in the form of jump gates and accelerator gates floating about.
There is more than meets the eye here but I think it should not be discounted that the Jove Empire is infact what remains of the ancient human civilisation before the discovery of the eve gate who have evolved and changed to survive wars, disease and social unrest for maybe hundreds of thousands of years.
They are interested and drawn to the Caldari as they remind them most of their lost humanity and civilisation and through them maybe wish to rebuild and continue their destiny to colonise the stars.
All very far fetched but you never know

Oooh, I like that idea. :O
Love that idea
Following the first idea of Earth being in the past: Now just wondering - Once these "survivors" land and start a new life on earth and start propagating the world and eventually the galaxy, would they not come across stargates left by civilizations past?

Edited by: Pottsey on 16/03/2007 12:56:21 Some say the one race thatÆs far in advance of the Jove are humans from Earth. Enheduanni tech level means they could well be earthlings. Not that you can really call them human anymore as they are more away from Gallatne style human then the Jove are.
ôNow it would not be far in the future as no ruins of a long dead civilisation has been foundö There are lots of ruins of a long dead civilisation's in Eve. I spent most of my time in them doing Archaeology.
Yan Jung are the race I spend most of my time there tech level matchÆs T2 even though they are 1,000's of years old. There are more dead/lost race's out there.

Do you know of any sources of information on these lost civilisations? I'm aware of some items in the DB, but that's about it. When you do archaeology, are there any snippets of information revealed in the process? Has anyone collected together everything that's know and put them in a wiki/whatever somewhere?
I'm curious, but this sort of thing is way out of scope for my normal gameplay and the sort of direction I could take my character in.

Mostly when warping along with the stuff you can right click and show info on. Some of the items you find can also be right clicked for info.
Never head of anyone collecting all the info. I picked up a fair bit of Yan Jung lore and know lots like they vanished 1000Æs of years ago but there technology is self sustaining and buildings that blow up can use nano technology to rebuild. The power source as well lasts for 1000Æs of years without refuelling. Yan Jung are masters of gravitronic and force field technology and use auto rebuilding replier fields. These field when turned on move any ships inside over 100+ KM away. Many a pilot has blown then up gone past the field to get at what its guarding only to be caught out as the field rebuilds it self and throws them away from there target.
EDIT: You can also talk to agents in space who give more info along with 1 off storyline missions in cosmos areas.

Earth itself would probably be an uninhabited wasteland of violent climates and unpredictable hurricanes, tsunamis, and earthquakes, ravaged from the years of abuse by the humans.
The human race itself would probably by spread throughout the galaxy, and we would no longer recognize them as humans, since they would have probably becoming far more adapted to space flight. Say what? |

All so negative.
Perhaps humans of earth would no longer be recognizable as humans anymore. At the time the wormhole opened...Mankind barely stretched out into the heavens for the first time. Still arrogant in its supremacy. Given 20,000 years of space exploration I would think our race would mature to the point where conflict over resources is ridiculous as the galaxy provides everything that is needed.
Or perhaps contact with other more experience peoples would have helped open ourselves to our own potential. Personally...i doubt earth humans 30,000 years from now would even consume food...just energy.

nah, i think that humans will be about as peaceful as the earth is today, maybe something kinda like the un would have taken over the major corporations and made war laws, and then only radicals would cause problems, like today, or the un would decide what corps to go after, and we would be so advanced by then, im pretty sure they would have the technology to make everything they need in zero grav environments *space stations* and we would stop needing to use the limited natural resources, and they could possible be able to span distances from galaxy to galaxy, and maybe cross to other dimensions as well... who knows, i think it would be the ****nit if the developers would make it to where we found humanity, but thats just me

Earth's empire in the times that are going in the game time.. Hard to tell.
Remember why they came to New Eden in the first place? The galaxy they lived in had been mostly used for it's raw materials already - as far as I understood it - and when the megacorps were starting to bicker between what resources were left - they found the natural wormhole to New Eden. With dollar or ISK -signs in their eyes they came in, looking to use everything this new world could give to them
But the wormhole closed. I firmly believe that after that, they either started the project to rebuild the gate (c'mon, no breakthrough in 20 000 years?) or finally turned against eachother, duked it out and lotsa people died. End. -------------------

Id say that earth is most likely a stable environment, surely by 21k years in the future humans have discovered terraforming technology (why not? they said ftl travel was impossible as well). in terms of Earth's role in galactic events, i see it as the symbolic homeland of humanity, and as such, probably the headquarters of many mega corps and perhaps a part of (judicial, if anything) a galactic government. Humans in the milky way galaxy are probably more advanced than those in EVE, but its understandable given that from what we know, there was no catastrophic event that halted technological progress, as there was in EVE. In addition, with the corporations constantly at war, technological expansion probably continued at a rapid pace (in war no one likes to be left behind).

ok lets say earth was still around in the eve-world , maybe if a race like the amarr which in a desperate search of some sort of religious search (search for gods body or something idk - some kind of roleplay) and instead of finding what they were intentionally looking for they find a portal in a deep cave on some deserted planet and turns out to be an old intergalatic highway (like the wormhole) which goes to other galaxies aswell as the milkyway ( the portal would have been made by an old alien race that has died because of disease)
eve races can then come intact with other races and the highway opens up and as new technology and new races intermingle eventually lets say some kind of terrorist attack destroys the portal in the milkyway galaxy so we get cut off with earth once again - this would be a good/easy excuse for new races/new toys for the future of eve-online and maybe new space
( a little bit of a bite off of stargate sg1 (that portal thing) and star trek (the time portal) sure - maybe , make it a little different so its not? eve is filled with possibilities - nothing is impossible
