Dear CCP
I created this post sometime ago. Though I haven't had any issues I can think of, others have.
It is time do you (CCP) to decide is transgaming's CIDER best for EVE
Please take the time to work with other "wine/bottle" tools and their developers and find a new 3rd party to assist in supporting EVE on the all major OSs
xoxo

This latest patch (15.02.05) has made my EVE Client so unstable that it is unplayable. I have submitted a support ticket for this.
I have had problems running EVE ever since I got my new iMac:
2014 27" 5K Retina 4 GHz i7 16GB DDR3 AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4096 MB
Running 10.10.2
Prior to this patch, the client would crash in various ways a couple of times a day under a diverse number of circumstances, however the most common one involves an OSX Error window about a graphics error followed by the client freezing and requiring a hard quit.
Prior to this current iMac, I was using an older 2009 iMac running Mavericks. It was relatively stable but did still have problems from time to time with the client crashing, with and without errors.
But NOW, as of 15.02.05, the client is so unstable that it crashes/closes/freezes every 15-20 minutes during any number of situations (mostly seems to have problems swapping sessions). Now, sometimes the launcher won't open (spinning beachball), can't connect, or the client window simply closes with no warning/error. Other times the graphics get all scrambled and either entirely or partially disappear.
It is really disappointing that such a great game can't run on the newest high-end Apple computer, since this game was why I bought the new computer in the first place.
That's a LOT of money and time (not even counting the two subs I have) to spend just to feel irritated.
What's the plan, CCP? |

Hi,
i updated my osx to development version 10.10.3 yesterday which made the eve client unable to work. It's developer version, so one can expect such behaviour, however being unable to play Eve is the worst part of it :)
If reinstalling your system back to previous version is a no go for u, i would like to note, that the process with installing/running eve through wine, as described in this post https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=308083&find=unread still works and solves the issues with broken gfx, it will take couple hours depending on your connection though...
hope it helps o7 |

For those of you who are running the newest iMacs or anything with OSX 10.10.#, be aware that, per the response on my support ticket: "CCP does not support OSX 10.10.#. We recommend you downgrade to 10.8 or 10.9"
Except for the fact that the newest hardware WON'T RUN on OSXs prior to Yosemite(10.10.#) - per Apple Tech Support, that 's a great idea!
No timeline for Yosemite support. They say they are "working with TransGaming (the folks who are in charge of the absolutely horrid CIDER implementation) to start supporting OSX 10.10.#"
So, we can do a couple of things while we wait and hope that Apple's next OSX release (and associated hardware) doesn't happen before CCP supports what is out now:
Install and boot into a Windows environment (not sure what the latest version CCP supports) and run the game. (This means BUYING Windows). Try to install and run the Linux WINE environment and run the game.
I've read that the WINE solution comes with its own problems but at least is reasonably stable. The Windows solution seems to be the best way to run the game in the "native" package and is the fastest and best running.
So, what to do? I REALLY don't want to put a Microsoft product on my iMac, not to mention I'm not even sure it would run properly given the current 5K retina architecture.
Maybe, as Arthur points out, the new AMD Radeon driver that is coming in Tiamat, will solve many of these problems? Considering 90% of my problems are graphics related:
"Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000024 at address 0x7001c524"
I can only hope so.

I decided to look at the history of what CCP is supporting as far as Operating Systems:
Minimum: Windows XP Service Pack2/Vista - released August 25, 2004/October 22, 2009 OSX 10.7.5 - released September 19, 2012
Recommended: Windows 7/8 - released October 22, 2009/October-á26, 2012 OSX 10.8.2 - released September 19, 2012
NOT Supported: Windows 8.1 - released October 17, 2013 OSX 10.9 - released October 22, 2013 (this is peculiar since CCPs webpage does not indicate 10.9 support even though they told me in an e-mail that is was supported) OSX 10.10 - released July 24, 2014
Clearly, CCP is running about 2-2.5 year behind in their support of OSs, given that the last official ones they support were released within a month of each other in late 2012.
It is almost comical that they still support Windows XP from 2004 (especially since Microsoft doesn't even support it any more), but hey.....that's when EVE Online was created, right?
I will give them credit, however, since they DID say they are working on Yosemite support but cannot yet give a timeline. |

That is actually good news. It is the first time I have heard of anyone being told that they are even working on the issue. I was starting to fear they were just going to drop the Mac when I didn't see anything about it in the release notes for tomorrow.
I find it interesting that they say they don't support Windows 8.1...that seems really odd. |

"Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000024 at address 0x7001c524" I haven't had that error in a while, but here's what I did to solve it on my end: 1. Open Settings and tab to "Display & Graphics". 2. Disable the "Use multithreaded OpenGL" option.
I'll let you know if I'm able to use the "High" shader setting tomorrow after Tiamat (as well if I still run into any occasional crashes).

I thought I would let all of you wonderful Apple folks know that I have contacted TransGaming directly to inquire about OSX Yosemite support in their CIDER implementation and their timeline to provide it.
Do I expect them to respond? NO, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease and I'm one hell of a squeaky wheel. |

Just FYI, I'm using a beta version of Yosemite (being a dev), and it works just fine using the wine way highlighted in that other forum post : https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4246623#post4246623
No instability to speak of.
However, YES, it's sucky that it doesn't work out of the box for a mac without using tricks. There is no planned support for DirectX on the mac, and the cost of transitioning away from it is prohibitive for most game developers. Cross-platform systems like Unity etc would likely suffer from performance issues, given the current art of the game.
So yea, my hopes are small we'll ever have a native port, and cider dependency is yucky. Use wine. |

Did anyone try to run Eve in a Virtual machine like VMWare or Virtual box ?
I'm really bored with Eve Client under Yosemite, cause it makes my mac heat like a b**** and running multiple client instances is just the best way to burn my CPU down... Alt-tab freezes the whole system really often. I lost several ships because of this.
Oh and NO, I won't downgrade my OS on my pro laptop because of a game...that won't happen. |

I'm trying to apply this method. It seems to work better for the moment.
The game is reacting way faster and I had no crash on alt-tab. |

Did this on a MacPro (late 2013) with two clients. described on page 4 of this thread. How are your experiences regarding running multiple windowed clients? It wasn't a success on my machine.
Tiamat definitively made the base CCP-client less stable for me, so I'm really curious for your results.

I have been running 2-3 clients using the wine method without major issues. Obviously, if your video card isn't awesome, you will have to downgrade the quality.
That being said, the Sisi version of EVE runs *much* better, on my mac. The team has definitely worked on performance/stability issues, and kudos to them. I encourage everyone who can to give it a whirl and give more feedback to CCP (I sometimes feel like I'm the only mac user during the mass tests, there must be others lurking around, right? ;) |

I followed the steps above and I managed to install the client without issues (except the one is in the end of the steps).
Now, once the client was launched I fought with the resolution of the windows game. It was almost impossible to do, as everytime that I tried to move the client windows to my HP Pavilion 23xi, the window inside the hangar station was showed all colour 'yellow'... until I decided to manipulated the optimization of the game features to 'memory' and everything was changed to low settings.
Once there I tried to play but is impossible. See when I was in space I wasn't able to select any of the options that comes in the UI menu to that shows the planets, gates, stations, etc. Even when I tried to fix my chat windows (corp, intel, alliance) and placed them in the right position, the client was bouncing the windows from one corner to another corner in the screen...
Anyways, I decided to called it for tonight but my specs are: OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-Inch, Mid 2014) Processor: 2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7 16GB Memory DDR3 Intel Iris Pro 1536MB Sharing External monitor: HP Pavilion 23xi.
I'll try to record the desktop screen later and I'll upload on here. |

I'm not sure if this is a Mac 10.10 issue so I'll ask here. For a while my chat log files haven't been updating. The timing is about right for when I upgraded to 10.10 but I wasn't paying attention until i had to go back for some info and found no new logs since a particular day.
I'm getting mixed answers from a petition and bug report, and I am trying to follow their guidance on submitting information but wanted to ask in here as well.
Thanks. |

I upgraded to OS X 10.10.3 today and am experiencing the following anomalies with the EVE client:
1. On initial launch, the launcher immediately appears as "Offline". 2. On re-launch, the launcher is blank and no information is displayed. 3. On the third launch, the launcher finally loads - but Tranquility Status is "Unknown" and the character selection is wiped. Entering the character name in manually and clicking "Launch" works, however.
I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.
