1) Concerning Thorax - the "When Thorax is dealt damage by a ship. Thorax deals equal damage to that ship." applies to all types of damage (abilities, ambushes, etc.) or only regular attacks [think it should be all but curious]
2) Onerius seems like a strange card... "As long as there are one or more friendly ships in this region, prevent all damage dealt to Oneiros.", would that mean if there are two oneiros in one region it is impossible to kill them with ANYTHING (news? abilities? ambushes? kamikazis? targets? anything?).. clerification?

1) Based on the Guardian Ruling it seems clear that its only damage from regular attacks. Source is indicated as ship. (If not im going to shoot someone...)
2) Well, again based on the Guardian Ruling, as the abilty does not requre a specific source, it WILL protect against ALL damage.

There is a large difference between kamikaze and ambush.
Ambush: At the beginning of a withdraw step, this ship may deal X damage to an attacking ship.
Kamikaze: At the beginning of a battle phase, you may sacrifice this ship to deal X damage to any target ship or starbase in this region.
Ambush has a clear source, the ship doing the ambush. In the kamikaze case it's more like a news, the damage is an effect that happens when the card is sacrificed. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, that seems like a resonable way to read it. I'll have to reread some cards to see how this affects them. This only affects the Thorax though.

I agree.
Also, however ambush is worded and regardless of where the ship is when the damage takes place, 14 years of card gaming precedent still tells me that the ship is the source of the damage. Kamikaze and abilities like the Thrasher are simply not sourceless damage. Nothing can ever be sourceless in a card game. Rather, the game should simply differentiate between ship's guns and ship's abilities if needed. Having sourceless damage is, well, stupid from a rules point of view.

Agreed. Although the ship may have left play, the ship card should still be considered the source of the damage for the purposes of resolving other game effects.

ALL damage, so that includes new damage.
Ofcourse a card that outright removes it from play will work.
Or you can (try to) kill the other ships with it first.

Based upon the new Guardian Ruling it completely reversed this. Don't you love misinformation (not by you, but the ISD guy)? So, all damage including ambush, etc is also dealt back to the ship that dealt it originally (if it's still a valid target).

Probably just a crossed wire. Given their tournament, there was probably more things coming up and being answered than they had time to relay to everyone properly.

I think Kaemonn was answering as a player more than as an official rules guy; people just tend to take ISD posts with more authority :P
Tallest, if you read this, is there any chance we can get a list of who the 'official' rules people are?

Edited by: Tallest on 17/08/2006 11:30:51 Since Brokkur Helfari is the lead designer of the game, he has the final word on any rules issues that come up. He's been designing the game from the start and he knows the intent of the cards.
There are of course other devs who know the card game very well and have been playing since the start. We work closely together and I am sure that everything I tell you is exactly the way it should be.
I know there are some issues that have come up where we have to add clarifications to the rules regarding interactions between certain cards and we will try our best to have a comprehensive tournament rulebook up when we launch the website and start selling the game worldwide in october.
I don't know if a list of devs that are "trusted" to give answers to rules questions is a good idea, but generally devs don't answer questions if they are not sure of the answer. Trust the devs.

I wonder how long it'll be before Tallest has a forum avatar.
I'm looking forward to the rules Encyclopedia that is made when this releases in october.
