EvE does actually have a large tard-base but thats par for the PvP genre afaik. Pretty much can garantee that if someone is in a position to lock and blow you up with garanteed immunity from retaliation they will do it in a heartbeat. That has been my experience.
Some people, like myself, will not pod for no reason, though your ship is fair game since it can drop loot. With the next patch I think pods will fall into the loot dropping catagory too.
Not sure why CCP would make a move such as this that would cause more fear and create less incentive to explore the game and engage in PvP. Its not like we have people beating down low sec stargates to come out and fight.

Thats actually incorrect. If you give your ship ANY order, the protection you have left is cancelled, but the redocking timer remains. You only get the full 30 seconds if you just leave everything alone after you undock. And wiping out a destroyer with a single volley before it can align isn't hard for any battelship to pull off.
To the OP, Basically yes. Anytime your lower than 0.5 you can expect to be chased to the death. If you dont have anywhere to run, or any place to hide, or anyone to help you stay in hi-sec. ___________

QFT. There are plenty of empty low sec and 0.0 systems. Places where you can roam around and not see another player for days (if you play little; hours if you play a lot).
On the other hand, there are ghettos. Places where large pirate gangs hang out and camp gates or look for people in complexes and astroid belts.
That's the beauty of EVE. The more knowledge you have, the more you can prosper (and I'm not necessarily talking skill points).
The map is your friend. Look out for pod killing zones, jumps in the last hour, active pilots etc.

Not sure...
I know me personally, with the characters I use in Empire, I clone jump out of my Augmented clone into a bare one when I have tasks to perform in low sec... Not sure how many players will be doing the same.
I have a character in the works to join in the low sec fun I've been hearing so much about, so I hope that with wrecks & corpse looting, it can be fun & profitable at the same time...
Not yet sure if he will be a pirate or bounty hunter, depends on the contract system...

Its peole like u and Tobin i deteste most definately. Just because someone does something in game YOU dont think is right, does not make them an asshat or immature or anything else. By generalizing all of them u are by default acting immature etc.
the sooner u drop that kind of attitude the sooner you'll survive in eve.
EVERYONE has there part to play in the grand sccheme of things, were are all pieces on this chess board.
Trust me when I say, that most likely this feeling is mutual.
Let me also say that, and yes, I'm sort of quoating someones sig here, if you can ruin someones day, it doesn't mean that you absolutely must.
That is exactly what has happened to the OP, here. His ship and pod was destroyed just because someone could and no other reason then that.
I have any and all rights to dislike this style of play - it bring little to nothing to the table.
this is the point, you talk about ruining someones day, but how tha hell do you KNOW that was the intention?? your just assuming, and making a damn fine ass out of yourself. That style of play brings ebnough to the table, it brought this guy to the forums and it taught him valuable lessons.
ALL game play styles are valid and calling someone an asshat and other names because YOU dont like it, again serves to make you look stupid. and you do.
Until you have played EVERY play style then you can come here with an EDUCATED opinion on it. otherwise hush up. I'll be seeing you in space.

Okay. Indulge me. What intention could someone to snipe a rookie ship along with the pod?

Lessons like? Judging by the original post, Aoki was fully aware of the risks of low security space and has no obvious beef with losing his original ship - a destroyer.

This game only is fun because there are a bunch of "lame griefers" out to ruin your day. This happens to be very similar to other games that have NPCs that will attack you no matter what, without mercy. Thats actually a challenge. A challenge to overcome. Only this time, the "bad guys" dont fall for kites, AoE, and the though guy in armor tanking why the squishies cast away. If you want to be "holier than though" and insult the people behind the keyboard go ahead. As you can see, thats the fastest way to lose all forms of sympathy here. And silence everyone who actually knows what he is talking about (the ebil pirate griefers are the ones who happen to give the best advice how to avoid them ...)
If you want to invoke some kind of moral high ground, stop playing a space game, and go safe the world. Until then, you are no less a "loser" then everyone else in here.

Alternatively.
Warping to a gate might be better idea unless you were the aggressor. Anyone who follows you will have to deal with gate sentries. Which are, to say the least, pretty nasty.

There is a point to blowing up newb frigs, they might have 100 t2 BPO's in them . When I pirated I never shot new players if I noticed they were new because there wasn't really a point (unless their ship was bigger than mine). People that kill newbs may not be the coolest type of people, but they are part of the game. They sharpen the newbies up and make them smarter and better. They actually help the victim, but they are still kinda lame some times.

No. Some parts of Eve sometimes have that kind of person hanging around.
As I and others have advised read the map. Caldari space is the worst of the lot - probably because so many characters start there and because of the puss-hole that is Jita. Go to another Empire and ganking becomes rare. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Thanks for the replies and advice. Lots of good info in here.
It's OK if you didn't read the opening post. I think I need to clarify though. I'd been killing NPCs in 0.4 space for over an hour, and hadn't seen another soul. At the end of an NPC fight, shields and armor beat, I get destroyed by someone's Cruiser. That's only fair. He didn't pod kill me.
I docked at a station, picked up my noob ship, and started to leave the system. That's when I got one-shotted and podded.
The first guy got my cargo, which had some nice stuff. That's fine.
The second two guys got nothing.
I'm not mad. I just don't understand why you'd go the extra mile for zero benefit.

that might be true in principle but not in practice - i undocked from a station two nights back in a hauler and there was a blinker hanging around the station and i immediately hit warp and he started opening fire on me not 10 seconds out of the station - i was still aligning when he destroyed my ship and due to being squeezed out i was unable to dock my pod and he got that, too.
we can debate this back and forth with you saying "you must have been too slow" but i'm a relatively vet with a lot of experience getting away from pirates and i had absolutely no chance with this guy, so am not sure that 30 second rule is hard and fast, or it might be bugged.

Im sick of tired of these same things being asked again, there really needs to be better support for people in eve be it a manual or a wiki. Of course manybe half the game is finding out peoples motivations and learning what its all about...
Anyways, I will kill anything to
a)remove it from local, keep it from warning other victims b)stop it smacking c)cause as much damage in implants/clones/sp
Never would I kill something for something like a killboard, which I only like for tracking what my corpmates are doing.
Now before you say thats just griefing, no. If your killed after you offer a ransom its your own bloody fault. If we dont offer ransom then sucks to be you but this is the harsh reality of eve. I strongly resent the fact I must be an immature idiot to do these things, when I am blatantly not, and will provide reasons for doing so.
You can look forward to a lot of things, including killing people like me and learning how to avoid people pirating.

I read the op and though I believe repeated ganking to be a pain in the neck...lets look at some reasons why him NOT killing you would seem odd.
EvE is a roleplaying game. He is a pirate. Pirates are not known for their squishy peachy lovable demeanor. They want you dead and your stuff in their cargo hold.
Perhaps they are roleplaying that they hate your particular race...i.e. minmatar/amarr or something. He is flying about and sees an enemy...so he goes on the attack. Why show an enemy mercy.
Pirates and enemy pilots have no reason at all to be nice and sweet and not kill or pod us. Space is dangerous...I figured that out as soon as I realized my ship needed weapons and shields. Those railguns shoot death and destruction, not puppy dogs and kisses.
I for one enjoy the dangerousness of space, and the ever present posibility of nasties showing up to do me in. It gives me a valid reason to spend all that time waiting for skills to go up, or to go ahead and spend time jumping 10+ systems away for that one little module that may give me that .5% bonus that will allow me to survive.
If you want to be honorable and nice, then grab someone like me and form a corporation of defenders or something. But dont judge someone elses playstyle based on your notions of right or wrong, or productive or not.

Like I said, I totally understand destroying my Destroyer. I was in the wrong place, doing something dumb. I had stuff, he got stuff.
But why waste time and ammo destroying a clearly empty noob replacement frigate? There isn't even anything to salvage. What kind of pirate spends their time NOT making money? Who intentionally goes out of their way for a net-loss?
Quote: But dont judge someone elses playstyle based on your notions of right or wrong, or productive or not.
I can appreciate that, and I'm a lot more flexible that you guys think. I don't think it was "wrong" to destroy my Destroyer. I'm not angry it was destroyed.
I just think it was counterproductive to destroy a clearly empty noob frigate where there's nothing to gain. Honestly I thought I'd misread the manual. I figured by asking here "What is there to gain?" I'd get an answer like "Official Pirate Cool Points" or something that's attainable and concrete.

Your questions would make sense without the rubbish quoted above.
After you posted that, everything appears in a new light. You dont ask for economic reasons to pod you (reasons you didnt think about, for example: my 2 day old alts all get a full set of +3 implants, if pirates wouldnt pod everyone on sight, i would never even consider paying ransom - i could just hope for a "nice" pirate and newb away in my ibis). You "question" the actions of the pirates in light of aspects like "immature" and "idiots".
They are the bad guys, they dont need to follow arbitrary rules of "efficiency". Thats what actually makes them so dangerous (and fun). Just think about it. If pirates would stop shooting newb ships of new players - what would everyone use to transport valuable stuff?
Whine all you want, people who insult the people who PLAY pirates are the bad guys, the lamers, the griefers. Pirates (who honor ransoms) are the true heroes of eve ;)

They gain a kill mail, which many people collect for some reason or another. Variety and player freedom are what makes eve, eve. Because of this, you have to expect that someone will be doing everything imagineable for every thinkable reason. As much as we all hate pirates, gate gankers, ipo scammers, can campers, ect., they make eve unique and stand out from other mmos. It helps to understand this.
Now escrow scammers, thats just ******* annoying
