Be sure you are secure enough to see the funny side of such events haha x

Outside of that, it is... - a fleet support ship (see: force multiplier) - ratting ship (though, there are other ships that are cheaper and can largely do the same thing) - a big, expensive target. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. "How did you veterans start?"

If you are a POS owner, you could also keep a triage carrier around to repair your POS, but chances are good that attackers will blow you up when you go into triage. Triage carrriers are great for repairing themselves or something else, but their tank will eventually break (for example if under capacitor warfare pressure) and they do not have any offensive capabilities when in triage. Apart from that there is no reason to have a carrier solo. In combat they only perform well in groups.

What is this, 2009 (prior to the fighter nerf)? Someone hasn't been to null lately, using assigned fighters sucks compared to having the carrier on grid where the fighters actually get bonuses from the carrier (unless you use a ship with mutiple target painters, but the you still have the tracking issues and the fighters need to move and orbit). Unbonused fighters (which is what assigned fighters are) suck against anything that isn't a battleship. If you are ratting in a BS, regular heavy drones (or mixed Gecko flights, in angel space 2 geckos, 2 Valkyries and a warrior is magic) are much much better.
