And Sci-Fi confirm it here.
Well, was bound to happen sooner or later... Atlantis is going to continue though, with season 4 already confirmed - and there are rumours of another feature film. Not to mention, rumours that a third stargate series is in the works.

Its understandable: regardless of how good a show is, it eventually has to end. It can be brought back later, but after 10 straight seasons anything can get stale.
But Atlantis is not a worthy sequel.

I'm ok with it, can't go on forever...
Plus I think all involved, actors & such just need to move on...
I think I would after 10 years on the same show...
I feel bad for Ben Browder though, he is going to think he's the kiss of Sci-Fi death. ------------------------------------------------ Current Hobby other than EVE

Yeah I was thinking the same thing...him and Claudia Black.
BTW, I just saw "200"...Richard Dean Anderson looks, I dunno, old and tired

Gah but they ran out of stuff me thinks.
Atlantis has been better for like a season or so already. Let's focus on that

All good things I suppose... I quite liked the ori as the new bad guys, hopefully some epic space fights and lots of explosions to make the end of it.
Atlantis never has been as good imho reckon they should end it all with season 4 of that and a final film. -----

Norwegian TV sent the first 2 seasons again, and again, for many, many, years. when they aired it enough, the interest dropped, and ive not seen the series for many, many years now.

I will say this, I don't feel as ripped off as I did when FarScape was cancelled...
SG-1 had a good run and will in the long run be looked on more fondly for going when it was time. Now Firefly thats a different story, imo the biggest scandal in sci-fi since the original ST was cancelled

Me's watched SG-1 fron day 1 and enjoyed the ride, pity it has to come to an end, although i do agree with a previous person who posted, Richard Dean Anderson doesn't look like the same old Jack O'Neill
As for Atlantis, got it all so far, I quite enjoy it, here's hoping the scripts get better as time goes by. would have thought the Wraith were more UBER though, they seem to get there collective arses kicked on a regular basis by us "primative humans"
As as for poor Ben Browder and Claudia, god they must think they are cursed or something, yet whatever program they are in, be it Farscape or SG-1, they are still bloody BRILLIANT !!!

Stargate SG-1 used the genre of sci fi to produce stories that spoke to us and sometimes even made you think. I loved that about the series, it was very well written and acted.
When Ben and Claudia joined I was apprehensive it would become fargate, but it actually went a lot smoother than I thought. Pleasant surprise.
I also understand the writer's predicament, eventually, your characters reform to the point that there's little left to do with them anymore. No series can last forever, especially without a lot of new blood.
As for Atlantis, it has a different beat and vibe than SG-1 and I never liked it as much as SG-1. But I still like it and watch it. It will be interesting to see where it goes.
As for a feature film -- if they don't do it I will hunt them down and pod them myself! (oh wait you can't do that irl :D ). And a third series? Depends on a lot of things, could be awesome or repiticious, probably repiticious.

The worst part is that unless they can confirm a movie, they'll horribly rush S10 to defeat the Ori, where there are a few years of storylines at least
I hope they can wrap it up without being too stupid, it would be a shame to remember SG-1 like that.

It's a shame tbh. Although the baddies have sucked lately, the characters have been done well. i was starting to enjoy browder and black, they bring something new to the show. plus the 200th episode was amazing.
did i read that the producers are looking for another channel to show it on? i think movie rumours are just from one line at the end of the 200th ep tbh, no real substance (although i haven't investigated tbh, if it happens it happens)

Well, I haven't seen much of it (whole first series, quite a lot of the second, will watch the rest of that over the next couple of days) but I'd like to know the answer to something that has bugged me all the way so far:
In almost every episode so far, Daniel discovered some ancient legend by talking to the local yokels, and explained how it would save their asses to Jack. Jack always said "look, that's just a legend" or "nice story, but this is not the time". Has there ever been an episode when it actually WAS just a legend, rather than another fine delivery by Stargate Deus Ex Machinae Supplies.

I never really like the Stargate TV show spin-offs. The original movie was good though.
Some of you may **** yourself in joy to know that two movie sequels are confirmed.

Wormhole Xtreme would've been a far more worthy sequel than the monstrosity known as Atlantis.

I was a fan back in the day, but they should have cancelled it back when General Hammond left, it was going downhill by that point anyway and would have been a good point to finish on. __________________________________________

We got lucky that is was continued, it was supposed to end seasons ago, back where it all began, on Abydos.
But I don't think they shoulda' cancelled it. Once Jack and Hammond left it became a new show, almost like its own sequel. SG-1 now is as different from the old SG-1 as Atlantis is, so they should have given this new version the full run any program gets IMHO. Actually, I think they should have cancelled SG-1, and done a new program set in the same place with some of the old characters, which soley covered post-Goa'uld events. This is basically what they did, but without renaming the program, so the impression is it needs to end now.
I don't think I'll be upset when it's over though. 10 seasons is a lot of materal, we have plenty to rewatch, hell, TNG only had 7 seasons and it's still being shown today, 12 years after it ended. Also, while most programs only have one finale which is 'The Finale', SG-1 has many, as they weren't sure how long they could keep it going, and so many 'final finale' type episodes were worked in, IIRC just before SG-1 split up there were an absurd number of two parters to accomodate these.
Atlantis isn't as good, but it is still very good, and I'll take it over nothing any day. It's a different program set in the same world, and needs to be recognised as such, it's not really trying to be an exact clone of a previous program set in a new location (See: Voyager ).
I certainly hope there is a third series made, and movies too, but only if they keep the quality up.
I ramble too much when Stargate is brought up ----------
