I had the same issue, running XP Pro, and after checked my firewall I realized it was not on. Turned it on, looked at settings and saw that some instances of EVE on my computer don’t have access to the Internet. I switched everything from “CCP framework” to “eve.exe” to trust level “trusted” and gave them access to the Internet. Disableing firewall wont help, you have to set your settings to allow eve to go online.

I am having the same issue. Status unknown. And when i try to connect i get this message.
Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that you have not established an internet connection, the server isn't running, or the server address or port number was wrong.
Running XPpro SP2 and did everything everyone here suggested.

try this - disable firewall, restart computer, try launching eve again. that may help. If not, then try reinstaling EVE, without running firewall again.

I'm still unable to connect to the game. I'm running Win XP Pro SP2, I have allowed all the EVE files on my firewall, I have tried disabling the firewall. I have un-installed and re-installed EVE from the new build 4557.exe...I've basically done everything but re-install Windows, which ain't gonna happen. I still get nothing, and still can't even post a petition to CCP. As soon as I hear the login woman's voice, the client crashes...again and again and again. I'm bummed

I can see the server status fine, and it keeps updating itself, so obviously I have a connection 'sort of' getting to EVE...but it continues to crash the client as soon as I hit 'connect'....I just re-installed ( for the 2nd time ) the entire new client build, tried installing with firewall off, and again with firewall on, allowing eve.exe and the exefile.exe... Still cannot get past the first sound of her saying "Connecting". Also still un-able to send petition to CCP ( their advice is to send them in-game, which I wouldnt need to do if I could get in-game). Starting to become very upset

Hiyas, just had the same problem. Except I was in game when it kicked off. Sorry no screenies :(.
Basically this is the gist of what happened, I was playing just fine, in the middle of a mission. Trying to loot from a can. Couldnt loot, but was still dealing and recieving damage real time. So i figured lag it would end soon. But nope this came next.
something about my "pocket" being disconnected. Followed by a your connection to the server has been lost.
Now at the Login for Eve I see the server status unknown.
Hope that helps.
Hope my ship is in one piece >.<

Sometimes it works, sometimes its 'unknown' - so I am guessing its server side. Anything from the CCP team yet?

Hi guys, its me CarpeNoctem667, I am your savior. THE STATUS UNKNOWN IS CLIENT SIDE, NOT SERVER. I JUST FIXED MINE. It is firewall settings after all and disabling your firewall will not do n e thing for you. Say you have your firewall allowing things huh, well have you ever thought of the built in firewall in your actual DSL Modem(if you have a modem, if run fiber optics....i dont know for you) BUT if you run a DSL Modem that connects to your computer/router, log into your modem and that firewall inside your modem needs to be disabled, Once thats gone your all good to go. If you have any questions you can call me on Skype at Carpenoctem667, msg me on Yahoo at DocNoc667 or on aim at Echo_Of_Misery. Thank you, and I hope i am some help to someone.

Was in Contact with Carpe... I deinstalled my firewall already earlier, he gave me the hint of clearing ports on my DSLModem/Router; didn¦t work. I turned DSL Modem firewall completely offline and it still didn¦t work.
I¦m just waiting for a possible official statement regarding the patch. Maybe they are working on it already and I don¦t want to spam them with a *cough* petition, that will wait as #5001 in the queque.

I¦m slowly getting mad here ... I¦ve read all the previous posts here, and all i can say is:
I have that problem as well ... status: unknown
I¦m running XP SP2 on this machine ... and i know quite a bit about firewalls, how to set them up/disable/allow them and stuff ... and my router is configured just fine, however, i¦m still getting that sh*t even when allowing EVERYTHING on every instance on this PC :( Carpe¦s tips didn¦t work for me, sorry m8, but thanks for the help.
This is the 12th hour we all have with the servers down now ... Could at least some dev say "hello" in this thread so we know you¦ve at least read this?
I¦m not flaming CCP for anything, they work their asses off, it¦s just ... i want to play ;) Tuesday was enough, and now it¦s another 12 hrs with Servers down/some other issue :(

I still get unknown server. I have disconnected router and gone direct to cable modem. I have disabled firewall. I have deleted cache. All of these factors have been considered.

All of my computers are connected to the same router (built in firewall) and 2 out the three work since the patch. So it is not the router firewall. It is a client side issue.
Two computers working are XPsp2 and Win2k, third not working is XPsp2. Both XP computers worked fine past six months with all patches, but laptop failed now since 4557 update. Prior to update status was "OK" now always "unknown".
Tried all the firewall suggestions on this one PC and no luck. Firtunately not going too crazy as I have 2 other comps to play from, but ironic thing with web site petitions having issues and unable to log into the game can not even send a reliable petiion!
Awaiting official response patiently.

I had this same problem. This is how i got it to work. Running winxp pro I was stalling out at Loading bulk data.
I installed the game on a second partition and the game loaded right up. I kept the original install on the first partition and it doesnt work.
Hope this helps some of you get in.
