How many honest rivaly or grudges are there in eve? I am curious about long standing wars or fights that have had the exact cause lost in time, or lost meaning, such that the fighting is there becasue it has always been.
I know that alot of fights and wars are not personal, such that afterwards oponents might become allies agaist a different foe. But what are the grudge fights in eve? the wars that will never truely end, just pause?

This will degenerate into a flamefast by post 5 i suspect.
Still, most grudges tend to be one sided, whereby the "Losing" side bears a grudge against the winning side.
Can't really think of any mutual rivalries off the top of my head.

The FIX vs SA war's would fit in this thread. It went on for year's, it would slow down, and flame up, and tbh I can't even remember why thing's went south.
And my own personal corp is kinda extracting a grudge...Outbreak/Celest vs BOB....as alot of the Old QDF pilot's that fought BOB when they tryed to move into Querious region are now in Outbreak, and we're now getting our second bout with BOB.

FIX-SA was a grudge match. The exact causes are surrounded by propaganda, self deceptions and lies. It stretches back a good couple of years.
Even though SA is no more, not many people manage to move on to new pastures with a clean mental slate, they take their feelings with them. I'm fairly sure we'll see ex-SA crop up again and again to fight FIX.

Dunno if it still applies for most, but the feelings where there from some of(all??) UFS/CFS long after it disbanded. CELTS had a few frigraids in Querious when we were in FoE I remember.

Man... people just keep beating me to the punch. The grudge towards FIX from the CFS/UFS was basically one sided, FIX didn't really have hard feelings about it.
FA might have been the same way.
Still, over time there have been plenty of ex-CFS that have contributed against FIX through other alliances, and helped instigate things.

No flame intended: I think the reason was that we felt the behaviour from FA/FIX was lacking the respect we wanted. I remember for example the T-PAR deal which made FA rich and gave us only dockingrights as a hot topic in local/forums. We saw FIX as FA's lapdogs(Tornsoul even moderated FIX's forums in the beginning!) There are others that know the story far better than me, and I only know it from our side. As every conflict there are deep roots, and I can only scratch the surface. From all I know (being a subject to our propaganda) CFS could have been the badguy!

yeah, i guess 0utbreak & Celest vs BoB with their resoective histories is a good one. Although i've fought Boldyn & Marko D a lot back in their FIX days, until recently i haven't had the pleasure of fighting the ABP section of 0utbreak, but i have to say Dave Tehsuli's (sp) battle penguin vids were great, and they are really on the ball scrappers.
BoB vs PA was without a doubt a 9 month slug fest of monster proportions. Smelting point that a lot of these days great PvPers came out of regardless which side you were on at the time.
SA vs CA back in teh day. Was a nub back then and lost Moa's hand over fist; was my first taste of PvP.
SA vs FIX certainly became a smelting point for people. Didn't really get involved in that one, but certainly seemd to get people hot under the collar.
BoB vs [G]/D2. I suppose this wasn't as full on as the GNW but certainly had some very enjoyable fights against these guys.
All the ones i've mentioned i remember pretty much because i was part and parcel of getting royally stuck in , so i've probabley missed a lot of the other bitter 15 round slug fests going on in the universe. Then again i feel that i can only rightfully comment on ones i've been part of, or involed closely with due to geographical reasons.

Just to correct that bit: Period Basis Legion had their forums orginally setup by Tornsoul, not FIX. Many people labelled FIX as FA lapdogs, after the war (and FA would have liked to have seen this happen); the same way we were labelled CFS lapdogs when we were simply independant corporations and later the QDF, by CA pilots. Yep... the same way we have been named BoB lapdogs after FA fell and FIX made peace with BoB.
The cycle is continious, because FIX generally doesn't care what people label us. Most of these labels are created by people hostile to FIX, and for the most part it is propaganda that they try to use against us, on the one hand attempting to cause division, anger and strife within; and on the other hand propping up their own with false pretenses that make them feel better about their own actions. Other peoples opinions do matter, but we're not overly bothered with changing external perceptions.
I clearly rememberd it as FIX' forums, but if you say so, I stand corrected.

The QDF forums were originally hosted by Black Avatar, who at the time held the 2 of the stations in Querious, the third being held by my own corp.
The FIX forums were setup by S3VYN, who is in my corp. There were no forums inbetween the existance of these two. The only confusion would likely have come from when Black Avatar left Querious to join FA; if I remember right, the FIX forums came into existance right around the time of the CFS war.

All true. Having been a member of BA Gaming Community for nearly 9 years now, I should also note that Torn Soul has never, to my knowledge as a BA Admin for years, ever registered or been on the BA boards. If he has, he is not on the memberlist.
Yes, S3YVN created the FIX boards and was kind enough to grante me pretty much unlimited access to them during my hiatus from the game. I do not recall any posts by Torn Soul on the FIX boards and checking the memberlist it appears no person with that name has every registered on the FIX boards.
I am told the image is properly sized now. Can you confirm please? |

BNC & Geeklab from the old ORS pre NORAD days. Most old school BNC would probably still drop everything to go lay into Geeklab if we thought they were ever acheiving anything significant.
BNC & KIA has always had a 'fairly friendly' rivalry and we've pretty much always been hostile to each other, despite recruiting half their old school membership no self respecting BNC pilot will ever miss an opportunity to shoot at them.
BoB & PA, needs no explanation really.... but I have to say... WE WERE RIGHT
BoB & G/D2, have a lot of respect for each other but will still be hostile the day the servers get turned off, there was a tremendous clash of styles and philosophies between us following the GNW.
BoB & SA, a fairly new grudge but we won't forget Orc A's treachery for a very very long time.
BoB vs Celes, certainly BNC and RKK will never forgive them for looking the other way at the start of the GNW and not backing RKK against PA (and we were right in the end, the cause would have been just but Celes turned their back on RKK, as a BNC pilot I'll never forgive them for that goodness knows how the old school RKK feel). Nothing like falling out with a mate to create a serious grudge. The opportunity to back RKK came before m0o got involved as well so that old smoke screen still cuts no ice. I wonder how many people know that's the original reason for the rift

One way to filter for those types of grudges is by using forum wars as a type of measurement. So you might want to ask yourself this, which conflicts resulted in never ending forum wars to the point where threads were being hijacked and driven off topic by the bickering parties?

Tyrell vs. Shinra
History goes back to the original Curse Coalition not wanting to join the Curse Alliance and support the pirates that formed the CA which further fueled the SA CA war which fueled (but was not the main reason) for the Xetic CA rivalry.
I'd say CA vs. Tyrell but the CA ceased to exist long ago. I'd say LV vs. Tyrell but over half the LV members have no problems with Tyrell or the CC and LV is pretty young so you can't call it a long standing rivalry so; it boils down to Shinra vs. Tyrell.
Funny thing is there is only a few guys in Shinra we don't like. The rest of them we just like to fight.

FIX vs SA has to have been one of the longest running feuds in EVE, between alliances. It started at the beginnning of Jan 05 and only really ended in May 06. Thats nearly 1yr and 5 months of what was effectively the same conflict, spread over 3 distinct wars. The Stainers fought FIX under several different guises; Stain Empire, The Coalition and then Stain- Alliance.
The reasons for the animosity are too complex to put down in a single post and I would refer the reader to the FIX website for a comprehensive backstory to the conflict. But the broad simplistic reason for most of it is payback.
I would be very interested to know how long the CA vs SA conflict lasted, all in.
The funny thing is that for me the most fun time I've had in EVE has been 'hating' SA.
So here is to SA, and may everybody in EVE find some party they would like to pod and pod over and over again. The game is so much more interesting that way.

Funny how different things look when viewing them from opposite sides of the fence. Let's just say Celes and RKK didn't see eye to eye on this one and it later evolved into shooting when m0o became involved at a time where we might as well have ended up shooting PA given a few more days. So who turn their back on who? Guess it depends on where you look at it from But yeah, the BOB vs CELES stuff is good stuff when it comes to grudges :)

I have to agree but SA vs CA was the most fun in game I ever had. And I have fought everyone and everywhere. BUT SA was so much fun to fight against. I have alot of repect for my killers. :) Did my share of getting killed and killing. DUAL CAV RAVENS For the WIN!. Ah but that was long ago.

The (new) Curse Alliance was formed in september 2003(link to FA's post on the subject), with the agenda being to "fight a war vs SA and kick MASS's ass". (arrrghhh, my thread collection lacks the thread with links to screenshots of first posts on the CA forums ) However, the major entities that banded together in CA had individually been at war with SA (or at least MASS and/or COL) for much longer: * RUS declares war on SA in general and MASS particularly:july 2003 (best post evah!! tbh. Ronin, Leishy etc are kinda missed) * SINC/m0o became a hostile entity to SA in august 2003, after SA pushed RUS to other side of the map where they banded with SINC/m0o. (which indeed was quite fun also, considering RUS had destroyed m0o's first 2 battleships) * Red Corsairs was wardeced by MASS and others sometimes in july/aug as well for their piracy, and in our pursuit for them in Curse, there were quite some troubles with VoTF as well as Shinra.
CA was (more or less) disbanded in januari 2005 (SA/ATUK/XETIC announcement)
So, depending on how you wish to define the start of the war, the SA-CA war lasted 16-18 monts. Unlike most other conflicts, that were more or less constant fighting though... Am I forced to have any regret? I've become the lie, beautiful and free In my righteous own mind I adore and preach the insanity you gave to me |

well it would have to be SA vs FIX, i was unluckyh enough to miss most of the CA war as they disbanded 6 weeks after i joined eve.
I remember i had just joined MASS from SGE when fix first invaded FAT, and the next few weeks were a log of fun for me , and my "grudge" against fix was created when i saw nez and a few fix people flaming my corp on the forums...after bob forced the cease fire, it looked like MASS may of disbanded..the outrage was so strong...but in the letdown that the south vs north war was, i was constantly begging to attack FIX, my first great hope of a rematch came during the Civil war when Fix accepted catch of SE, even though it was a contested region (contray to claims at the time, SA had been in catch several times)but it was not to be, but finaly my prares were answered, FIx set us to KOS soon after the G/IRON/Razor invasion of our space...this lead to 6 months of shooting FIX..even with the bitterness of BOB interfering once again..it was a lot of fun, and my "hatred" of fix (and all over partys involved) are long behind me (well 6 weeks)..but it did make the fights a lot more enjoyable to have such a enemie. but now is a fresh start, all old grudges are over..time to find some new ones :D _____ They were monsters. They rode across the world we knew and brough terror, and death. Where they were, life ceased. They were without mercy. They were without fear - They were MASS |

Nothing, really. The posters rly doesn't know anything.
Like most old-timers, I rather consider the launch of EvE as the 'real launch of beta-test'. You could fight in 0.8 systems etc without anyproblems. Concord was a 'non-entity', sentryguns didn't exist, there was no aggression-timer before your could jump/dock, lag was a major problem and it was easy to create lag on purpose. Needless to say, ppl played by the game mechanics. As one of the leading pirate corps, m0o applied this to the carebears and got a whole lot of attention (which they may or may not have deserved) and of course CCP implemented and improved things in many patches, which of basicly all would have happened with or without m0o.
There are basicly only 2 incidents to talk about: * A dev or gm (I'm not sure) team of 4 flying concord battleships were sent to break up a m0o camp in empire (at a time when players didn't have battleships), because the few groups of players that had the power to break m0o's camp simply had zero interest in doing so - and their camp was "bad for the game". * The podding of a gm by a m0o member. At this time there were no special gm ships, nor any rules set about not killing gms. But the GMs weren't very pleased with it...

edit - i got to write this - End of SAvsCA war...
I was a long term member of CA, and can safely say that the CA-SA war was nothing in terms of rivalry than say, Coalition vs RA. Simply put - the CA-SA war was not (at least, for the last year of the war) designed to destroy either side - it was a war for PVP's sake. Both sides wanted to kill, simply - pure PVP was the single motive of the war.
In reality, large portions of either side even wanted to form a close NAP/even merge the alliances to form the first real EVE Superpower. However, fact was - it didn't happen, as at the time there was nobody capable of providing such an entity with a decent, constant fight.
The end of CA was not brought around by Stain, or anyones wishes to end CA, a fact which is well known - the end of CA was caused by massive internal issues that formed within its leadership.
So, I respectfully disagree that that war can even be classed as a part of this. --------

Nope before that actually. A lot of us "northerners" started off in the south and got displaced. When the xetic civil war happened and ASCN did their formation thing(whch I still have issues with) a lot of us moved north.
D2 is a combination of G and and other northern pilots, Trust which has a lot of the old xtech pilots and NBSI merged in later which had a lot of ex xetic pilots and a history with ASCN. The G guys have their own history with ASCN and the Trust group and NBSI group all had ex xetic pilots with reasons to be unfriendly to ASCN. I'd go on but this thread has been friendly so far.

Cowboy and Gyrn can tell you what happened exactly. Basicly it was due to SA not advising their newer corps/members who to shoot and who not to shoot. Gyrn and Cowboy were involved in the first of a few incidents, their Assaultships were popped and CB lost his pod while they had positive standings to eachother. CELES asked for refunding, but I guess SAs leadership didn't think it was urgent. While Gyrn was refunded by a corp that later became FIX, Cowboy didn't get anything. CELES got a bit ruppy and set a deadline, SA was set to -10. On the same day Cowboy, I believe, was refunded, too.
They went back to neutral and CELES advised SA to not shoot neutrals in unclaimed space, which was the Catch pipe including HED-GP. They refused and the last incident in HED let CELES set SA back to -10. While both entitys were with medium sized gangs in HED, still on friendly terms, an ATUK Scorp enters local. The Scorp warps to the Keberz gate at 15km where it is emidiatly distroyed by the CELES forces. Aery Sun (sp?) then decides to attack the roughly smaller CELES gang. Surprised by the reaction of SA, CELES losses nearly the whole gang. For whose who don't know: ATUK and SA have been close allies since ATUK left CA (some ex-ATUK correct me if I'm wrong), while CELES and ATUK were arch-enemys since ATUK still were a medium sized mining corp.
Trigger shows a last pittyfull attempt to solve this when he convoes Darth the same night. He ended the chat with the words "then **** off".
I think it's been 2 years since that one started. Most people don't know how it started not, because it's been so long, but because no one realy knew enough about it in first place, appart from some SA leaders I doubt anyone in SA knew what happened and the explanations of some CELES members on the forum were always promptly answered with 1 page of flames. I didn't count but at least 5 threads were created about this, every one of them was closed after about 10 pages due to excessive smacking and flaming mainly by people who had oppinions, no real insight. It was funny and rediculous at the same time, but it was great. Don't speak english, just F5, F5, F5... |

I know that alot of fights and wars are not personal, such that afterwards oponents might become allies agaist a different foe. But what are the grudge fights in eve? the wars that will never truely end, just pause?

Nail on head in terms of the SA conflict.
As for other rivalries, I like the old CELES vs BoB one. I was there the day the RKK boards (in the friends area) lit up like christmas tree in flames. The falling out was a matter of point of view. Many in CELES wanted to fight alongside RKK but not the expense of flying with m0o. Things were said out both sides which destroyed the friendship.
And CELES vs. ATUK/Dice. All can say is wow. I still harbor a deep dislike for them and would not fly along side 95% of them if I was called to do so. I know they prob feel the same of me, which is fine But I must admit Loxy is a cuddly bear. It has to be one of the best feuds out there.
