Depends on the petition type, exploit petitions and stuck petitions are answered very swiftly but petitions in the other section can take a while as they are lower priorities, wouldn't be able to give you any sort of time frame tho. ---

Certain things are VERY big on the 'no-no' list, and that is probably pretty close to the top in just about every MMO out there. That type of activity is one that can get you banned pretty quickly, and CCP has been very open that they frown very much on isk selling. They DO NOT like people doing it, and people have gone to REAL LIFE JAIL for that kind of thing in other MMO's.
My guess is that he will be denied as quickly as an 8 year old trying to buy drugs from a cop.

I agree with you 100% if he was tring to sell something for real money but can a simple question get you banned from eve? Best part is he doesn't even know if that is the reason because he got no explanation at all about the ban.no email or anything but thats the only thing he can think of since it happened 1 min after he asked the question in trade chat.If you wanna warn someone thats fine even if he did ask a stupid question but give the guy a break,he only been playing for 10 days.

Edited by: Siege on 31/08/2006 03:13:08 They do have certain 'filters' in the chats, I have watched another player get muted automatically when it happened. He said a quite nasty racist word, and couldn't use any in-game chats for I think 12 hours. It's possible the software just saw the magic words, and acted without human input.
and yes, I know that all those stories about jail time are probably fake, but it never hurts to put a little fear into those who want to farm and sell. They annoy me. Though I have seen a couple new articles that claim it has happened. Here is one that I did find link

Uh-huh. Thanks for actually READING the article, Siege. Hacking. He was jailed for Hacking.
Selling Eve ISK is not illegal. Just against the EULA.

I DID say other mmo's, I didnt say eve. And a bot-hack to me is pretty darn close to a macro-farming program. But hey, if you want to defend isk sellers and try to justify what they do, it's no skin off my back.

No, hacking other peoples PC's is a LITTLE different to running a program on your own.
And no, YOU'RE defending the macroers by trying to inhibit rational discussion against them with fear, uncertaincy and doubt, behind which they can hide their actions. Clear lines of "this is permissable", and "this is not" can be drawn. Obscurity is what the macro writers WANT.
There is also no evidence of huge macro issues in Eve.

And you're going off on some tangent because you hate CCP, I try to defend some of their actions that you don't like, so everything I say is automatically open to attack because I represent an alternate viewpoint from yours. You took a minor closing statement, and made it the whole basis of your arguement. Ok, I was probably wrong on that one piece, but it doesn't change the original question of this post.
The whole point that I was trying to make here is that CCP seriously dislikes the entire concept of selling ISK, as do all MMO companies. Intent in some cases is irrelevent and CCP may not even review the petition in this case if they think the guy might be doing it.

If he was tring to sell it then yes good for him but asking a question is no reason for a ban in any MMO.

Nope, straight line. You're trying to "defend" a situation you know little to nothing about by causing fear, uncertaincy and doubt, sure. By obscurity. What you said was open to attack because it was murky and incorrect. Period.
"The whole point that I was trying to make here is that CCP seriously dislikes the entire concept of selling ISK, as do all MMO companies. "
LOL! There are entire companies built arround value-added services for MMO's, and plenty of others who permit real-money trade. Second Life, Ultima Online, Puzzel Pirates... you REALLY need to do the research before you make these statements.
CCP? They've just crushed the market with gametime code sales. A BRILLIANT move.

Your friend lied to you. Accounts get banned after investigation, which would take longer than two minutes. And the chances are that he sold isk for cash then asked if it was okay to do so afterward.

A friend got his 5 accounts banned, with no explaination. We petitioned the GM's as he got no explaination or anything. They replied to us they would look into the matter. Within 15mins he was unbanned (on all 5 accounts) and again, no explaination as to why.
Ill give you his name privately if you wish to double check my story.

I always enjoy these types of threads because normally they read something like this:
"I was sitting with my character chatting with friends about how we could help feed the starving children of the world. In between this I was giving gear to newbies to help them get acclimated to the game when a GM broke into the chat and made a very rude comment which I took offense to and asked him to stop, he flew into a rage and banned my account for no reason.
Also, a tiny bit of that money I gave to a newbie account might have been from a GTC scam but I had no idea, and I wasn't controlling that newbie character it just had the same IP because I'm behind a college firewall."

At this point we would be happy just to get an explanation of why he was banned. He is a sitting duck not knowing why he was banned ,even though it is pretty obvious that it happened right after he asked that question. No matter what was the reason it would be nice to have CCP atleast look at the ban and tell him why he was banned or reinstate him since this was probably a mistake. His character's name is starjunkie. Please CCP just take a quick look at this and let him know whats going on. Thank you

This article is talking about a "bot-hack". Judging by the description given in the text, its some kind of weird pvp bot that is somehow stronger then its supposed to be (how on earth does that work with a server architecture? i just tell the server i have 6*10^23 Hitpoints and it works?) and the victims are not able to log in again. Am i the only one who thinks that doesnt make sense?
Anyway, i dont know of any other case where RMT has lead to arrests or lawsuits, and more important, i dont know a single law prohibiting it.
I personally think its more likely that RMT will be regulated by laws (bad for pirates / scammers / t2 BPO owners) then outlawed.
As for the topic - talking about selling ISK will not get you banned. At least not in 100% of the cases, that i know for sure.

We'll it's vbeen 4 days now and counting that my buddy is still waiting to find out if he will ever get to play eve again. He got a msg 2 days ago from a GM that stated he/she was gonna escalate the petion to higher GM's.He has not heard anything since. I just don't get it.This was obviously either a mistake or a GM that was trigger happy and yet the GM who responded has to go to higher ranks with it and two days later he still has no email explaining why they banned him. I myself have stopped playing untill i see the outcome of this because to tell you the truth,I'm afraid to spend more quality time into this game and worry that one day i may say something wrong and just loose my account without warning or explaination like my buddy starjunkie. Four days is already to long for this ban so please CCP i will ask again,Please please take a look at his petition.

Come on. If you have to be honest. No one in any western country has gone to jail for selling game currency.
Some one who went to jail may have solfd currency - but that wasnt the reason for jail time.
Be honest.
Wherever you went - here you are.

That's true. They'll ban you from playing their game. I don't think they will ask the local authorities to file an extradition warrant with your home country's law enforcement so you can be brought back to Iceland to face criminal justice for breaking an in-house rule. ;)
Originally by: Siege and people have gone to REAL LIFE JAIL for that kind of thing in other MMO's.
I was quite unable to find any reference to this on the web (Though I did find a bunch of articles about an interesting civil suit against NCSoft in Korea, where players obtained cash compensation from NCSoft for failing to properly protect their virtual assets from hackers, and some journalistic speculation as to whether the legal system might in future take an interest in the ebb and flow of virtual assets.)
Err anyway, so who went to REAL LIFE JAIL for selling online currency? Google doesn't seem to know :p

Actually, a "bot-hack" is the same type of program that a "macro miner" in EVE is. I've played Lineage II before, and I used to hunt down bots every week(they usually dropped the best equipment). If you watch them long enough, you can time their movements exactly, and note the exact moment when they will use a healing spell/potion when they are getting attacked.

Like stated above, the botting program just automates the characters actions, much like a macro miner in EVE.

Since when has endoursing cheating been a brilliant move to solve the problem...
CCP ban ebay/isk sales/buys per the eula on matter of principles on the effect it has within the game and it's players... to stop them being cheated.. per say.
